2xCD entrance, children free. Short and nice tour, but the old machines all work on watermill power. Lots of scents and authentic machines. Combined with Bellmond Estate and Salphur springs.

We really enjoyed the tour we did at the River Antoine Estate Rum Distillery. We learnt a lot about the history and were shown around. All the processes were explained to us by the guide from sugar cane to bottled run. The tasting was fun but the rum was undrinkable at 69% and 75% and was far too strong.

Great tour of the distillery. We learned so much and appreciated the history and focus of the staff. The tastings were nice, as well. Perfect tour and setting. We highly recommend!

We loved this tour. Our guide ( I wish I'd gotten her name) was perfect--really gave great information in a concise easily understandalbe and enthusiastic way. What a fascinating place-- making sure to preserve tradition by doing everything old-school and also employing 90 people in the process! The rum was great. Only wish we went when the machine was running-- that machine goes back to the 1800s! Wow.

Our ship excursion group was given a 30 minute tour of this rum distillery by an employee who explained each step in the rum making production. This is not a slick facility and after seeing the sugar liquid being fermented I wondered if I even wanted to taste the final product.

What I did find interesting was seeing the long stems of the sugar cane going up a narrow conveyor belt outside the building from which it was shredded and grounded up, with its juices being led off in pipes to large indoor concrete storage containers for a fermentation period. Piles of sugar cane ready to be processed were at the foot of this conveyer belt while a huge pile of dried up shredded sugar cane could be seen nearby. Inside the building with the huge concrete containers, we walked up steps so we could see the liquid inside those containers which was not a pretty sight. Once again outside, the guide gave a detailed description of the boilers as we stood by a pile of wood fuel used to feed those boilers. The distilled rum was bottled by hand inside the area where we tasted the rum. All one needs is a sip as the end product is just too strong and goes down burning. Bottles of rum were available to buy. This product isn't exported and is sold only on the island.

The guide was very accommodating when asked if we could taste the raw sugar cane and everyone got a short piece to suck and chew on. The guide did point out the water wheel which makes this the oldest working water-propelled distillery in Grenada. There was a sugar field surrounding the distillery and workers were clearing a small section of it. I didn't see any large machinery so perhaps sugar cane remains harvested by hand. It didn't seem to matter to me that we visited the distillery during the workers' lunch break; I didn't miss the noise of machinery.

Visited as part of P&O excursion having been to Belmont Estate first off.

I have to say this place was brilliant. The way they make the rum is proper “old school” way
The smell of sugar cane being processed was really sweet.
The guide we had was informative and explained the whole process from sugar cane to bottled rum.

The tasting at the end was great although I only tried the 69% version and even that was strong so I dread to think what the 75% was like!

If you want to see how rum is made the "old school" way, this is the visit for you. No technology in use here! Make sure to take the tour in order to get the full eduction on the process of how rum is made. The guide was very nice and informative. This is a good visit before or after a visit to the Belmont Estate, as they are close together.

We had a lovely visit to River Antoine. Be sure to take the tour and visit during the week (but not lunchtime!) to get up and close to the daily rum making happening in front of you. There are no set tour times – they take groups as they come – and our tour guide was kind, informative, and genuine. Please note – if you’re driving yourself, there is not a sign on the road for the driveway. Take the driveway that goes alongside what looks like a stone building and keep taking the road back. You’ll find it!
