We have been here many times and it's always a stop for us with showing friends around STJ to get a glimpse of what went on back in the day. The bees were active the day we were there, would be nice if the park service was able to treat the bees so you can walk around more.

This was an interesting, beautiful, and poignant place to visit. My husband and I walked up the stairs to get to the stone ruins of the sugar processing buildings and slave residences. Plaques around the property describe what you are seeing. It really makes you think about the hardship of the people who were enslaved there, next to the ocean views. I doubt they got to enjoy them. I hope their descendants have better lives. Definitely visit this place to get a sense of the history of St. John.

We were on a tour around St. John and this was one of our stops. It was very interesting. "Mr. Bill', a volunteer was very friendly and helpful.

Its reasonably well preserved from the original construction. Lots of history here. Was a bee alert issued for the area (April). Nice overlook of Lenister Bay.

Amazing quick historical trip. We parked below and took wooden stairs up, but you can drive and drop off right at the site. Signs are maintained and have great info. Easy to do with little kids!

This was an easy, picturesque walk with signs to tell us about what we saw, for a self-guided tour..

My college-age kids, after spending a week on St. John visiting various ruins (Reef Bay Trail, Cinnamon Bay Ruins) and amazing beaches, both said that visiting Annaberg was the most impactful and memorable experience of the trip.

There were a handful of volunteers there who helped explain (with easy-to-follow diagrams) how the windmill was used to crush the sugar cane, and then how it was boiled down in successive vats, and then transferred to trays to crystalize. We learned facts about the plantation - how enslaved people did the grueling work to terrace the hillside, plant, grow, and harvest the cane before processing it. We went to the "cook house" and tried some sweet dry bread that was a staple for the enslaved workers, and we met "Bush," an islander with an encyclopedic knowledge of local plants and herbs he tends in the old garden (where the slaves had to grow all their own food). I was a little skeptical that soursop leaves could be used for anything from alleviating swelling/pain to curing cancer (like he said), so I looked it up on WebMd when I got home. All the knowledge of folk remedies that had been passed down to him has now been confirmed by science. So cool. I highly recommend stopping here! The ruins are interesting, but the information is what's most important.

I can't thank these volunteers enough for sharing their knowledge!

Annaberg was a short drive from Maho Bay beach and was a nice place to visit because it had ruins that were in fairly good shape and was situated above Leinster Bay which allowed for great views and photos. The ruin of the windmill was in very good shape and the pathways around the plantation were very easy to walk. I am not sure if a person with a wheelchair can access the area because there were several wooden steps to get up to it from the main entrance area below. Parking was not a problem for us, each of the three times we parked there we were able to find a spot; morning, noon, and early afternoon.

This is an easy and quick visit before or between beaches hops. A history lesson with beautiful views. It gets HOT fast so go in the early morning before the sun rays (and bees which seemed to be abundant)!

We went to this place before heading to the beach and were glad we did. It is beautiful. The signs were helpful but if we go back I will check to see if we can get a knowledgeable guide. There is a trail below that some people we met were taking to a beach. We wen to Francis Beach after and were very lucky to get a parking spot.
