Westerhall hasn't started doing tours again since covid. Still we just turned up and they said we could walk round the grounds. The grounds are beautiful and really interesting to walk round the old ruins of the sugar plantation there. Although without a guide we didn't know really what we were looking at. Worth stopping if you are passing or specifically want a particular westerall rum but not going out of the way. It would be great I imagine to go on a tour if they start again.

Our tour guide Arthur was welcoming and answered all the questions our small group - German and Canadian visitors - had.
A tour of the historic grounds, the museum with some interesting artifacts and a rum sampling at the end were well worth the $7 EC per person.

We drove to Westerhall to discover that there were no tours that day. However, we had a young male employee who took the time to show us around the the grounds, give us a history of the estate, and take us through the museum. A lovely female employee allowed us to do a rum tasting ( we bought a bottle of 10XO, which is great!) Kindness like this is remembered and appreciated. Thanks!

Our tour guide had a fantastic knowledge of local history from colonial French times to current day. He even discussed what was up next for Westerhall Estate.
The cost of the tour is quite reasonable at $7 EC ($3 US) per person. It takes just over an hour, depending on questions you ask.
If possible, don't go when there is a large cruise ship in port. This tour is best taken without throngs of visitors. Our advice is to call the office to ensure the regular tour guide is working on your intended day/time.
This tour is not just about rum. You will learn how the estate has gone through many phases of its own history.
It is possible to get to Westerhall Estate by bus. You can catch the number 2 from the St. George's terminal. Make sure you take the #2 going to Grenville, not Woburn. If you ask the driver in advance, he can drop you right at the gate to the estate, or walk about 100 meters from the bus stop.
Try not to go on a rainy day. Much of the history is about the estate, and there is a short walk that can be wet/muddy if it has rained.
There is an eclectic museum on the estate that offers a perspective on a variety of historical topics. It is included as part of the tour.
The tour closes with a tasting of the various rums that Westerhall produces. Of course, there is an option to purchase any of the rums, in various sized bottles, even a few that are too large for travel.
The staff are very friendly.
We have happily recommended this tour to several of our friends.

Originally I did not want to visit as Westerhall does not produce, nor ages the rums but mixes them - however I by accident acquired their small 10XO at the gas station the very first day we arrived and since I tried it I put all my "beliefs" aside and decided that it's on :)
The grounds are very nice, the tour includes some info on the history of the estate, some history of Grenada and the future of Westerhall Rum in Grenada - very nice and considering it's $3 usd per person and that you get to sample all their rums at the end it's probably the best deal on all of the Caribbean islands I had a pleasure to visit :)
TIP: it's an easy 20-25 minutes drive east from the Grand Case area, about 30 minutes straight from the airport - it's worth it, everyone will find something here
TIP: they accept credit cards for rum, cash for tour but their internet isn't best so make sure to have some cash as I bet you will end up taking some rum home with you - the 10XO is definitely the best rum on the island and very high on my fav list now :)
TIP: 10XO large is $25 USD and small is $8USD - at the airport the prices are almost identical FYI

At $3USD for a brief history and rum tasting one cannot complain. Our guide was knowledgable with regard to the historical rum making process, the estate and future plans to bring holistic rum making back to Grenada. We tasted four different rums from a 69% proof eye watering white to a 15yr aged, no caramel colouring dark rum. We settled on the 5yr dark rum, the spent nearly 30mins talking runs of the world, steering clear of the 80% proof they send to Carriacou! Oh and there is a museum with a rather eclectic collection of items not all Rum related.

We weren’t expecting a long drawn out tour but were pleased with the history and future plans of this Estate. The rum tasting was interesting as no one rum is the same! Knowledgeable guide; interesting history; optimistic future developments and various rums to taste all for just 7ECD per person.

Keep your expectations down regarding a tour and tasting - very small and tiny plastic cups. However the rum is special and can’t be purchased in the states. So for that reason alone it’s worth going to taste and purchase some to take home. The people we met were pleasant, knowledgeable and welcoming.

While the grounds of the Westerhall Estate are beautiful, you are looking very much at a historical site where rum was once made. However, the rum they do sell is very good, very well priced, and the percentage of alcohol is allowed to be brought onto your flight home (something that you need to watch out for when bringing home rum from Grenada).
The tour with Arthur was short and sweet with some good photo opportunities and rum tasting at the end. We were the only ones there at the time, I could see how having several tour groups there at one time would give someone a different experience though, it's not the largest place.
