Dear Mr. Lamadieu,

I stayed at Beach House Manafaru during the last days of April. Although I filled the customer questionarie that was in my room with some complaints, also wrote that I had some more that were not put in because of the lack of space.
Now that I am back home I think it is the right time to explain all the things that I did not like at Manafaru, that are the reason why I consider that Manafaru did not offer what I was expecting as a customer.

I consider that Manafaru does not offer what the customer expects when chooses this resort, an expensive and five stars resort. I have been in many resorts and the majority of luxury in Maldives and believe that I know about what I speak.
There are many things that can be changed, and others that cannot but my opinion is that you can improve a lot your customer's perception of the resort if you make some changes. Some things are small details and others not, but I consider opportunely to say all:

ISLAND AND VILLAS

-I can´t understand why you say that Manafaru has a nice reef when this is not true. Almost everything is dead or about to die, and it is not right to say that you have an in-house reef. It would be better if you say that it has no reef so you don't confuse the customer.
-Lots of bugs (insects): mosquitos, beetles, slugs and.... COCKROACHES!!! the worst ones!!! There were many of them in my beach villa suite, almost everywhere: On the stones around the jacuzzi, on top of the minibar and the TV furniture... I understand that there have to be insects in a Maldivian island, but this seems more like a plague (which is not acceptable) and it becomes worse with the presence of cockroaches. I almost saw one of them in the golf cart that is used to move around the island.
-The rocks that are in front of the nr. 311 and 312 bungalows are dangerous, specially if you have children, and they are not beautiful so I cannot understand why did you build there.
- The shop does not offer enough product, and some key things (like Manafaru island postcards and souvenirs) are missing.
-There are many things that are almost impossible to change: lots of rocks around the island and the strong current... I was surprised when I saw the flags (that I had never seen before in Maldives), but one thing is true : with that current it has to be mandatory to warn the customers.
-There are faulty items in the bungalow. I stayed in two different beach suites and none of them had the jacuzzi working properly, the blind strings broke down, the lights at the swimming pool were not working, some furniture was splintered and damaged, the pillows at the deckchairs and the porch sofa are all dirty.
- there are black stains all around the villa's floor. They look like grease, but I know that it's the door's paint that falls down. The floor is very slippery when wet.
- The swimming pool's engine placed under the table beside the deckchairs is quite noisy. It is extremely annoying at night. That place is not the right one to install an engine.
-Some of the wooden floor at the porch is broken, and my daughter had her foot injured while stepping on it. There was even a nail there!!! (suite 301)
-When it rains, water passes under the porch window into the bathroom, making big puddles. They are also made in the villa's front door.
-The "don't disturb" signal was missing in one of the villas. The spa menu and price list was also missing, and some other things were also missing.
-The WC area... looks like a shop window. Watching people at the swimming pool (and therefore having them watching you at the WC) and it is uncomfortable and inappropiate. It would be much easier to put a smoked glass like the one at the shower. There are only 12 suites, so I think you must fix this urgently.
-The villas are placed inland too far from the beach and the paths to get to the beach are full of soil mixed with sand, when you get to the villa your feet are all black.
-In the beach acces of the villa 301 there are also some roots which stick out of the sand. You can get tangled with them and fall down and damage yourself. I say that by experience.
-There is incense In some suite villas, but not in some others. Why?
-I find it annoying to use the headboard as a desk in the suite villas. You can be working and bother the person who sleeps.
- Why don't you offer sanitary bags in the lavatory? I couldn't get them even asking for them.
-In the area of the water villas the walkways are too high, this way it is impossible to walk without having to jump them.
-There are no pots of water at the beginning of the walkway of the water villas. The wood burns a lot so it would not be hard work to put them and the guests would be able to wash the feet before coming back through the wooden way to their water villa.
- Some Water villas are too close to the beach,( with the subsequent lack of privacy for everyone.
-There is a nylon string on the walkway sides of the main jetty that maybe was placed there with the purpose of getting the birds away of the walkway. The fact is that the birds stay on it and the whole walkway is quite dirty for that reason.
-There are coral and stone all around the beach. I almost saw some bottles and even broken glass! You should take car of this and keep the beach more clean.
-There is plenty of vegetation inland, which is nice, but you have to keep it clean. It is dry and unclean, and it looks like you don't take care of it.
- Puddles as big as swimming pools are formed all around the paths of the island when it rains.
- There is lack of signals helping the guests to get to the restaurants, reception and so on... Once you get familiar with the island you won't need them, but they are very neccesary until that moment, specially at night because the island has not enough lights.
-The power generator is placed by the tennis court, and it is clearly audible from some villas (nr. 311 for example). There are moments when it is even louder (I suppose that this is because the door that gives access to the engine has been left opened).
-Some golf carts are driven way too fast around the island. There are some drivers that don't slow down and stop when they see a guest, and continue driving like they had not seen anybody.I travel with my small daughter, look at these details.
It also isn't normal to hear the drivers joking with their walkie-talkies while taking the guests to some point of the island with the carts. And the last thing regarding this item: it is not acceptable to wait 20 minutes for a golf cart to take you to any place around the island.
- The prices for the excursions are expensive. Very expensive.
-¿Where is the guest book?

SERVICE AND RESTAURANTS

- I cannot understand the fact that the internet wifi connection is not free for the guests. This is important for some customers, and I was very upset because of this. When I arrived to the resort, I was told that the price was 10$ per hour. Later, it was 5$. Then I bought 4 hours and nobody told me that I could get 24h only for 5$ more. The login and password that they gave me to connect did not work, and you have to call or go to the reception to ask for another one, which is a complete chaos!
-You are asked about the juice you prefer for breakfast, and you get it served, but no one asks if you want some more once you have finished it. You have to ask for it or you won't get any more juice and your cup will be retired by the staff. The worst service I got was at the Four Corners restaurant (although not all the staff there gave a bad service to us).
-The room service did not work as I expected. They mistook when they brought the dishes, forgot somethings and took a long time to bring them. When I ask for ice-cream it arrives already melted. The fish that we asked for was not enough cooked. Bad quality-price.
- I can't understand why the staff has to pass through the villa when they are called to take away the empty dishes. The dinner is served outside, so I think it would be better if they get there by the exterior path instead of walking through the villa
- The food quality and presentation did not match what I was expecting from a resort with a five-star category.
-At the breakfast buffet, they take a lot of time to replace the food which has run out and for example in the case of yoghourts they do not replace the flavours until the bol is empty. There was only one yoghourt left, but I wanted another flavour for my daughter and the waiter told me to get it from the bol and I told him that the flavour I wanted had run out so he told me to wait until the yoghourts had been replaced! Was it such a hard work to bring a yoghourt for my 3 year old daughter??
-In the egg station, every ingredient has its own bol and small spoon. I wonder why the cook takes them with his fingers. Why does the cook have to pick them by using his fingers?
- There are sheets with news from many countries at the Four Corners restaurant. If you know that spanish people are your guests, why don't you include a spanish translation? It would be very nice (Spain exists, not only Russia, UK and so on...).
-Once I phoned to the villa host extension to ask for my villa host and I am still waiting for him!
-Is the work of the villa host in this hotel only to bring you some fruit in the mornings and ask you where do yo want to have dinner if you meet him? Nothing else?
- The service staff. Some waiters are very kind, but some others do not even look at your face. ¡¡¡I have seen with my own eyes a barman make a cocktail, serve it and then drink part of it directly from the cocktail shaker!!!
- If it starts raining while you are at the restaurants or at the swimming pool you'll get wet almost for sure, because there are no umbrellas for the guests.
-There is lack of staff in some of the bars, too many people get together at the same time
-Drinks should not be allowed inside the swimming pool as well as people having a bath and making noise at night.
-The spa was one of the most disappointing things to me. The massages and treatments are too expensive in relation to what they include. The massage quality is just average-low, attention and care given to the guest is too poor and, even the spa facilities are ok, all the rest is not. Some girls at the spa are kind, but some others seem angry. I missed a shop at the spa offering your own products or some other recognised brand ones.

- I cannot understand why you have a machine working at the garden just by the Spa making loud noise.. at 4pm!!! You'd have to do that before the spa opens or after its closing time. It's quite upsetting to hear that loud noise while you are being given a massage.
-There are few amenities and details with guests. I missed too much details that I can find in another luxury resorts in Maldives.

I think the main complaints have been written in this email.
Last, I have to say that the facilities were correct and that I was greatly surprised with the kid's club. It is very well equipped, is very nice and the staff there is very kind. No doubt it's one of the best things at the resort. It is a pity that its access is a bit hidden in the island paths. Another access placed near the outdoor game zone at the path that takes you from the suites to the spa is highly needed.
I was very disappointed with my stay at the island because I was expecting much more than I got. Personally, I think that you have to improve (a lot) the service given to the guest. It is one of the main things that a resort of your category has to offer. If you feel that the staff is close to you and they are kind are surprise you with that "little details" that make the difference, you will easily have a better overall impression from the resort. I attach you the photos of some of my complaints.
I hope this email will help you in any way and, if possible, will give you hints to change some of the things that I found disappointing. This is essential if you really want to see that Manafaru becomes a luxury resort at the Maldives.
