Wonderful desert getaway!
mar. de 2020
We stayed 3 nights in Hacra with Gemar and his family in March 2020 and loved our time there. Gemar is an excellent host and we had some really interesting and insightful discussions exchanging experiences and world views. The jhumpa we stayed in was spotlessly clean, cool and comfortable and the vegetarian food prepared by Gemar and his wife delicious and interesting. Each day we walked with Gaji or Parbat to a different neighbouring hamlet to meet the locals and observe their way of life. We had a warm welcome everywhere we went, particularly from all the children. The camel ride and overnight campout in the dunes were unforgettable.

If you're interested in finding out about rural life in India and want to experience the side of Rajasthan that is not the big forts and palaces of Jaipur and Jodhpur etc then we can't recommend this highly enough.

Awesome and peaceful experience in the Thar desert
feb. de 2020 • Parejas
We spent two nights at HACRA homestay and we enjoyed it so much. It was a much needed break from the hussle of the Rajasthan cities. The huts are simple but comfortable. We enjoyed the slowed down pace of life and hanging around. The community walk was interesting and the camel riding was very fun. We also enjoyed the homemade and fresh food. The host Gemar and his friend Gadi were great and helpful people. We loved talking with them.
The stay wasn’t cheap but in our opinion it was worth it (also because that way you are supporting the community).
We would recommend this experience as it was a highlight for us.
Cheers, Marina and Samy

Review of HACRA Dhani and Gemar Singh
ene. de 2020
If you’re seeking “the real India,” look no further than the tiny hamlet of HACRA Dhani and Gemar Singh. Nestled in the scrubby fringes of the Thar “Living” Desert of Rajasthan, Gemar’s home provides a window to rural Indian life usually inaccessible to Westerners. He’s created a traveler's oasis on his land — traditional “Jhumpa” huts for his guests, wonderful meals prepared by his family, contacts with locals, guided activities — all without compromising the essence of the culture as so often happens when tourism distorts a local experience. Gemar cares about his guests and his community. His communications are timely and thoughtful, his ethics unquestionable. Contact Gemar Singh and visit HACRA Dhani. You’ll be happy you did.

Desert experience
sept. de 2019 • Amigos
We were picked up from our hotel in Jodhpur by taxi organised by HACRA out to the desert near Osian. The camel trek was a great experience in the living desert. Enjoyed the home cooked meal by the family who owns the camels. It gave us an appreciation of the contrast of living in the city compared to the desert.

I can give the best recommendation for HACRA tours, Mr Gemar Singh organized my 10 day travel across Rajasthan. It was very easy to communicate with him via emails before I left for the tour. By his professional advices in regards to my wishes for an itinerary, together we came to an agreement about the best way to do the trip. He organized for me a great driver and it all led to an amazing journey.

Next time I hope to come back and visit the desert camp.

This was one of the best stays of our India holiday. A month has passed since we were in desert. But my memory pertaining the early morning authentic Indian chai and cookies are still so fresh and the taste still so alive in my mind that I get so nostalgic.

I don’t usually write reviews but I felt Gemar Singh and his family are worth it. They were so welcoming. Germar knew so much about nature around his village. He offer the traveler a true experience of desert life. We felt so welcome in their home and there weren’t other tourist for miles and miles. The camel ride was great, so calm after the Indian cities! Really amazing rustic night out in the desert. The quality of the sky is great for star gazing. Quality time in the desert with very nice people.

If you are looking for a peaceful and authentic excursion, definitely get in touch with Gemar. You will not find any commercial, touristy gimmicks there -just beautiful India and incredible people

When Mr. Singh picked us up in Jodhpur we were not sure what to expect. His galant welcome and enthousiasme took us right into a wonderful experience. From that moment we had the perfect host, who had arranged a neat and inspiring two days. A highlight in our ten-day tour of western India.

True desert camp experience!
feb. de 2018
Mister Gemar Singh created a great tour: we were picked up by jeeps at our hotel in Jodhpur and via the Jaïn temple made our way to the desert where camels were waiting for us. After an exciting camel ride while the sun was setting, we made it to the camp. The huts, where we stayed for one night, were basic but provided all we needed. When the sun had set, a camp fire was made and local musicians made music by the fire. At night it got quite cold in the desert, but plenty warm blankets were provided. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious and far exceeded expectations! Food (local dishes) was as good as in an Indian restaurant. In the morning we did a nature walk and saw a.o. chinkaras and owl. All in all a superbe experience!!

When you plan an itinery to a country you know little about you have to take a leap of faith and this was the case with our visit to Hacra. I had only read the reviews on this website and was attracted by the idea of having a non tourist, more authentic experience and this is exactly what we had.

We have been travelling around northern india with a driver and he was very dubious about dropping us off in Osian because it's not a tourist area. His questioning made us a bit nervous but this soon passed once we met Gemar Singh. I was firstly struck by Gemar's calm personality and his excellent language skills.

Firstly we were invited for chai and tasty snacks then taken a few kilometers by jeep to meet our camels. Gemar left us at that point and we were guided through the local area by 3 guides. It was good fun although riding camels isn't the most comfortable so 2 hours was plenty.

After the ride we were dropped at Gemar's place where we were shown to our hut. It was so peaceful ...no honking of horns or any of the other noises of india....just nature.

We were given a pot of delicious ginger tea and just relaxed. After that we took our own sunset walk and enjoyed watching the birds, gazelles and the amazing orange sun. As soon as the sun disappeared it became cold so do bring extra layers to keep warm.

We ate with the family in a stone home built by Gemar. We sat on the floor and were fed with simple fresh delicious food, chapati, dhal and veg curry. Gemar has 2 children who joined us. After supper we talked with Gemar about all kinds things...particularly arranged marriages and the caste system. We had lots of questions which he answered with great articulation and clarity. He is a very absorbing character, well read and a philosopher....we could of talked all night.

Our beds were very comfortable and we slept well. We only stayed for one night which on retrospect was a mistake. I wish we had stayed for at least two nights to really get a sense of the place. The experience is quite expensive but we were happy to pay a bit more.

We left mid morning to continue on with our travels but we will not forget this experience. Thank you Gemar and family for being our hosts and giving us access into your remarkable world.

This experience was made very easy and relaxing by Gemar - from enquiry to booking to the stay.
I chose to make my way from Jodhpur to Osian by public bus from (which was a good experience itself). I was met by Gemar and he took me to the local temple first, which is worth the visit. Then we drove a little way and got to know each other a little. I was dropped off to a camel and it's guide and we rode into the desert for a couple hours to the guide's family settlement where Gemar was waiting also. They welcomed me with chai tea and then lunch. In the heat of the day (~38-40 degrees Celsius) I sat/lay on a bed in the shady comfort of a tree and watched the father and some helpful locals build a new house with clay and local rock. We stayed there for quite a few hours to rest before another 2 hours on Camel towards Gemar's place as sunset approached.
As others have described, the accommodation and Gemar's family are most charming. I enjoyed time learning from and helping Mewa prepare tea and meals.
The second day we went for a walk to see the local environs and visited another family. The young-adults were fun and welcoming and one of the sons spoke good English. I had my hair done and henna drawn. Then again rested for quite a few hours back at the HACRA huts - I recommend a good book (or card/dice/ball games) and to embrace the peace and quiet and rest in the hot, middle of the day.
Gemar was very generous with his conversation and interest in his world and that of his guests. Thank you Gemar and Mewa, may we meet again.
