My husband and I selected this tour as part of our anniversary trip to Savannah. Kellee was an amazing guide! Her culinary knowledge as well as her local history knowledge were both extensive and she presented both with humor! She was attentive to the guests, ensuring our comfort and anticipating our needs before we were even aware if them! The food was amazing and we discovered new places that will become must haves on future trips! Parkers...wow! Rise...going back this week for another biscuit! Cotton Exchange...had been before but got to try a menu item that I wouldn't have ordered on my own and now I want to! LOVED the history of the Savannah Candy Kitchen! Kellee also answered our questions about other restaurants as well as made recommendations (at our request) on where to purchase local food to cook. We will definitely be back for more tours (this was our 2nd with the company) and will request this guide, if possible.

My husband and I very much enjoyed the food tour and are considering doing another one with Savannah Taste Experience the next time we're in Savannah. Our tour guide, Cindy White, was very knowledgeable about Savannah's history and very friendly. She was attentive to all the participants and engaged with everyone (5 guests in our group). I found the pace of the walking tour relaxing, not too hurried. We were able to stop and talk, we were able to sit a bit to enjoy the offerings. Cindy made sure to point out other interesting spots we might enjoy, other food tours we might be interested in. Overall it was a positive experience.
I have only 2 critiques which kept this review at a 4 (rounded up 3.5) rather than a 5:
[1] As I mentioned above: Cindy was a great guide. BUT: as it's a food tour, I would have liked a little more knowledge, specifically, about Savannah's food history: the influences, the impact of location/weather/transport, local sourcing, the history/trends, etc. Savannah is a food town, after all. General city history could and had been gotten from our other tours (like info about the squares, General Oglethorpe, Chief Tomochichi, and Eli Whitney).
[2] This was billed as a FRIED food tour, only 2 of the 4 restaurants we stopped in at offered fried mains - the fried green tomato slice with wobbly breading from the BBQ joint did not really impress or count as a 'fried food stop'. To be honest, that aspect was a little disappointing. (What can I say, we're pigs, we were looking to stock up on southern fried foods.)

My husband & I thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Kellee. We started with fried chicken tenders from a gas station/market (Parker’s market) that were outstanding & somewhere you would never expect to find all the wonderful food options as well as gift items. Next Kellee, sat us down in a shaded park & picked up biscuits from Rise which were delicious. While walking from one place to the next (a leisurely pace) Kellee gave us fascinating details of history in the area that you just don’t get on the riding tours. Kellee is a trained chef & had so much knowledge of the area foods & history that you were enraptured and never thought of the actual time walking. We ended up on river street, where we tried fried shrimp & hush puppies from the cotton exchange that were to die for. Lastly, we had pralines from Savannah candy kitchen which is a must do when on river street. If you take this tour, ask for Kellee. She’s the best!

I've never been on a food tour before so keep that in mind when you read this review. What we liked:
1) The tour guide was fantastic and really made sure everyone could hear her when she was sharing information (not those just walking close to her). She shared information about the city and its history, not just the food.
2) We were full afterwards and enjoyed almost all of the food!
What we didn't like:
1) We only went inside and sat at a table at one of the four places. For the others, we literally ate outside under awnings (it was raining). I think had it not been raining, the plan is to find a spot on one of the benches at a nearby square to eat. However, Savannah is a hot and humid city and even when it's not raining, you cannot count on getting a bench. I much prefer to eat while sitting down and enjoying my food - not standing around a bench dripping in sweat or on the street under an awning.
2) One of the places we sampled food from was literally a gas station/convenience store! I will admit, their chicken tenders were awesome, but seriously?

While we designed this tour to take guests a little outside of the norm by going to local favorite eateries that don't necessarily have an indoor dining space, we understand that sometimes our guests have different expectations.

Cindy, the tour guide was wonderful. Full of detailed information about Savannah's history. Food on the other hand was sad. We had a great start with the first stop, hush puppies, fried shrimp and a spoonful of grits. Down hill from there. 2 more food stops at "fast food" type places. dry fried chicken on a biscuit, mouthful of pulled pork and a slim slice of fried green tomato and finally a praline, which can be had at any of the multiple savannah candy stores. Wish we had had more food stops considering the paltry portions and more imaginative restaurants considering Savannah is known for its culinary offerings. Not worth the price. Perhaps the other food tours were more creative but Southern Fried Expectations was disappointing.

We of course would have preferred to have read about a 5-star experience you enjoyed, but do always appreciate the opportunity to learn from our guests' true experiences.
While we specifically designed the Souther Fried Expectations Food Tour to attract customers looking for those traditional southern fried specialties - fried shrimp, fried chicken, fried green tomatoes - we obviously missed the mark in terms of marketing. We will look into the language we use to market, advertise and explain our Southern Fried Expectations tour to make sure people have the right expectation going into it.
Similarly, we have always advertised that tour as being shorter with less food stops because of how heavy the tastings are given that everything is fried. We will also take another look at the portion sizes on this tour to make sure we provide enough delicious food to satisfy our guests.
We further apologize that as a result of COVID-19, we had to change up these tastings slightly so that they could be enjoyed in a picnic-style (outside) because there was not enough room inside each space to enjoy the food while still adhering social distance principles.

This is a must do when visiting Savannah! We weren't able to make it work until the end of the trip, but definitely have places we want to go back to on our next visit to the city. Gesareas a fantastic tour guide- very knowledgeable about the city and the food. We started at Fiddler's crab shack and my boys tried grits for the first time. Bloody Mary here was great! Next we went to The Lady and Sons(Paula Deans restaurant) and the chicken, collard greens, & biscuit were so melt in your mouth. Next stop was The Blind Sus- boys had bbq pork tacos that were their favorite foos of the whole trip. We ended up at Savannah's candy kitchen... I couldn't get my kids out! Such a fun time- highly recommend!

Tour guide Lisa took our small group of 5 on a unique new experience with 4 stops & plenty of food. All delish! we were able to see parts of restaurants not known to me before & taste "southern fried foods" at its best. Its a new tour & i give it a 4 thumbs up - wear your "buffet waist pants" - there's good portion sizes at each stop not just samples. Lisa was informative & made this experience a fun time.

We took the tour with Country. She had us laughing the whole time! It’s definitely adult humor, but then we were a group of adults drinking and having a good time. From start to finish, we were ushered through some of Savannah’s best southern food. Add on top of that some amazing drinks and you’ll have a wonderful afternoon. It’s not a difficult walk, and had plenty of rest stops, but Savannah has uneven paths so be sure to wear sneakers. Go as a couple, a group, or solo and leave with new friends.

We try to join a food tour in most cities we visit as they are a great way to learn the history and culture of a place. Today’s tour was one of the best. Our guide, Rachel, was informative and engaging. She was clearly passionate about Savannah, its history and food. We would certainly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Savannah.

If you are looking for a great food tour with great hosts, you need to try Savannah Southern Fried Expectations Walking Food Tour. Not only was all the food spectacular but the tour itself was great. I'm doing this review a little late so unfortunately, I do not remember the ladies' names. They were very knowledgeable and accented each other well. If you're wondering about the walk, it wasn't bad at all. My husband is NOT a walker, and he did fine. Make this one of your tours you will not be disappointed.....

Hello! How much time is spent indoors vs outdoors? Is it possible to enjoy the food and drinks by eating/drinking only while outdoors?

On our tour the eating was done primarily indoors. Your guide walks you from location to location, but once you make a stop the prearranged food-serving is handled at a prearranged table - all except the candy shop stop for us the very end.
