Fun Fansipan 2D1N Hike!
feb. de 2020
Joey was very responsive to all our questions and they helped us organize all points of our trip - from the Sleeper train to the hike itself to the return journey. The language barrier in Vietnam is quite steep since many have trouble communicating in English, so the fact they were able to function as our bridge was really helpful. They also let us leave certain things in their office and shower after the hike.

For the hike itself, we had a really helpful guide named Van. His English was limited but he was doing his best to explain the weather to us and the trail itself. He went over and beyond to help me with my bag as well. The food prepared was also quite good, especially the little dinner feast at the cabin - excellent stuff!

The weather in February definitely could have been better. We hiked through mostly fog and mist and we decided to forego the sunrise push since you couldn't see anything beyond the clouds anyway. The trail itself was quite empty and the sleeping cabins were cold. So be sure to bring lots of warm clothes and prepare for all weather conditions.

Fantastic Trek Adventure
may. de 2019 • Parejas
Had a fantastic time treking up the mountain, our guide and porter were very friendly. The food that was prepared for us was delicious, and the morning hike was pleasant despite the overcast weather. The cable car down is jaw dropping and great for seeing the landscape you just climbed.

I'm leaving 4 stars only because the sleeping arrangements were uncomfortable. You are truly roughing it, sleeping in old sleeping bags, on elevated platforms with no pillows and no electricity. IDK if I had expected electricity or not, but our overnight in the hut was bare bones. That being said, the trek itself was challenging but amazing, and the views are breathtaking. We enjoyed our time with our guide, porter, and the locals as well as some of the other groups we met along the way. Best advice: know that this is a very challenging hike with great rewards, and definitely bring a headlamp (and a small pillow).

Excellent 2D1N fansipan mountain hiking trip
may. de 2019 • Parejas
The whole trip was very smooth thanks to Mr Joey and Mr Duc who were very responsive to our messages and calls when we were unsure about the location. Our tour guide was Mr Z who made our hiking experience a very memorable one. Food was more than adequate and tasty. We were even allowed to take a shower and a nap at their sapa office. I would recommend this trip to anyone who is interested in trekking Mt. Fansipan.

Fansipan hike
may. de 2019 • Parejas
Prior to our booking, Terribletour has promptly replies to our queries and made booking a pleasant process.
The hike to fansipan was amazing with wonderful tour guide Minh. He speaks English quite fluently and has a good sense of humour. He shares his interesting knowledge of the forest as we hike.
He is very caring and attentive to our needs. He noticed that me and wife are not as fit and gets tired easily, he initiated a lot of times if we need a short breaks throughout the whole hike.
He created pleasant surprise by plucking wild mushroom
during the hike so that we can have delicious mushroom soup for dinner.
Thank you Minh for taking care of us, and you are a great asset to the company.

Truly terrible
abr. de 2019 • Parejas
I don't know what was it, that our experience was in such a contrast to everyone else here - maybe a one-off mishap - but it was truly terrible.

We confirmed our trip a week before we went. Two days before the trip we were contacting the agency asking them for details about pickup and they were quiet. Only upon contacting their customer support on the eve of the tour we found out the tour was not booked, so they had to scramble the guide and porter, which they luckily did.

Our diatary requirements were not met at all. We asked for keto-friendly fatty meat and vegetables. For lunch we got chicken (lean and crap), lunchmeat (crap) and cucumber (basically green water) and eggs (thanks for that at least).

On top of it, the lunch made me sick (my wife didn't eat meat), so I had less energy than before it.

Dinner was good.

The camp experience was horrible - people were loud until midnight and we were put in a room with a man who snored superloud. I didn't get almost any sleeep because of it and decided not to summit because after the food experience and the night I knew I wouldn't have enough energy.

I know it's not their fault that the camp is as it is, but knowing that it would be much better if they offered to carry camping equipment and sleep in a tent a couple of hundred meters away from the camp (we even offered to carry our own camping equipment - the only reason we did it with the guide to begin with was that it was not officially allowed).

Finally the guide. All the way up he was loudly chatting with the porter. I asked him a couple of times to keep it quiet. At one point there was some insect making loud noise - and he threw a stick at it. That was bizarre and dumb AF - when I'm in nature those are the sounds I want to hear - not two yapping people. Should I have thrown a stick at him when he was loud?

Unfortunately this is what happens when the state makes it compulsory to use a service and hands out licenses instead of letting people freely decide if and which service to use. This way the guides and the park administrators don't have an incentive to provide a real added value because they know the customers must use them.

After this experience I cannot recommend Fansipan, Sapa and this company to anyone. I would recommend to do hiking in Taiwan, Indonesia, or other countries where guides are not compulsory and as a result their services are much better, and there is an option for those who want to go on their own by simply paying park entrance fees.

Dear Martina Forgac, This is the second time you posted the review, and almost everything you stated is untrue and we tolerate no more, it is quite frustrated due to the fact we did our best to organize your tour at last minute!!! First, due to our policy, to secure your tour, a deposit of 30% must be paid before the departure date which you did not. Not mention that while I always replied your emails within few hours, you only get back to us & claimed that you booked the tour the day before (not 2-day before) your departure date which is 5 days from your second-last emails (On the 13rd April, you asked about the foods & the accommodation, and there was nothing to show that you confirm the tour: you also told me that you were considering few offers from other tour operators, I replied back and never heard from you until 18th of April which is the night before your departure date, you replied back my email). Remember I emailed you before and told you that I’m on tour during this date, so I can only replied you after 5:00 PM, and I sent the email to Thuy. Thuy, our operation manager did her best that night to prepare & organize your tour: local guide, porter, special foods, travel permit… Second, you NEVER MENTIONED you (or your wife) don’t eat meat and we have prove throughout our whole conversation. Thuy even DESCRIBED the foods to you via WhatsApp & you said PERFECT!!!!! The foods might be basic, but we think it was reasonable for mountain climbers and our guests never complaint about the foods. Third, during our hike, our guide talked to you and you didn’t want to hear, you said you had a headache. Moreover, our guide had to throw the stick to the bushes because they thought there might be a snake hiding inside. Fourth, hiring a guide through a travel company is compulsory when it comes to Fansipan due to unprepared hikers getting lost over the past several years. Not mention your first review is even telling everyone to bribe the ranger officer to hike Fansipan yourself. Last but not least, building a brand and having what we have today is really hard, so there is no way we could jeopardize our business that way. Regards, Joey the Terrible

Fansipan Hiking Trip
abr. de 2019 • Amigos
We were recommended from a blogger in the Philippines and contact Joey from The Terrible Tour Guide. Everything went smoothly. Joey was always fast and gave us useful information what to expect from the hike. The hike itself was not easy but it was made better with a good guide (also our porter) who cooked us a really good foods. He know only basic English but he was really friendly and patient. He also gave some information about the forest and it was interesting to hear about his life in Lao Chai Village. The hut at 2,800 look quite clean but no electricity. We got really lucky as it was awesome clearing clouds when we nearly reach the top.

For those who love hiking and planning a trip to Fansipan, should try their service. We would not hesitate to recommend The Terrible Tour Guide Travel to anyone who wishes to go on an adventure trip in Vietnam.

Memorable Fangsipan Trek
abr. de 2019 • Amigos
Everything that was agreed was delivered. In addition, Joey was fast and accurate with his advice leading up to our trip to Hanoi. The trek was difficult but made easier with a guide that was chirpy (Linh!) and cajoled and encouraged us all the way. The porters were quietly efficient and helpful. All was good with a slight hiccup of an oversubscribed number of trekkers at the night-camp before the summit climb. I would recommend the Terrible Tour Guide. They were anything but terrible! :)

Conquered Mt Fansipan in 3D/2N
I booked this tour after a few email communication with Joey. His response was always very fast and gave me a good idea of what to expect. When the date was closer, I connected with Thuy and she was dedicated from the moment we landed in Hanoi airport and continued our journey from Hanoi train station, to Lao Cai train station, followed by a bus ride to Sapa, and then a taxi ride to start the hike from Sin Chai village.

The hike itself is moderate to difficult. The cold and wet weather in late December made it more challenging. However, we had a great tour guide (Trang) and porter who took care of us and cooked for us.

Overall, it was a great experience with the Terrible team! We will certainly return to Hanoi again for more adventure!
