Wild camped in the upper car park... well it actually cost us £12 overnight.
No facilities except 24 hour toilets down the hill which made it worthwhile.
Pub was closed unfortunately so had to cook in the campervan. All fine though.

We parked here to walk part of the stunning Lakeside Way around Kielder Water. We visited on a very sunny day in July. No refreshments available at all, there was a closed up food van, unsure when that may open. Pity, the car park was busy. The area is stunning with lots of walking and cycling opportunities. If you are visiting just make sure you bring your own refreshments

10th October and the Castle visitor centre cafe was closed for the winter!
Good clean toilets.
Drive around Kielder was amazing but some refreshments would have been nice as we carried on to the forest drive.

Nipped along as staying locally. We were a little disappointed in the whole experience. The views are spectactular and I’m sure the Zog trail would have added something but with no phone signal we were unsure of how you access the app whilst on the trail. We did the Minotaur Maze (little basic and isolated from the main area). We nipped into the Anglers Arms at the entrance but it was like a ghost function room. We then went to the castle but it was closed. Assuming it closes before 3pm on a Thursday so maybe explains it but was surprised by this. No sign of a coffee shop but again assuming this was part of the castle. I wouldn’t recommend this centre/castle unless coming along for the views/adventure trails for cycling/walking.

Didn’t visit the centre but we stopped on our bikes for a coffee and a bacon roll at the food van outside.
I ordered 2 bacon and fried egg rolls, 2 coffees and a chocolate bar. This came to £22. As I couldn’t see a menu I asked the lad for a breakdown of the prices as I felt it was rather steep and thought he perhaps had made a mistake.
Turns out he was correct and I was flabbergasted to be told that it was £5.50 for a bacon roll plus an extra £1.50 per fried egg. So a gran total of £14 for 2 rolls.
He didn’t even have a the decency to wear a balaclava
Total rip off for less than average food. Save your money and bring a picnic.

Took the bikes to go on the blue Osprey trail. The trail starts well with a good section of single track through the woods with a few mild technical features. However the route then just follows the forest roads for the rest of the first loop - approx 4 or 5 miles. The second half of the trail was a bit more single track which was also good and then 4 miles on the waterside path back to the castle.
The warden at the castle was doing everything from serving bacon butties from a temporary burger van outside the castle to looking after visitors in the information centre and doing a very good job of it!

Had a great visit, and good walk and enjoyed the silence and quite.
The walks are well signed and easy to follow. Recomend viaduct and south side. Also if you have time take the forest drive. £3 toll but really worth it.

The castle including the visitor centre and cafe are closed and likely to be so for a few years. The toilets are open and there is a refreshments van which serves excellent chips.
As the visitor centre wasn’t open, it was difficult to get any information on walking trails. The mountain bike shop was open and they gave us the only leaflet they had, but it wasn’t very detailed.
We managed to do a walk, but found that often at crucial junctions signs were absent or damaged, making finding your way difficult.
Also there is absolutely no mobile signal in the area, so if you are unlucky enough to have an accident you will not be able to call emergency services. The park authorities really should work with service providers to ensure it is possible to make emergency calls at least.
This is a beautiful area for walking and cycling, but the infrastructure is much worse that when we visited a number of years ago - we would have expected it to be better not worse over a period of time and to be up to 21st century standards.

They are saying that this is still closed due to Covid yet the other visitor centres at Kielder have reopened safely so feels like it's an excuse!
We stopped here whilst cycling Kielder Water and were hoping to visit the adventure play area. The signage is really poor making it hard to find and they really need to put in better play areas considering how many families visit.
The only good bit was the osprey nests on the monitors!

Turned up for the Gruffalo trail didn’t realise the castle would be closed but the toilets are open and there’s a snack van parked in front of it serving food and drinks.
There’s a Large car park with reasonable charges, campervans and motorhomes can park over night for £10.
It’s a great start for walking, hiking and bikes. All the trails are available on maps by the car park
Be careful if your satnav says to go along the Forrest Road. It’s a gravel track that cuts through the park rather than going round but only suitable for 4x4 and similar vehicles. We have winter tyres on our VW and made it through ok but lots of potholes and I did get a bit worried we may not make it to the other end on some bits 🤣
We’ll definitely be back and probably stay overnight to make the most of it as we have a campervan. But there are loads of campsites about and the Anglers Arms was only a few minutes walk away as well

No as it is not NationalTrust. You pay one charge and that allows you to park in all car parks around Kielder.
