We had heard great things about Kielder Winter Wonderland so decided to go in the run up to Christmas. The tickets were somewhat pricey at ~£50 each (including for adults) but we thought it would be worth it.
The day centres around four main events of Mrs Christmas, the Elves workshop and Santa, the beavers and the Christmas theatre. These are all pretty much theatrical events with minimal interaction.
Our main issue was with the amount of waiting between events. Children don't like waiting for hours between one event and the next and we felt that the main events probably only lasted 2 hours or so in total, meaning the 6 hours we spent there (mostly waiting) was excessive. A cynic might think the main reason for all the waiting around is to push those in attendance to spend money at the eateries and shops on site.
Aside from the waiting, the narrative and story of the events was a little strange. Our 5 year old daughter didn't really understand it but did enjoy the singing etc. When we went to leave (at about 5pm) the path to the car park was very dark and with few signs (it is not always clear if "way out" means the way to the car park or the path for cars to follow out of the forest, as cars and pedestrians use the path). It is lucky we didn't get lost.
Overall, it filled a day but I don't think we will go back for this. Kielder itself is fabulous but we won't rush back to the Winter Wonderland.

Weve just spent a week in otterstone spa No 6 which was amazing. The view was stunning and the lodge itself has everything you could need plus ours had recently had both bathrooms renovated which was a nice bonus.
The park itself is so quiet and beautiful there are so many walks around the resvoir to take with stunning views. There is a local shop on site which is good but I'd still recommend doing a big shop as there isn't any shops nearby or places to eat really. The pub onsite is OK, the service is really good but the food itself is just alright. Apart from the breakfast we had on check out day as this is the only day that it opens for breakfast which was a shame.
We will definitely return though all staff were very friendly and Kielder forest is so lovely and very dark sky's perfect for star gazing.

Love to visit Kielder, plenty for all to do and multiple stops along the way from the village to the dam. Easy - experienced routes for both walking and biking. Several eating options all around the lake. Well worth a visit. No phone reception in most areas of kielder so you can fully switch off.

Beautiful area. Enjoyed the walks round the lakeside path with our two dogs. My husband is disabled and has a tramper and the tracks are perfect for him. Good car parks at either end of the north shore walk. Particular mention to the little Kielder general store by the community run self serve petrol pump (petrol good price but you need a card for chip and pin). Do not be put off by the appearance of the shop right by the garage. The fresh baguettes are truly freshly made, tasty and good value. Very friendly service too.

Had a lovely stay. Met by Jeff on reception lovely chap and really loved his job and appreciates the sunrises! ☀️ Lodge was lovely, clean comfortable and modern. We took dogs, x2 labs and was just enough space for all of us.
Pool and day spa was added luxury plus the restaurant on site. We went as an adult group and were not surrounded by kids so perfect trip if you really want an escape. Unspoilt, traffic free. No village within 5 miles each way.
The midges began to come out in the last day as weather warmed up a bit. They are fairly persistent so would strongly recommend fly stuff and tablets if bites affect you.

Stayed in a lodge for a week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The accommodation was lovely, excellently equipped and very comfortable. The activities onsite are varied and we really enjoyed the crossbow session (thanks Josh). The gym is well equipped.
We treated ourselves to eating in the restaurant most nights, the food was very tasty and good value. Thanks go to the staff, Derek, Brandon, Dionne, Joanne, and chef. Sorry if I missed anyone, but the whole team were very welcoming and friendly. All staff throughout the site were nice and helpful. And this is a very dog friendly site. Our dog George was welcome in most of the site locations, including the restaurant. He had a great time too, with plenty of walks.
One minor thing if I may suggest is to keep a log of who has the PS4 games, as the selection available was limited.
But out of all similar sites we've visited, this is the best presented lodge we've stayed in. Really enjoyed our holiday and will definitely come back at some point.

We stopped at Tower Knowe visitors' centre, as we had been advised that you could walk along the lakeside from there and that there were amazing views across the water. Unfortunately, we found when we got there that the path which ran close by the water was blocked off and the path in the other direction went through woodland that only gave distant glimpses of the water through the trees.
However, an unexpected bonus was that we arrived when the Osprey Watch was happening. This is a free event that takes place every Saturday, Sunday and Wednesday until mid August. You can view the osprey nest through the telescopes provided, and there is a screen showing the live feed from the camera in the nest. There is also another screen showing footage of previous years' nests. The volunteers are all so friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, and it turned what could have been a disappointing visit into one of the highlights of our week.

Right from arriving we found the staff friendly and helpful.
The lodges are comfortable, clean and warm with everything that you could possibly need and more.
We loved the BBQ, especially as the weather was quite wet. There's nothing nicer than sitting on furs in the little hut with a fantastic BBQ to cook on.
Must also mention the restaurant for its excellent food and superb staff.

We absolutely love Kielder for dog walking, and visit whenever we’re in this part of Northumberland. There are so many trails to choose from, and any which are inaccessible are helpfully listed in the car park. £5 to park all day seems reasonable when there is so much forest to explore and enjoy!

This place is amazing, the walks/cycles are stunning.
The forest rangers have worked so hard and made the paths so good. Cycling for my boy was a breeze, he completed the whole route in 1 day!

Is it possible to cycle all the way around Kielder water on a road bike or would the North Shore section require an mountain bike/hybrid?

All the way round is c.26 miles.if you are fit then any bike will do it.the 'footpath' is compacted lime stone but is relatively smooth. A mountain bike is the best option with out doubt. My son ( at 29 years with a girlfriend completed it with plenty of stops and a picnic.go for it.

Yes there were 2 or 3 , you will need to purchase more if you are planning on using the dishwasher , I would suggest to buy them prior to arriving, hope that’s of some help

i wouldn't have thought they would have a christmas tree
if you are thinking of a group of you going for christmas, i would suggest you look at the larger houses in the area , and visit keilder as and when you want to visit. the lodges are not as big as you might expect , in hindsight i wish we had done that for 6 adults ,

Hi has anyone had experience of travelling to Kielder on the 694 bus which runs from Hexham on Tuesdays? It seems it is run by a charity, Adapt, and we’re wondering if it is available to the general public and if so what is the cost of the fare. Thank you.

Hi, we didn’t get a supermarket delivery but we definitely saw other lodges get them. I’m sure it was Tesco but best to check first. Hope this helps!
