The Ho Dynasty Citadel now has only a few ruins left, but there are temples, ancient houses, etc. You should join the tram tour because the tour guides are very cute, explain thoroughly and are super caring.

This citadel is very unique because it was build with only stones without mortar during a very short period of time, 3 months. The landscape is very beautiful. If I come back to visit it next time, I would love to take the bycicle tour to go around the area and discover other attractions nearby.

I'm told that the US government has funded the restoration of the largest gate to the citadel and it is quite nice to see. But, if you've seen other citadels - specifically the one in Hanoi, you might not be all that impressed. This citadel was build in the early 1400s (that in itself is pretty awesome.) But, the dynasty that built it, consisted of 2 kings and lasted only 7 years or something. Still, this is impressive especially if you consider the fact that the designer of this structure also designed (according to local sources) the Forbidden City in Beijing. That's possible as the royals who lived here when the dynasty fell to the Ming dynasty of China were taken back to China.
Anyway, there's a small museum which is worth a bit of time. There are guided tours though I think they are only available in Vietnamese. Within the walls, there are no structures remaining from the period of the citadel's glory. In fact, since this place was inscribed as a UNESCO world heritage site, there's been a great deal of controversy. According to UNESCO, Vietnam should stop the agricultural practices inside the enormous citadel as those practices likely destroy artifacts. The potential displacement of the farmers is creating anxiety.

胡朝の城塞とはベトナム北部のタインホア省で発掘された、15世紀胡朝時代に建てられた遺跡群。2011年に世界遺産（文化遺産）に登録された。胡朝は1400年～1407年のわずか7年間の王朝で、現在城門以外ほとんどの建造物は残っていない。にもかかわらず世界遺産に指定されたのは、その規模と建築技術の高さ故らしい。ハノイからの日帰りだと時間がかかり、見るものも少ないので残念感が残るでしょう。そのため観光客も少なく逆にそこが魅力でもあった。将来発掘が進むと人気化する可能性はあります。訪問時ニンビンに宿泊していてそこからは60㎞ほどの距離だったので見てきました。１㎞四方の城塞の中には田んぼがあり、地元民が日常的に往来する場で観光客は歩きません。ローカル感たっぷりで見て後悔はありませんでしたが、かなり玄人向けの観光施設と言えましょう

The few internet sources on this place mostly ask why this is a UNESCO site; having been here, I ask the same. I get its historical importance, but most of it is gone. On the day of my visit, even the iconic 3 arched gate showed only 2 arches as 1 was under repair. It is difficult to get to; I had to hire a driver and car, which was quite costly. But, because I wanted to tick off another UNESCO site off my list, I did the 3.5 hour (one-way) journey there. Wouldn't recommend it, unless you are into UNESCO sites.

Quần thể kiến trúc lớn, đã được trùng tu, nhưng điều mình thích nhất là ngắm những đoạn tường thành còn sót lại, bức tường đá được gắn kết đẹp và công phu, điều mà các kiến trúc sư và các kỹ sư xây dựn hiện đại cần tìm hiểu và học hỏi.

On s'est arreté ici après notre visite insolite à la réserve naturelle du Pu Hu, c'était vraiment une partie importante de l'histoire du Vietnam meme si ça restait seulement un grand rempart bien solide et intéressant

There are so many tour operators to organise this trip, try to search around. If not you can go there on your own by following Ho Chi Minh highway, The citadel is about 7km on the left handside

it depends on where you start your trip. If from Hanoi, there is about 4h driving, if from Nghe An, it's the same. So you should combine your visit with Puluong or Pumat trips. good luck
