Fantastic time on Carino
feb. de 2021
What a fantastic day out sailing in the Bay of Islands. Our family of five - three daughters 9, 7, 7 all thoroughly enjoyed our time with Captain Vanessa and Wayne on Carino. We were hoping to see dolphins (but not expecting to) but what a show we got on our return sail to Paihia when a pod of bottle nose dolphins entertained us with their top notch show of leaps and flips. Vanessa and Wayne are super knowledgeable and respectful of the local wildlife, especially the dolphins, and genuinely care about protecting their ocean habitat. Skip the hole in the rock and the super fast boats and jump on board the Carino.

Wonderful day on the water
feb. de 2021
An absolutely stunning day on the water. Beautiful blue skies and not a cloud to be seen. My wife and I were 2 of the 4 passengers. The passion and knowledge of marine creatures that Captain Vanessa and crewman Wayne displayed was wonderful. The catamaran was a great platform to watch the wildlife. Sitting on the trampolines at the bow was the place to be.

We saw Blue Penguins, Dolphins (with 7 week old calf), Gannets, Fairy Terns, Buller's Shearwater, Cormorant, Mako Shark and Hammer Head Shark during the cruise. Had a visit to Moturua Island and walked the track to the top of the hill where Haikai Pa used to stand. This has an old WWII lookout post at the top. Had a nice BBQ lunch (they do a vegetarian option) and sampled a glass of Sauvignon Blanc.

This is a brilliant way to spend approximately 6.5 hours cruising the Bay of Islands.

Would recommend this to anyone who enjoys seeing wildlife in its natural habitat. We will do this again when we return to Paihia.

Dear nzrhino It sounds like the Bay of Islands, put it on for you! It is such a special place, we love it. Our trampolines a are very popular spot to watch the bay pass by, so relaxing and great for viewing our wildlife. Your wildlife count is amazing, all that data collected on your day, will go to DOC, to help manage our marine environment better. Thank you for sailing with us and helping to protect the future of marine wildlife in the Bay of Islands. Hope to see you again soon Regards

Chill Day Out
nov. de 2020
I was looking for a trip which was different to the standard ones offered in the area, and this definitely did not disappoint! It had the perfect balance of exploring and relaxing. The passion of the owners for the wildlife and area was clear, we were lucky enough to see a large pod of dolphins and on our own, had a great island to ourselves and a bbq with snorkelling to top it off. Plenty of chill time on the catamaran with bean bags etc to soak up the sun. The small groups also a massive plus. Would 100% recommend and do it again.

Top shelf day
My husband and I did this trip yesterday and I cannot stop raving about it. Excellent vessel, friendly and knowledgeable crew, beautiful scenery and of course the stunning wildlife. We picked a perfect day to cruise with blue skies and not much wind. We spent the whole trip out on the trampoline enjoying the sparkling blue green water. We saw little blue penguins, a variety of other sea birds and we were so so lucky to spend some time with the bottle nose dolphin pod. Complete with two calves! It was very special. Lunch is simple but sufficient and we enjoyed a beverage from the cash bar. Definitely recommend to all.

Beautiful relaxing day
dic. de 2020 • Parejas
We had a lovely day sailing around the Bay of Islands. Just 4 passengers and 3 crew meant we had plenty of opportunity to chat to the crew and learn about the wildlife and local area. Unfortunately we didn't see any marine mammals, but we sailed right into the midst of gannetts diving for fish which was amazing. We also spotted blue penguins throughout the day and lots of other sea birds. Captain Vanessa found us an empty bay near Urepukapuka island for a swim, short walk and snorkel whilst they cooked our kiwi bbq. 10/10 would recommend and wouldn't hesitate to book again!

Dear G7844U Thank you for taking the time to review our cruise. Sorry the dolphins did not show for you, but please understand they are wild animals and sometimes are just not in the Bay of Islands. Watching our gannets diving for food is such a cool experience, we get close enough you feel part of the action. Thank you for your recommendation and hope to see you again soon. regards

Most Excellent Day
dic. de 2020
A very entertaining and relaxing day. A gift for my partner from his adult children. There were 5 of us and we all had a wonderful time. Our Captain and Crew were so helpful and very knowlegable - we were welcomed aboard, safety checks explained and completed and we were off. We were provided with morning tea, a kiwi bbq lunch and a chocolate fish. The scenery was breath taking. We saw penguins, a variety of different sea birds. Stopped at an island, went for a walk, swimming and snorkelling - highly recommend.

Amazing

I cannot stress enough how truly wonderful this experience was. My wife and I are possitively buzzing, hours after our trip. First of all, upon boarding the vessel, we are welcomed by our Captain Vanessa and by Bruce and Wayne. That's right, Bruce Wayne was on the Catamaran. I am instantly at ease. They were so welcoming that we felt like VIPs.

My wife and myself were the only passengers that morning so we thought perhaps it would be quiet and boring but to our pleasant surprise Vanessa and Wayne took turns informing us about the area and telling us stories that kept us entertained.

We had a chance to explore and island with beautiful flora and fauna, we got to swim in a secluded calm beach and we were served classic kiwi BBQ favourites.

The highlight of the trip came next. Just as we were losing hope of seeing marine mammals a pod of bottlenosed dolphins emerged from the waters to give us a wonderful aquatic show to rival seaworld. Vanessa made it clear that these were wild dolphins and as such we weren't allowed to actively search for them but through their communication, the captain was able to share with us this amazing view. In fact, the Dolphins stayed with us for so long, the crew had to switch off the engine so they would get bored a d leave.

All in all it was a wonderful experience made extra special by the genuine good nature of Vanessa, Wayne and Bruce. We would be fools to not avail of their service again should we find ourselves in the area again in the future. I cannot say more wonderful things about you guys. This was an awesome day, thank you!

Dear Jovanig772 Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are so happy that you had a wonderful day with us. We love sharing the Bay of Islands with our guests and of course the wild dolphins. Our DOC permit allows us to interact and share our knowledge of these amazing wild dolphins. We are very respectful of them, in the way we approach and view them. We don't always get to find and view them, but your day sounds extra special. Hope to see you again one day. regards

An awesome experience
We have done a variety of excursions in the Bay of Islands over the years and for me this one comes out as my top choice of the lot. For a number of reasons. It is a family business. Vanessa and Bruce really look after you. They are very professional and they take the time to interact personally with you and provide you with great information about the area and the wildlife of which they are passionate about. They also care about the wildlife and while it is a commercial operation they take great care not to stress out the animals and operate their tour with considered animal welfare in mind. They also look after their human charges as well as they care for the wildlife.

Visiting the natural environment is always going to be a roulette for what you are likely to see. Just enjoy the experience of whatever comes along. We were fortunate enough to see little blue penguins and Gannets afloat.

A nice thing about the Corina under sail rather than power is that you can drift in reasonably close to some of the birds without stressing or spooking them. It can be a twitcher’s paradise: Gannets plummeting into the ocean is a spectacular sight. We also saw some land based birds on an Island: Tui, Saddleback, a dotterel and a Moa. No, sorry just kidding about the Moa. Sadly the last Moa pointed its toes skyward several centuries ago. But the bird life on the Islands that are the control of the Department of Conservation are starting to thrive again.

And of course there are our aquatic cousins; today we saw bottle nose dolphins at close quarters. Again respecting them and allowing them to make the moves on us rather than us creating any pressure on them. If you love animals but are fearful of animal exploitation this is the trip for you. They get the respect and appropriate behaviour from us to ensure that we impact as little as possible with them and their lives but we still get to enjoy and appreciate the opportunity to observe.

And finally, even if animals are not your thing you can still have a lovely time relaxing on the trampoline, having a wine or a walk or a snorkel ( not necessarily in that order). Corina is a lovely boat (can I call her a boat rather than a ship?). A nice stable large catamaran with shelter inside and plenty of sun deck. It even has a bbq tucked away for those moments when food become the thing on your mind. Have fun and thanks again guys.

Dear Laurie Thank you for such kind words and taking the time to write a detailed review. I am so happy that you get the passion we have for the wildlife and the environment, we try to let all our guests know that wildlife is amazing, but they need to be protected and we are so lucky and proud we are able to share that with kiwis. By sailing with us, every ticket directly contributes to marine mammal protection. We thank you for choosing us and the choosing to help the dolphins. Take care and we hope to see you again one day regards Carino Team
