El dia que teniamos reservado llovia muchisimo por lo que pensamos que lo iban a cancelar. Nos cobraron por darnos el traje para lluvia (deberia estar incluido con lo caro que sale el tour) y la verdad no la pasamos muy bien. Llovia bastante y hacia mucho, y si bien la guia le puso buena actitud la verdad es que no los disfrutamos. No podiamos ni parar a sacar una foto y yo solo queria que termine cuanto antes para poder irme a dar una ducha. Considero que si el clima no es favorable deberian dejarte elegir si hacerlo o no. - MFC19820 contribucionesNo se lo pierdan!!El tour parte de un pequeño y encantador pueblo llamado Hida Furukawa que queda a unos 20 minutos en tren desde Takayama. En nuestro caso, tomamos el tour regular en bicicleta. Recorrimos la zona pasando por campos de arroz, casas en el medio de la montaña y hermosos paisajes que nos permitieron ver y entender cómo viven los habitantes de la zona. Hisa, nuestro guía, iba parando en ciertos lugares para explicarnos lo que íbamos viendo y estaba siempre dispuesto a contestar preguntas y preocupado por que todos estuviésemos bien. Las bicicletas y todo el equipo están en perfectas condiciones y son muy cómodas. Si bien son varios kilómetros los que se recorren pudimos hacerlos sin problemas a pesar de no ser tan deportistas ni usar bicicletas seguido. Recomendamos el tour encarecidamente, es una de las mejores formas de ver otro Japón, el que se vive fuera de las grandes ciudades turísticas. Fue un paseo en bicicleta muy agradable, no demasiado duro físicamente, con unos paisajes preciosos a través de las montañas y los campos de arroz, hablando con la gente del lugar y visitando un mercado local. We had a wonderful tour in Takayama with Dong Ju in early January. My husband is Japanese and I lived in Japan for many years, but it was our first time visiting Takayama. We learned so much about the culture, food, and history of the Hida region and got to sample some great food and sake. In addition to being very knowledgeable about Hida cuisine and sake, Dong Ju has an interesting background and is fun and easy to talk to. We really enjoyed our time with him and recommend this tour to anyone wanting to learn more about this beautiful region of Japan and its unique history and food.
Since we visited in the winter shortly after the New Year, there weren't as many stalls in the morning market in at Takayama Jinya, though the morning market by the riverside was still very active. This didn't negatively affect our experience, but those looking to travel in the winter should be aware that things are a little slower that time of year and you should dress warmly.

Marino was a great guide and her English was excellent. She was keen to impart her enthusiasm for the area as someone who had moved to Hida herself. She made the small group interact in a fun way and ensured that we all enjoyed the Sake and tasty morsels on the tour. Plus she indicated where the good craft shops could be found for those looking for quality souvenirs. All great fun!

This was one of the highlights of our two week trip to Japan. Nanami was a superb guide and patiently answered our many questions. We particularly enjoyed the sake tasting and the visit to the sweet shop. We would very highly recommend the tour if you are in Takayama. It was a great way to gain an insight into Japanese food and culture which you would miss without a local guide. We hope to return to Japan at a different time of year and would love to take a bike tour when the weather is warmer.

Our guide Ayato, was a very friendly and experienced guide. We learned a lot about the food grown, ingredients used, and dishes prepared. We also had a wonderful time at the sake tasting experience. Explaining the process from grain to sake.
We continued through the old town and where Ayato would explain all of the local traditions. We would definitely recommend booking Ayato’s tour for those visiting Takayama.

Nanami did an excellent job of showing us the best of Takayama food and of course some Sake! We really enjoyed hearing all about the unique aspects of the Takayama food culture and the opportunity to ask many many questions! Our favourite was the sake, miso and soy tasting, topped off with a cool refreshing strawberry shaved ice at the end, in a small shop we would just never have gone into. We went back later to buy some of the sake and soy that we enjoyed. Excellent tour!

This tour with Ayoto was a fantastic way to be immersed in the ways of the Japanese people of Takyama - food, culture and customs. Ayoto with his youthful energy listened carefully to our interests and carefully tailored the tour to suit us and guided us expertly around the delights that Takyama has to offer. We had a lovely food tour with Marino in Takayama - her English is excellent and she was very informative about the town and it’s food culture. We tried different foods and our tour ended with a drink and mitarashi dango in a nice cafe which we wouldn’t have otherwise found.
Marino went above and beyond in showing us around. I would 100% recommend this tour.

Great tour with Mi and Kazuki in Takayama today! After a quick skim of the Sunday market understanding the local fresh produce we were off to a Sake brewery !
We had a concise and clear brief about Sake production and a more extended introduction to the varieties of Sake and how to make an informed selection. We were the let loose to taste the different types to select our preferred brew! Of course my wife and I disagreed on preference except that unpasteurised Sake had a full flavour.
Next Miso, that ubiquitous stock consumed daily in many Japanese homes. The preparation process was explained (made from dried fish not vegetables. Followed by the all important tasting - delicious!
A stroll through another Sunday food market and we tasted, fermented garlic, persimmon, chestnut biscuits, wonderful ginger and more! Followed by perfect beautiful sugar sweets in the form of cherry blossom. What a treat!
All finished with a coffee in a local cafe - perfect.
We highly recommend this tour - thank you Mi and Kazuki.

Nanami gave an enlightening tour introducing local food products and food ingredients. The explanation of how sake is made was particularily interesting as were the tastings! If you wish to learn about Japanese food, this is the tour for you.

A fascinating morning starting in the small local market - miso paste was a good buy ready vacuum-packed to take back on the plane. Marino’s English was really good and she could explain the culture as well as the food-making processes. Sake tasting was lovely and the tiny bar we went to for drinks and dumplings was a great break from the heat.
