Highly recommend spending an evening with Rafael. You get a chance to get more intimate with tango by learning it and visiting a milongo. He really gives you a feel of what tango is and the part it plays in Buenos Aires. More importantly it felt like we were hanging out friends and had a fun evening full of tango and other conversations.

We had the most amazing experience with Jamilla, Rafael and Roccio. Jamilla arranged four days of tango lessons and milongas, and as a bonus we were lucky enough to even see the semi finals of the city’s tango competition which Rafael and Roccio competed in. We traveled as a group of three generations (ranging from 20-76) and Jamilla was able to accommodate all of our needs. We began our experience by learning tango in a studio and then Rafael, Roccio and Jamilla took us to a variety of tango clubs. At the clubs we were able to try out our skills and use Jamilla’s service of masquerade dancers. We had the most considerate and amazing teachers in the context of the clubs and were integrated into the tango scene. Not only could we see ourselves progress, but we caught the tango bug. It was such a unique way of experiencing Buenos Aires. If you really want to get to know Argentinian tango culture, Jamilla is the person to contact. We guarantee you will not be disappointed.

I’ve been living in BA over 2 years and the only exposure I had to tango were the random street dancers in La Boca or near Recoleta cemetery. I recently heard about these “milongas” so was curious about attending one. Being that my Spanish is limited (blame it on the pandemic), I was reluctant to venture out to a milonga on my own. Jamila took the mystery out of it by providing a fun and welcoming experience. She’s extremely knowledgeable about the art and history of tango and broke down all the rules for our group. We even got a lesson on dancing before the ‘real’ dancers arrived, which was an absolute treat! Although I didn’t dare venture out and actually dance once the crowd picked up, just being there and watching/studying all the experienced dancers was so mesmerizing—felt like I could watch them all night. Jamila has definitely sparked my interest to further pursue some additional training. No doubt this has been one of my favorite experiences in BA yet!

We had a Tango lesson with Jamila and Rafael and then visited a milonga. Great fun and a good insight into local culture. In spite of only having just arrived in Buenos Aires, we managed to keep going until 2am.

We did this on New Year's Eve - we were 8 people with a wide range of ages and this turned out to be a really fun activity that we all enjoyed. Jamila was super-responsive (including on WhatsApp) and arranged everything at the last minute.
Alejandra & Rafael gave us a short class and then took us to Salon Canning for the milonga. I was impressed with how well the locals dance. Our guides and their friends, who were there, are obviously tango-addicts :) in a good way. It was so cool to watch them dance. We did get to participate and did so to some extent - it's a bit intimidating since we don't really know.
It was very different from a tango show (we saw a free one in Plaza Dorrego) and neat to see BA locals in their natural habitat. Recommend these guys strongly.

We went on a milonga (Tango) tour with Jamila and really enjoyed ourselves! Jamila was warm and welcoming and really made the evening feel like going out with friends. She made the otherwise somewhat inaccessible Tango culture in Argentina open to us, and knew a lot about the subject. Highly recommended for a cultural night out in BA!

Jamila, our tour guide, took us to Salon Canning, one of the best milongas in Buenos Aires. She reserved a front row table where we had an excellent view of the dancers and gave us a fascinating commentary on what was happening, from milonga conventions to the history of tango. Being a tango dancer herself and heavily immersed in the BA tango scene, she is very in the know. Furthermore she has a charismatic, warm personality, which made the evening all the more enjoyable. I would highly recommend this tour for something very personal and authentic, compared to the regular guide book tourist traps.

Unless you want see a glitzy west end style or "strictly" type show then give the chicken in a basket and group tours a miss. Find one of these personalised tours in a private or small group where a tango expert takes you to two clubs/ bars where the locals do the milonga, the origin of tango. Learn all about the social and political links it has and how deep rooted in society it has become. You will feel you have stepped back into 1950s BA. Live music played as well sometimes. Some offer you the chance to tango with the locals but only if you are good enough.

I took a solo trip to Buenos Aires. As we all know a trip to BA is not complete without some exposure to Tango. If it weren’t for Buenos Aires Milongo Tours I wouldn’t have experienced the local flavor of Tango as I would have been too intimidated to go to a milongo on my own. Jamila came a picked me up and took me to a club that had a live orchestra, locals tangoing the night away and a live tango show. She explained a lot about the culture of Tango. It was a great experience!

If one goes to BA, some exposure to tango is a must. Most people get that by going to "tango dinner-shows" which (in our opinion) do not offer an adequate level of "tango immersion", are too expensive and too touristic. The alternative is to book a private "tango experience" with a specialized outfit. They can put together a tour customized to one's desires. We googled up this subject and found BA Milonga Tours. This is run by Jamila. Originally from US, she relocated some years ago to BA driven by her love of tango. She put together for us a 4 hours tour including visits to two milongas (these are venues where the Argentines go to dance) including also the sipping of mate tea (a must to ensure one is completely awake for the experience). This was our second visit to BA; first time we went to a tango show and this time we went with Jamila. We highly recommend doing it this way and using Jamila as your guide/host for the experience. Not only that the language barrier is eliminated, but she is indeed a tango guru in both theory (i.e. knowledge) and practice (lesson can be included in the tour). On top of that she is a very friendly and and personable host, making the entire event so much more enjoyable. On our tour Jamila was accompanied by Glen; he is a native of Vermont who also found the tango as his professional call and has moved to Argentina many years ago to pursue tango competitively, and as a way of making a living. Glen's so good and knowledgeable about everything tango, he's teaching the locals about it and how to do it. Jamila's BA Milonga Tours is highly recommended.
