Fun evening with Jamila and friends.
nov. de 2018 • Amigos
We had a Tango lesson with Jamila and Rafael and then visited a milonga. Great fun and a good insight into local culture. In spite of only having just arrived in Buenos Aires, we managed to keep going until 2am.

Very interesting tango experience
ene. de 2019 • Familia
We did this on New Year's Eve - we were 8 people with a wide range of ages and this turned out to be a really fun activity that we all enjoyed. Jamila was super-responsive (including on WhatsApp) and arranged everything at the last minute.

Alejandra & Rafael gave us a short class and then took us to Salon Canning for the milonga. I was impressed with how well the locals dance. Our guides and their friends, who were there, are obviously tango-addicts :) in a good way. It was so cool to watch them dance. We did get to participate and did so to some extent - it's a bit intimidating since we don't really know.

It was very different from a tango show (we saw a free one in Plaza Dorrego) and neat to see BA locals in their natural habitat. Recommend these guys strongly.

A interesting and cultural night out in Buenos Aires!
may. de 2018 • Amigos
We went on a milonga (Tango) tour with Jamila and really enjoyed ourselves! Jamila was warm and welcoming and really made the evening feel like going out with friends. She made the otherwise somewhat inaccessible Tango culture in Argentina open to us, and knew a lot about the subject. Highly recommended for a cultural night out in BA!

Milonga personalised tour
may. de 2018 • Amigos
Jamila, our tour guide, took us to Salon Canning, one of the best milongas in Buenos Aires. She reserved a front row table where we had an excellent view of the dancers and gave us a fascinating commentary on what was happening, from milonga conventions to the history of tango. Being a tango dancer herself and heavily immersed in the BA tango scene, she is very in the know. Furthermore she has a charismatic, warm personality, which made the evening all the more enjoyable. I would highly recommend this tour for something very personal and authentic, compared to the regular guide book tourist traps.

The REAL DEAL tango
mar. de 2018 • Amigos
Unless you want see a glitzy west end style or "strictly" type show then give the chicken in a basket and group tours a miss. Find one of these personalised tours in a private or small group where a tango expert takes you to two clubs/ bars where the locals do the milonga, the origin of tango. Learn all about the social and political links it has and how deep rooted in society it has become. You will feel you have stepped back into 1950s BA. Live music played as well sometimes. Some offer you the chance to tango with the locals but only if you are good enough.

Visiting a Milongo
dic. de 2017 • En solitario
I took a solo trip to Buenos Aires. As we all know a trip to BA is not complete without some exposure to Tango. If it weren’t for Buenos Aires Milongo Tours I wouldn’t have experienced the local flavor of Tango as I would have been too intimidated to go to a milongo on my own. Jamila came a picked me up and took me to a club that had a live orchestra, locals tangoing the night away and a live tango show. She explained a lot about the culture of Tango. It was a great experience!

Great tango experience in Buenos Aires
feb. de 2017 • Parejas
If one goes to BA, some exposure to tango is a must. Most people get that by going to "tango dinner-shows" which (in our opinion) do not offer an adequate level of "tango immersion", are too expensive and too touristic. The alternative is to book a private "tango experience" with a specialized outfit. They can put together a tour customized to one's desires. We googled up this subject and found BA Milonga Tours. This is run by Jamila. Originally from US, she relocated some years ago to BA driven by her love of tango. She put together for us a 4 hours tour including visits to two milongas (these are venues where the Argentines go to dance) including also the sipping of mate tea (a must to ensure one is completely awake for the experience). This was our second visit to BA; first time we went to a tango show and this time we went with Jamila. We highly recommend doing it this way and using Jamila as your guide/host for the experience. Not only that the language barrier is eliminated, but she is indeed a tango guru in both theory (i.e. knowledge) and practice (lesson can be included in the tour). On top of that she is a very friendly and and personable host, making the entire event so much more enjoyable. On our tour Jamila was accompanied by Glen; he is a native of Vermont who also found the tango as his professional call and has moved to Argentina many years ago to pursue tango competitively, and as a way of making a living. Glen's so good and knowledgeable about everything tango, he's teaching the locals about it and how to do it. Jamila's BA Milonga Tours is highly recommended.

Truly memorable customized experience - breath of fresh air navigating the tango scene!
feb. de 2017 • Amigos
Our tango experience with Buenos Aires Milonga tours was incredible - a highlight of our trip to Buenos Aires! 5 friends from around the world and I spent a week exploring the culture and city of Buenos Aires, and as part of that we wanted to try our hand at Tango. Our group had limited previous exposure to tango and lacked both practical dance skills and the knowledge to navigate the complex tango options available in the lively BA tango scene. Our experience with Jamila was a breath of fresh air and the custom-tailored experience was truly memorable and a highlight of our trip. Jamila met with us to discuss what tango options exist and what we wanted to experience. Instead of watching a show, our group preferred to learn some tango basics and then try out these new skills at a local Milonga - tango dance houses throughout the city. Jamila coordinated a night that included in-home lessons with led by Jamila and a 2nd tango instructor (since our group was a bit larger, this left more room for personal instruction). The instructions were easier to follow than other dance lessons I’ve taken, and I very quickly felt competent in the basics (strong statement for someone with lead feet). Jamila arranged transportation for us to one of the nicer, local milongas that locals enjoy, with a cooler vibe. This was a great help, since we had previously been researching the milongas, but there wasn’t a good way to distinguish between the ok and great options. We got there a bit early to practice on the dance floor, and then as people started to arrive, we blended into the crowd and had a great time. Thanks so much for an incredible experience, Jamila!

Tango Night at the Milonga
ene. de 2017 • Amigos
If you want to experience a memorable night of tango get in touch with Jamila. My friend and I had seen professional tango dancers in the past but we wanted to go to a neighborhood milonga in Buenos Aires. What a great night iit was! Jamila met us at our hotel and took us to the milonga at 11:30pm. We had a table right in front and Jamila gave us lots of information including the etiquette involved in tango. It was a marvelous night and i highly recommend contacting Jamila for the best of local culture.

A Marvelous Experience!
nov. de 2015 • Amigos
I went to several milongas with Jamila between August and December 2015. Each time was an adventure and such a wonderful experience. Jamila has made Buenos Aires her home and really integrated herself into the tango world there, so she's a wealth of knowledge. From giving background information on tango (basic techniques, etiquette, what each type of music means) to securing tables with great views of the dancers and orchestra, the experience is one that is not to be missed. If you're on Buenos Aires on a Sunday, definitely utilize this service to see one of the best milongas in the city, where Jamila is well-known . . . and you may even get the chance to see her dance. If you don't speak Spanish, fear not! Jamila's is good enough to help you navigate this essential part of Argentine culture.
