Wonderful hike to a lovely waterfall. Very close to the main area in Banff, yet without the crowds. Highly recommend. You can also bike there, but you should have a lock to lock your bike after the bike trail ends. We do not recommend going in the cave at the beginning of the trail unless you have your park pass that gets you in free of charge.

Easy hike. The first part of the hike has no views; you're basically walking on the road. After that, it opens up to beautiful views of the river/lake. Spotted a few chipmunks along the way. After the lake, continue on a while and you'll reach the canyon. There's a short section where you need to find the way around the boulders which was fun, and then there'll be a loop trail which has some views.

This was the least traveled of all the trails that we visited in Banff and Jasper National Parks. It was an easy walk along the Bow River on a paved trail. At the end of the paved trail, there is the canyon trail hike. The canyon is a smaller version of Johnston Canyon but without a single person in sight. We enjoyed the solitude and beauty of this canyon.

Really relaxing and scenic walk, first hour or so on concrete but next to the beautiful, cristal blue Bow river! Tons of Mosquitoes, so definitely bring Bug spray

Pretty area, kind of off the beaten path in comparison to some of the other major attractions and hiking trails in Banff. We stumbled upon this trail as a plan B after arriving to the Borgeau parking lot, only to find it full. We ended up hiking this trail to Sundance Canyon instead. Easy to follow path. My only complaint is that the mosquitoes here were horrid, even after spraying with deet repellent. Trail took about 3 hrs to and from the parking lot. We did carry bear spray, as we had been advised to do so, and had already seen about 5 in the area prior to this hike. The trail is also used for horseback riding tours, so be prepared to dodge horse poop along the way.

Surprisingly, this trail was almost totally empty when I visited. It is a fairly lengthy walk up a relatively (and we're talking by Banff standards here) unspectacular walk up a paved road so maybe that has something to do with it. Nonetheless, it is a worthy little hike and easily accessible as it is just on the outskirts of town. As it was berry season at the time I waited at the trailhead for a few other hikers to arrive so we could make up a loose group to reduce the chance of a bear encounter. If you aren't up for the whole loop just make your way up the canyon for the first km or so then turn around and come back, you'll see the best part. The rest is lovely too, all the more so in its relative emptiness, but it's essentially just a walk in the woods.

This hike requires a bit of a hike along a paved path just to get to. It takes the better part of an hour to walk from the parking lot to the trail head but well worth the time. This trail winds through a deep canyon with a fast moving stream running most of the way through it. The views are outstanding and ever changing as you wander up snd down through the canyon. The walk to the trail head is longer than the hike through the canyon but dont let that stop you from enjoying this beautiful area.

I wish we had bikes! Most of the path there is paved and not especially scenic, and we kept getting passed by bikes. There are some lovely views, eventually, of the river and of course, the canyon, but a lot of it is just a paved path through trees with clouds of mosquitoes. On the inside of the paved path is a muddy muck of horse tracks and manure. The canyon hike was beautiful, but my kids were bummed once we completed that loop and then had to go all the way back down the paved path. We tried the Marsh Trail on the way back for variety, but it was nearly impassable with horse manure and muddy tracks.

When the person at the visitor's booth realized we were on bikes, he strongly recommended visiting Sundance Canyon. Said there would be no crowds (correct). The bike ride was 10 km round trip. It was an easy bike ride to the end where we parked our bikes and then walked the last bit to the waterfalls. It was nice but not spectacular but a great add to our day of biking around town.
Note: Be sure to put on bug spray (and bring a small bottle with you too) as there was lots of mosquitos.
