People say on top of the clouds. I was there ! And this experience will be a lifetime. Nothing beats the feeling to see the shining peaks and clouds beneath you

We took Gondola cable car up to phase 1. next journey to phase 2 was under maintenance. But looking at the peak and nice weather we decided to climb.
On our way we found some local Kashmiri guys who were studying in college. They were trekking as well. They told me all the stories about Afarwat Peak . It was such a refreshing experience to listen to real Kashmiri’s rather than those leeches tour guides.
We saw cloud formation and saw the weather fluctuating from about to rain and sunny in a giffy.
Warning : During rain the water comes down the slope in great force
We climbed up till phase 2 and I was done after that . They continued their journey up .
Very good human beings
Beware of the guides and taxi service , it is not at all required in my opinion

One can reach the Apharwat Peak if they have Phase 2 tickets of Gulmarg Gondola. We went there in the beginning of July and found enough snow over there. If possible try to use crampons in shoes in the snow to have a proper grip. Found some people renting snow boots but did not see anyone carrying gaiters or crampons with them which I felt was necessary. The place was extremely crowded but you can easily grab a quiet corner to enjoy the mesmerizing views all by yourself. There will be local guys trying to convince us to try sledging. We thought of trying but these people made us wait so much that we had to cancel in the end. Bargain very strongly over here if you want to try out the snow activities. Overall I felt the place is nice o enjoy the snow even in summer times.

This is the 2nd phase of the Gondola ride and an absolute must visit. There is a drastic difference between the views on 1st phase Vs 2nd phase.
We were lucky enough to get fresh snow fall on 30th May and the quality of the snow is worth appreciating- each snowflake is in perfect shape and one can see it through naked eyes, however capturing in camera is very tough
There are snow sports like skiing and sledging - which is quite expensive and honestly not worth the price. They take you to LOC but that wasn’t visible due to snow fall.
Just ensure you get tickets to phase 2 if you are in Gulmarg

Magnificent snow clad mountains. Worth the toil to reach there after long queues for Gondola. A must visit in Gulmarg and Kashmir. One can enjoy skiing and sledging or just play in snow. Snow was there even in May end. Need to negotiate hard for the activities as they are exorbitantly priced.

Apharwat peak is situated at a height of 4390 m in Gulmarg . I traveled there with my wife and 11 year twin daughters on 28th March. We took the Gondola (cable ride) of both phase 1 and phase 2. The summit was fully covered with fresh snows and was less crowded compared to phase 1 of Kungdoor. We could see the Loc located few km away. It was a sunny morning and there were some people skiing too. We could also see the other peaks around . The view around is panoramic. My wife and I have previously traveled to Mount Titlis 3238 m in Switzerland . This peak is way higher

A visit to Gulmarg without taking the Gondola up to Phase 2 … Apharwat is criminal!
At 14,000 ft, the views are stunning and on a clear day, one can see Nanga Parbat too.
Be careful because of the altitude, and do not exert, but an absolute must visit!
In winters it’s even more spectacular!!

We went there on 14th Feb 2023 using the Phase 2 Gondola Ride in Gulmarg. The Ticket cost was around 2850 for 3 of us and it was totally worth it. The view from the Top was mesmerising. You cant stay there for long as its too cold and low on oxygen but we spent a very good time there
As it was too cold, the surface was covered with Ice and was slippery. It was too risky to walk and we slipped multiple times, so be careful.
But Apharwat Peak is something you cannot miss if you are visiting Kashmir.

Gulmerg is very beautiful hill Station in Kashmir. In winter is covered by Snow. Gondola ride is very exciting experience. Maharaja palace, Shiva temple,Golf course, Snow adventure games, church etc many more.... are very beautiful.
Bota Pathri (Gulmerg wildlife sanctuary) is situated about 12 KM from Gulmerg is also very beautiful.
In summer season strawberry 🍓 valley may be memorable destination.

I don't think safety wise there will be any issue. But be ready to face extreme cold and snowfall.

You will get down in 2nd phase of gondola ride, which is the place you asked about. See weather updates from Google maps to know more on weather.
What would it be like in second half of July ? I'll be there around 20th July.

It should still be very scenic - and if the Phase 2 of the Gondola ride is on, you must definitely do it

Hi! Here's my view - Stay at Srinagar. Decide once you land after checking locally whether it is still snowing in Gulmarg (or if the snow hasnt melted yet) We were there last week and it was snowing. You can then do both - do a day trip to Gulmarg ( 65 kms each way from Srinagar) and Pahalgam (135 km each way) - Another tip. Choose any day other than Sunday or Wednesday to do the Srinagar - Pahalgam day trip. These are days in the week when the Army Convoys pass, when they do - the traffic is stopped. We took 6 hours for a 2.5 hour trip from Pahalgam to Srinagar because of convoy passing halts about five times on the route.
The stays in Gulmarg & Pahalgam cost as much as staing in a five star in Srinagar (and do not deliver on value for money) - so you are better off staying in Srinagar all through and doing day trips to Gulmarg/Sonmarg/Pahalgam etc
Have a fun time

Looks difficult. If you are lucky, very little at the upper most level. But you will get awesome view of green valley and snow peaks for sure.
