We decided a cute little group walk was in order after the party the night before.

The walk is not easy and a moderate level of fitness is required. When you get to the top you will need to climb over rocks and then up a ladder, but was the view worth it! Beautiful sunshine, clouds and a wedge tail eagle hanging around.
The walk down is lovely at a slower pace

Recommend going as early as you can to beat the foot traffic on the paths and the line for the ladder up to the skywalk.

Has seen images of the sky walk and as we were driving by I decided on the spur of the moment to give it a try. Located on Porongurup Road, about a 25min drive from Mount Barker. It has a large car park with toilets at the base of the walk. As it is located in the Porongurup National Park, there is a park fee of $15/vehicle - there is an unmanned/automated ticket machine near the toilets.

In my eagerness to get started I neglected to read all the information at the start of the walk. Firstly there is a Grade 4 walk (2.2km) which is about 1 hr walking up a steep path through the Karri and Marri trees. Then there is a Grade 5 walk (15mins) essentially scrambling up the large granite boulders, using metal handholds, and then a 7 metre enclosed ladder to the actual skywalk.

I only read the bit about the sky walk and thought it would be a breeze. If you are going to attempt this then I would suggest you bring decent walking/hiking boots, light weight clothing, bottled water, a jumper/pullover (as it can get cool when you at the top) and a camera.

The trek up the hills is relatively steep and there are a lot of slippery, rough and uneven surfaces along the trail - there are however plenty of spots when you can stop, rest and catch your breath.

Be prepared when you get to the skywalk to have to wait to climb the boulders, as the is often a queue. The views from the sky walk are 100% worth the climb.

The walk back was easier than the walk up but leave yourself a hour to trek back.

Fairly steep and tough going right from the get go. Be prepared for a constant, non stop incline all the way to the top. 2.2km from the Castle rock car park.

We’ll worth it!! Spectacular views if you’re brave enough to get up to the skywalk. Highly recommend! Go early and avoid weekends. $15 ticket booth, parking meter style, on arrival.

This was definitely a challenge but well worth it once we finally make it to the top. We needed to put on jumpers once reached higher ground…got quite chilly. 4 of us and we drank about 1L of water between us, mainly on way up. 2A Mr16 & Miss7 (About 18 degree day in spring). We made numerous quick stops to rest & have a breather. Climb up is easy for some, tricker for others. Tricky for me but did manage it with some help from Mr16. There is a lookout for those who do not wish to climb to the higher one (Views are beautiful). Miss7 decided she wasn't climbing to the top but FYI I sure quite a few young children climb it with their parents assistance. Definitely worth the aching body the next day :) There are toilets @ the entry. When we came down there was no toilet paper left. (About 3.30pm)

Fun walk! Classed as a grade 5 walk. The first 2km up to Balancing Rock is simple, a series of steps, nothing technical.
The final few metres up to the Granite Sky Walk - you need to scramble over rocks BUT there are metal handles which makes it a lot easier.

Even on an overcast and drizzly day this was amazing. The walk up is fairly steep - more than I expected, but the views up the top are worth it. There is a lookout for viewing to the side when you get to the skywalk - but if you want to go up onto of the rocks it's definitely worth doing. Some rock scrambling with handholds and then a 7mt ladder is required. The views were wonderful even though it was very windy and drizzly when we got to the top of this hike (the bottom was dry, only overcast). So glad I got to do this one, was awesome.

I felt well and truely tricked by my wife soon after we left the carpark at 8am when the trail started to go uphill and super fit little Miss CrossFit announced then that there was a 2.2km hike to the summit and it was all uphill! Anyhow, not as fit as I used to be (due to some dubious lifestyle choices), I had to stop a few times to whinge and whine while sucking the big ones in, between coughing spasms (a legacy of a recent bout of Covid.) It is bit of a hard slog to get to the top but once at the top, I got my own back when Little Miss CrossFit who is unreasonably scared of heights baulked at going up the ladder to the Skywalk leaving me to enjoy the amazing view on my own and all the coaxing and reassuring in the world couldn't get her to brave the final 7 meter climb up the ladder, so the last laugh was on me. It is without a doubt the best view I have ever seen while still being connected to Terra Firma.

How they built this is fantastic. Solid trek up the hill, a climb through the rocks, and a view forever. Outstanding.

Had the entire national Park to ourselves bar several families of kangaroos. Love this walk, the huge granite outcrops and the stunning views from the skywalk. Not to be missed.

Walked 2km approximately to get to the Granite skywalk , where you have to manoeuvre through some rocks holding onto steel holdings and also climb a ladder to get to the platform . Once there the view is amazing. Not for the faint hearted but saw many people and children of all walks but just be prepared for the long walk up. Worth a visit.
Car park fee is now $15 and you can pay by automated machine via eftpos and leave ticket on dashboard of your vehicle. Toilet facilities available too.
