“Stylish, Comfortable Home In Paradise!”

We rented the Guest House for 2.5 weeks in Nov/Dec 2011. From the first helpful email that Alice sent me following my enquiry we were confident that Nosara would be a great place for a relaxing holiday and it certainly was. Alice and Mike were so welcoming and very kind to us during our stay. The guest house is set in beautiful tropical gardens, the house is very stylish, comfortable and spacious with a huge terrace. The house has it's own entrance separate from the main house. The shared pool separates the two houses. Beautifully presented, we found it equipped with everything we needed. We loved watching the iguanas and gorrobos in the garden, also humming birds and butterflies. We saw howler monkeys locally but sadly none in the garden, we gather they come at certain times depending what is growing at the time. We also loved hearing the sounds of the jungle at night. The gardener and the cleaner visit a few times a week so there are plenty of opportunities to practice your Spanish!

The house is situated in Guiones, a lovely laid back place with a friendly, village like atmosphere. Almost everybody speaks, even on the beach. The roads are all dirt tracks, no tarmac for miles. All the hotels and restaurants are set back in the trees with nothing near the shoreline which is backed by trees. The stunning beach is about three minutes walk from the house. Great for surfing. You can also walk along the beach to Pelada, a calmer, smaller cove, absolutely delightful. Guiones has a mixed expat population, Americans and Europeans. Many of the holidaymakers come here for surfing and there are many surf schools. Guiones village is about 8 minutes walk and has a small supermarket, a few souvenir shops, a bank and ATM, a few cafes and restaurants and not a lot else. There'a a very good bakery which sells lovely bread, cakes and pastries.

At first it seems extremely quiet at night but there are some good live music venues and restaurants. They just aren't immediately obvious. Everything starts early and winds up by about 10pm, mainly due to the time zone, sunrise at about 5am and sunset about 5.20pm. You will need torches (provided) and be happy to walk along dark tracks to the best places (if you don't have a car) but it all seems quite safe. The Gilded Iguana and Kayasol had good music and there is a new club type place next to Kayasol with music too. Best for food is Casa Romantica, just superb. Beach Dog Cafe food looked good too but we didn't get a chance to try it. Watch the prices. We found restaurants were pretty much English pub prices with main courses at around £8 to £10 (12 to 15 US Dollars) but be aware that some places include 13% tax and/or 10% service charge on the menu and some don't but all put it on the bill so you can get 23% on the menu prices. Read the small print. Supermarkets seemed very expensive coming from the UK. If you have a car it is cheaper away from Guiones.
There are some lovely places in the area to attend yoga classes.

There are local buses on the top road to but not that frequent. Google a timetable. Really to get the best from this area you need a 4x4 or at least a quad. Nosara village (4 miles) is a must see, so full of character with the landing strip at the end of the high street. There is a late night dance club here. Great cheap food at the Soda Cafe by the bus stop and Rancho Tico. Also two large supermarkets.

Further afield don't miss the sunset at Largarta Lodge. We've travelled a lot and rate the view from here as THE best we've seen in the world. There is also a nature trail here, best early morning. Nosara River Tours run by a lovely German couple is highly recommended. Other than that, just drive up the coast road and beach hop. There are miles of beautiful deserted beaches. Playa Juanquillo is a highlight. Ostional for the turtles, check with locals for best times. There is also a monkey sanctuary nearby which is quite pricey but it goes to a good cause and we gather it is a great experience.

If you need a driver we highly recommend Abel. www.nosara.com/nosara_transportation.htm#vino He got us to San Jose and back.

We would thoroughly recommend staying in Nosara and at Luna-de-Papel. We had a fantastic time and enjoyed perfect weather. We would love to return soon.
