The good part was that we had a contact named Kishen ph 7895860300 with whom we pre booked 4 mules and Kishen guided us thru all the formalities..registration, booking a mule, etc. making the whole headache getting from Sitapur to Gaurikund via different modes of transport a whole lot easier. He gave us excellent horses and good handlers. On reaching Kedarnath, if you look up, you can see Mahadev dancing in the mountain peaks but if you looked down, all you will see is rampant construction, too much crowd, long queues of people, 22,000 mules, gutter water flowing on way to temple, shoes everywhere outside temple, groups of people pushing and shoving and breaking the line, having to line up at 2 am and still waiting 5 hrs for darshan due to paid VIP line and private pujas getting preference, NO SECURITY CHECK, people carrying big backpacks inside temple, complete absence of police or temple authorities to manage the chaos, uninterested priests. Barely got a second inside for darshan as people were shoving so much. Mahadev must be disgusted. I definitely was. Why do humans always spoil places?

Even if you are very healthy & energetic then also you will regret why you have choosen treking because those khachhars will hit you at every other second & if you hired khachhar or pitthu or palki...then you will weather i will remain alive till my destination or not...so so horrible...kedarnath trek way has become hell by khachhars...believe me..

This review is written on behalf of my parents who visited the Kedarnath temple earlier this month. While it is difficult to compare a pilgrimage trip with a regular holiday, if I could attempt to define the overall experience in one word, it would be “mismanaged”.
The trip to the temple was a part of the famous “Char-Dham Yatra” in Uttarakhand. Prior registrations are necessary to take part in the same. However, this rule isn’t followed on ground. For every registered traveler, there were at least four unregistered ones leading to unimaginable crowds and chaos. The administration swung into action belatedly when hordes of unregistered tourists had already crowded the circuit. And what an amazing response they had to manage the crowd! Instead of checking the registration certificates, they resorted to crowd control and in fact, at one point, the CRPF personnel even pushed one elderly couple away.
The cherry on the cake was the priest at the temple – Nitin Shukla (disclosure: there could be an error in my parents’ recollection of the name). He took the puja packets from my parents inside the grabhgriha. As is the usual practice there, the puja packets contained some sindur, silver artefacts, and prasad. When he brought the packets back, the silver artefacts were missing.
While my parents are still content that they at least, could have a darshan of the deity unlike thousands of others who were ushered away because of the gross mismanagement, not getting some of their belongings back from one of the priests did leave a bitter aftertaste.

Siddhkedarnath Temple is a sacred and ancient pilgrimage site located in Uttarakhand. This temple is one of the most important temples of Hinduism and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Kedarnath Temple is located in the lap of the Himalayas, on the banks of the Mandakini River and is known for its unique natural beauty and religious significance. This spiritual experience is extremely important for the devotees. Kedarnath Dham is part of the Char Dham Yatra and every year thousands of pilgrims come here for viewing. The temple's history and architecture are also extremely attractive, making this site important from a religious and cultural point of view.

It is one of the most paramount locations for worshipers of Shiva. Kedarnath temple is one of the 12 Jyotir Lingams and is also the most important temple among the Panch Kedar (group of 5 Shiva temples in Garhwal Himalayas).
First, let's go to the history behind it
According to Hindu mythology, (though I hate the word mythology) the temple was built by the Pandavas. As per legends, after the great Kurukshetra war, the Pandavas wanted to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva to atone for their sins.
However, Lord Shiva was not pleased with them and refused to meet them. The Pandavas then followed him to the Himalayas, where he took refuge in the form of a bull, thus hiding himself in Guptakashi.
When Pandavas found him, Lord Shiva decided to take the form of a buffalo so that they couldn't recognize him. Seeing them coming closer Lord made a decision to become invisible by going underground. While doing that one of the five Pandavas, Bhima made a great effort to stop him by holding on to the legs and tail of the bull. Unfortunately, the Lord dived and vanished at that place leaving behind his hump from which 'Jyotirlinga' or light flickered and Lord Shiva appeared in his divine avatar.
It is said that after taking the blessings of the cosmic light, the Pandavas were exempted from their sins and Lord Shiva told them, “From now onwards, I will be present here as a triangular-shaped Jyotir Linga and by paying obeisance at Kedarnath, the devotees would attain piety"
From then onwards, a triangular-shaped rock is worshiped in the sanctum sanctorum of the temple.
Panch Kedar:
The hump reappeared at Kedarnath, the arms appeared in Tungnath, the navel appeared in Madhyamaheshwar, the face showed up at Rudranath and the hair and head appeared in Kalpeshwar. The Pandavas built temples at these five places for worshiping Shiva.
The current temple is believed to have been built by Adi Shankara in the 8th century CE. However, the temple has undergone several renovations over the centuries due to damage caused by natural disasters such as earthquakes and avalanches. The current structure is believed to have been built in the 19th century.
Timing: Generally, the temple opens in the last week of April or the first week of May and closes in the second week of November
We visited this in October, after the Monsoon season, that was great weather. There is Bhmshila rock and Adishankracharya Samadhi Sthal behind the temple.
Stay- better book in advance. Don't expect much facility due to harsh conditions.
Special Puja: There is an office near the temple, it opens at 5 PM, but if there is a rush, better be in line by 4 PM so that you can get a receipt. It's 5000/for 5 people and 1000 for an extra person. In one Parchi, you can register only 7 people.
The special puja starts at 11-12 at night and if there is no rush, you can easily get 10 minutes in 'Gribhgrih'
it was one of my best experiences of life, spending a good 5-6 minutes doing Puja. Never have I ever witnessed such a divine moment in my life. Jai Baba Kedar!

Hey..I'm prince I will tell you about some of the Kedarnath experiences that I have experienced there and the positive experiences that have been presented to me there. Ahm.. I went 6th July 2023. When it was Sawan season. And we actually completed the Kedarnath trek in rainy season. I and my three friends had gone, their names were Mohit and Shushant,I and Mohit, we were together because they are skinny. 😹 And Shushant was a little chubby type, But let me tell you about Kedarnath and tell you the truth, you will be honest and you will not be able to enjoy reading this and experience it by visiting there. 🤧🙂I also got that positive vibe and that's the trek, but if you go there you get so much power that you will also feel less tired. You can go there or take that positive vibe. ✨⛰️🍀

Honestly, one of the worst places where you see the worst of mankind. Mule owners beating the mules, making them smoke weed. Mules were so weak they needed rest but owners kept dragging them until they fell down to their death. And even then, they kept beating them. I saw one owner beat an innocent animal to death.

If you are going on flight take flight from Mumbai to dehradun, then take cab or bus from dehradun to rishikesh, then take bus from rishikesh to sonprayag,
Take a room there for night stay, start in the early morning for gaurikund by taking available vans .

Can we do uttarkhand char dhaam yatra in 6 to 8 days? Since i will be travelling with my parents who are senior citizens, then apart from the trek to Kedarnath, are there options like cable car or helicopter available? If yes from where do we book from?
Escrita el 5 de marzo de 2023
Link for helicopter booking is available on Uttrakhand tourism department. . Keep a track on booking start date. Almost all the tickets get sold out within minutes. So keep ur documents ready for uploading.
I didn't get tickets, moreover we all preferred tracking. There are no cable car available. Vehicle goes directly to Shri Badrinath. In Shri Kedarnath, u have other options like horses n Piththu. Book ur rooms in Shri Kedarnath well in advance from GMVN website if u plan to stay there. Rooms from Yatradham are also good and some of them are just nearby temple. I visited these both in October 2022. I stayed there 2 nights and had booked from both GMVN n Yatradham.
I am yet to visit Gangotri n Yamunotri. U can call 6355615660 for more details.
