I would like to make a few points regarding your review. We are extremely dog friendly and always allocate the back bar for those who wish to dine with their dogs. As the front bar is small we have always kept it for those wishing to have a drink before or after dinner and for the local population of the village to come and have a drink. The purpose of this is to maintain the fact that the Royakl Oak is still the village pub, as too many places have been completely turned over to food and the pub is no longer a centre of village life. The other restaurants are for those without dogs, as not all customers are happy to have a dog in the dining room. Dogs are very welcome to stay in the bedrooms during dinner, and accompany their owners in the front bar, before and after.
We serve food from 12 noon to 2pm and close on weekdays at 2.30pm as do most establishments at this time of year. We are open all day on Saturday and Sunday and during the summer holidays. There are tea and coffee making facilities in all rooms and a residents lounge available for those who do not wish to stay in the room.
We have different sizes of rooms, reflected in the price, and although some are small, we are not able to change this due to the age of the building and the covenants on it. We find that the majority of guests are out for most of the day and enjy the evening either in the bar or restaurant.
I have taken action on the cleaning front by employing a new housekeeper and apologise if this was not up to scratch. There is no excuse there.

Thank you for your comments which have certainly been taken on board. As addressed in a previous reply I have replaced my housekeeper and apologise that the standard of cleanliness was not up to scratch. I was extremely disappointed to view your comments on our waitress and will try to find out more on this matter. We pride ourselves on friendly servive which is reflected on many of the comments that we receive. As far as the chef's comments re poached eggs, I will also look into this and hope that it was taken out of context and that the chef was joking with the waitress as they are always happy to cook what is ordered.
I would like to point out that all evening main courses come with either vegetables and new potatoes, chips or salad and these are all included in the price of the main course. The reason that we have a separate pricing policy on the menu is if a customer requires a second portion. I accept that this may not have been made clear and will change this when the next menu is printed.
