I read the one negative review from 2016 about disabled access and I was sad to hear of that visitor’s experience. I hope they have remedied all the concerns of the disabled reviewer. That visitor deserved refunds and apologies! When I visited I saw the staff help a visitor use the chair lift. The acoustics and visibility are super. The light and sound tech was excellent, too, neither too loud or soft, and I saw jazz fusion/funk on one night, and solo acoustic and Django style hot jazz on another night. I would go back! However, having read the disabled reviewer’s piece, if I ever go to a venue with a disabled person, I will ask copious questions in advance to assure a trouble free visit to any venue, before I go.... because many older, converted spaces do not have ideal adaptations for accessibility, for understandable reasons, so I will be proactive.

It does not look like much today from the outside but this church have seen a lot. Built in 1865, it is one of the oldest religious buildings in Montreal.
According to Wikipedia: The Gesù witnessed the first "electric candle " lit in Canada in 1878.
It used to be Collège Sainte-Marie chapel where the Society of Jesus would support education. The church of Gesù is actually the only portion of the College still standing today. The walls of the college remains and a commemoration of the Society of Jesus are just outside the church.
The site is considered - Historic sites and monuments board of Canada.

Great intimate space. Seats are nicely spaced out and good angle. Close to stage. Sound is good. Bar is expensive wih small plastic cups/glasses. Could be a few more tables/seats in waiting area. I would go back. Kids are welcome.

I went to Le Gesu to see Jim Norton during the Just For Laughs Festival. The space was underneath the church (which we didn't visit since it was after hours). It was comfy and was a more intimate setting - I didn't feel like there was a bad seat in the house. It was great for stand up!

Built by the Jesuit priests over 150 years ago, the Chapelle Gésu is a rare architectural gem right in downtown Montréal at 1200 Bleury Street, near Place Desjardins. I was attracted to it as there was a sandwich board on St. Catherine Street informing passersby of an open door event.
Once inside. I marvelled at the restauration work done on this beautiful building. Bernard, the lay person responsible for greeting tourists and visitors provided a lot of backgorund about the church, the construction and restauration work and as well about the Jesuit religious community. Bernard is charming, informed and so very polite in his delivery of all the information you may want to hear.
Worth the 1 hour visit. If you wish, you may make a donation or buy some of the products on sale near the entrance.
The one drawback is the steep stairwell to get into the building. Not easy for mobility impaired folks.

In May this year I emailed Gesu, informing them that I am disabled I use a crutch to walk painfully and slowly and I am unable to climb up and down steps or staircases due to my disability . I also asked Gesu if the venue was disabled accessible and I received an email assuring me that it was. So I bought tickets for three performances. The first performance was on 3 July when Iarrived I informed a female member of staff and asked if I could use the stairlift to go up the steps at the entrance. At first she said it was just for wheelchair users but then she allowed me to use it. Unfortunately when I went to Gesu for the second performance on the following night the same female member of staff said that the stair lift wasn't working however that wasn't correct. She wouldn't allow me to use it because she said it was dangerous. I then had to shuffle up the steps on my bum this is because attempting to climb steps is very difficult and extremely painful for me. I then spoke to 2 male members of staff at the ticket office and informed them of my difficulties. One of them repeatedly said that insurance would not allow me to use the stairlift because it was just for wheelchair users andhe seemed more concerned about that than my needs. I started to explain why and how it is difficult and painful for me to climb stairs/steps The other male member of staff just laughed. I then complained about him laughing at me and exclaimed that none of them really cared they just seemed more concerned about insurance. I was very humiliated and upset by this experience. Furthermore I was in a lot of pain because of the difficulty of going up the stairs even though early on through the performance I had to leave to get some water to take some more painkillers unfortunately the pain was quite severe. I asked for a refund because I did not want to repeat this experience for the next performance, this was refused. The female member of staff offered to help me downsteps at the end of the performance but I declined and instead hopped down the steps.
I believe that the 2 male members of staff acted callously and cruelly towards me; particularly as they offered no sympathy just repeatedly stating that insurance would not allow me to use the stairlift. I also believe that Gesu misled me regarding disability access if I had known that there were steps and I would not be able to use the stairlift I would not have booked any performances there.
I gave my ticket for the last performance on the next evening I had booked to someone else because I did not want to repeat this painful and humiliating experience.
My advice is DO NOT GO TO GESU IF YOU ARE DISABLED AND WITHOUT A WHEELCHAIR. SOME STAFF MEMBERS ARE CRUEL AND CALLOUS TOWARDS PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES.
BOOK TICKETS AT PLACE DES ARTS WHICH IS FULLY DISABLED ACCESSIBLE AND WHOSE STAFF ARE VERY KIND AND HELPFUL.
THIS IS THE ONLY NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE I HAVE HAD IN MONTREAL THE MAJORITY OF THE TIME PEOPLE HAVE BEEN KIND AND HELPFUL
