Mothers' Day History Tour of NYC
may. de 2019 • Familia
Ina Selden, the founder of Manhattan Passports, designed, arranged and led a tour of New York City on Mother's Day, specifically tailored to appeal to mothers, their children, and the mothers' mothers; appropriate for children and grandmothers alike. Given the occasion, she emphasized the role of the mothers in the lives of some of the early founders of the country and the city. I have experienced NYC tours led by Manhattan Passports before, all of which were amazing, but this one brought with it the realization that Ms. Selden 1) can think on her feet, 2) REALLY knows her subject, and 3) is insightful and clever enough to design bespoke tours that will appeal to very specific audiences, if she is asked to do so.
As an independent thinker, Ms Selden does not just re-package the ideas and information assembled by others, no matter how scholarly. She has studied original sources and brings to her tours a fresh interpretation that exposes the reasons NYC and New Yorkers developed as they did, and a new perspective that resonates with today's world and today's issues. Suddenly, it all makes sense --- such a satisfying feeling!
It goes without saying (but I will say it) that she is super organized; every detail of the tour was carefully choreographed and even in the heavy rain it ran smoothly and comfortably. We all somehow stayed dry and happy.

Thank you so much for your enthusiastic review. It perfectly captures the spirit of the tour. Our mission, and it is a mission, is to introduce forgotten visionaries, dreamers and schemers who helped New York become the city it is today.

Increased my knowledge of New York!
may. de 2019 • Familia
I learned a lot about New York and how such amazing people knew how NY would look today. My favorite person to learn was the man who was making sidewalks and put metal poles to vision where the sidewalks would be and how people would remove the poles he would constantly put them back. I also liked how i could knock on a piece of wood when the tour guide said "opportunity comes knocking!"

Thanks for your review, our first from a 12-year-old! Your favorite person on the tour was John Randel, Jr. In 1808, when he was only 20, he was handed the now famous grid plan for Manhattan and told to "Just do it." And he did it, making Manhattan navigable without a GPS. But not before unhappy residents pelted Randel with rotten fruit, stole his horse, threw him in jail for trespassing. Randel doesn't even rate a street sign or a plaque!

Deepen your understanding of NYC and be entertained!
may. de 2019 • En solitario
A perfect mix of history and anecdotes comfortably combined with a well-appointed small coach and walking. Would be perfect for a visitor or New Yorker interested in a deeper understanding of how the Dutch shaped New York. Amazing that what happened 300 years ago shaped who we are today. Leader was great at reading her audience and the tour flew by. Really made history come alive.

Many thanks for your review. Yes, the Dutch set New York's DNA. They imbued us with their can-do spirit, their respect for individual rights and the rule of law. Before New Amsterdam became New York women enjoyed amazing rights. Too bad the Dutch couldn't stick around longer. Women would probably have gotten the vote in this country much earlier.

A Rich Encounter with Manhattan and Those Who Shaped It.
ene. de 2019 • En solitario
Theme and execution make this an outstanding tour of Manhattan. A sequence of critical
moments from the city’s becoming – expectations, controversies, and results – are selected. Some of the “shapers” are not well known, and/or shown from a novel and interesting angle. Remarkably, the topical dynamic of the tour is matched by a dynamic experience for the participants (surely for this one), a sense of being engaged in a discovery rather than merely receiving information. This has a lot to do with the structuring of the guide's narrative, a spirited shifting among factual recording, anecdotal nuggets, cross-references to earlier remarks and commentary within a larger context.

We love reviews like this. Our tour is meant to shake things up, and give credit where credit is long overdue to many unsung heroes who shaped the city, literally and figuratively.

An opportunity to follow the footsteps of the people who made New York one of the world's greatest cities
ene. de 2019 • Negocios
I am a licensed New York City tour guide and I learned many new things about New Amsterdamers from the Dutch days, New Yorkers from the English days and New Yorkers from the post-American-Revolution days ---- and how these famous people - and people I've never heard about made New York the special city it is today. By the end of the tour, I was looking at New York in a completely different way. Ina has developed a gem of a tour which I'm sure she would custom-designed for corporate and other types of groups who would want to offer their guests a fun and very substantial experience.

See the city as you've never seen it before
ene. de 2019 • En solitario
This is one of those rare New York experiences that can appeal equally to a tourist and a lifer. The guides narrate layers of NYC that are rarely addressed through memorable stories--stories that I won't soon forget. Three hours flew by and I wish the tour could have lasted three days. Very invigorating!

A unique dive into the individuals who shaped New York's powerful DNA.
ene. de 2019 • Amigos
This tour takes one across decades and miles, punctuated with often little known history and individuals who influenced the culture, mindset and physical development of New York City. Ina delightfully shares her extensive research, insights and clear love of the city. An informative and enjoyable experience -- whether you're a seasoned New Yorker or first time visitor.

Refreshingly Different
ene. de 2019
This is not your typical sightseeing tour of New York and that’s a very good thing. I learned the story of how New York came to be in a way that challenged my prior conceptions, introduced me to new names who played a key role in the city’s history and inspired me to learn more. The guides are passionate, knowledgeable and clearly love this city. Highly recommended for both visitors to the city and those who call themselves NYers.
