Simply beautiful mountains and a super large lake. The visitor center is a must. They have digital exhibits and the staff are super friendly and helpful. The gift shop is small, but have a lot of Alaskan crafts. The bathrooms are super clean.

We drove the edge of Kluane National Park which is located along the Alaska highway and did a hike. The park has beautiful mountain views. Hikes of different levels are available. To see further into the park (including Mount Logan), you are unable to travel by car. The only way to view Mount Logan is by plane or hiking there. While we enjoyed what we saw, we wish there was more, though we understand as you cannot force a mountain to move to a different location.

After a long trip on the Yukon river we decided to test ourselves on the most difficult trek of the state : the Donjek Trail !
Reputation well deserved !!
8 days of immersion into a deep and intense nature, following only map & gps, as guests on bear territory !
Thanks again to Park Canada team for their time & advice !

Make sure you go to the visitor centres before visiting. The Parks Canada staff can't do enough to help and will advise on routes and they have a really good park map which you can buy for $12. If going to Kaskawulsh glacier allow a few days and make sure everybody in your group is reasonably fit.

An absolutely beautiful national park that is 80% glacier! Located in the Yukon, the park receives only a few thousand tourists a year. Jagged peaks, lakes, glaciers, and forests abound. Something for everyone to enjoy. The landscape is rugged and unspoiled. So much opportunity to try something new and see a new piece of the world. Amazing! Especially on a blue sky day!

While we didn't have the luxury of flying over the world's largest non-polar icefield and landing near Mt. Logan, our experience in the park was absolutely memorable. The drive along the Alaska Highway itself was beautiful on its own.
We wanted to explore the Thechal Dhal visitor centre but looks like it was closed. We actually came in at the last day it was supposed to open according to the Parks Canada website. So that's surprising.
We hiked a few trails such as Rock Glacier, Kokanee, Soldier's summit and Sheep Creek. The view at Sheep Creek trail is unparalleled. As you go up that trail, don't forget to look back, and especially around 1/3 of the way up when you're above the tree line and you get this epic view of the Slims River valley. Very well recommended!
We also met a really nice park ranger while we were picnicking at the parking lot and to our surprise, there are no entrance fees. We were concerned we would be ticketed for not paying, but the ranger gladly explained day users don't need to pay and the permits on some vehicles were overnight and multi-day hikers. One great feature for the Northern parks.

Kluane has something for everyone. If you're looking for a picnic spot next to a beautiful lake, it has these. If you're looking for interesting hikes, it has those too. And if you're looking for high adventure, this is the place to come. We were in the Yukon only for a short while, but wanted to get to a mountain summit, so we chose the King's Throne hike. For the picnickers, you can settle down next to Kathleen Lake. For the hikers who want a bit of exercise, you can go to the King's Throne, a nice cirque below the high alpine peaks, and get some nice views. Although the wind was a howling, we put on our warm hats and gloves, and forged on another few kilometres to the high summit of King's Throne Peak, with it's magnificent views. At the hotel we staying at, the lady said that other guests had tried the summit and not made on the day we did, so this summit is not for everybody. Kluane has been on our bucket list forever, and now we have done it!

There are lots of trails. It is located at Haines Junction, which is a beautiful little town at the edge of Canada. There is solitude. The scenery is breathtaking. Mosquitos are big and feisty.

This national park includes the highest mountain in Canada, Mount Logan. There are gorgeous mountain views even from the highway, as well as rewarding hikes at a variety of levels. Visit the Canada Parks office to check on bears and other hazards before heading out on the trail.

Do you know about a good tourist agency to visit Kluane? Or can I go by myself. Is my first time there.

Hi , we are planning to spend a weekend in Haines junction and explore Kluane national park one day. Is it possible for us to drive around the park by ourselves or do we have to go with a tour company necessarily?
Escrita el 4 de agosto de 2019
It would depend on what you are planning to do, there are some easy walks/hikes you could do on your own.

I'm interested in backpacking the Cottonwood Trail. But, while it's almost a loop, it's not quite, with a significant 15 or so miles between the start and end where the trail meets the road at either end. It seems to be a somewhat popular trail, I can't imagine most people add a day to the trip hiking 15 along the road. Has anyone done this route? Is there some other option to get from the finish back to the start of the trail without walking 15 miles of road? Thanks for any suggestions!

Hello. I will be in the Yukon on September 1-5, 2016. I would like to go hiking at Kluane National Park for one or two days. Is there anyone here who is planning a hike for no more than two days within the dates above? If so, contact me please. I am looking for a hiking partner ( or partners) for safety reason. Cheers, Dulciano.

Please make sure you get bear spray and make noise while on the trail; bells are utterly useless. I was there in July with my husband and we hiked on our own and there was no problem. However the bears might be more active now as winter approaches.

Hi, we're thinking of visiting Kluane National Park sometime next year and were wondering if the hiking trails are safe to do on your own or would you recommend a guide? Did you feel safe on the trails or were you constantly concerned about grizzly bears? As far as distance goes, we'd just be doing day hikes say 4-6 hours long. Thanks for the input.

Hello Annette
We hiked on of the 5km trails(one way) last August and really enjoyed it. My wife and I are both 50ish. The scenery was incredible and we had great weather.
My wife didn't notice the plaque commemorating a woman killed on the trail until after we finished. Some poor gal was killed by a bear on the trail a number of years ago. So, while my wife was pretty concerned about that, I was not.
We humans have left so little space for other top predators that we deserve to be eaten occasionally. Now I write this rather flippantly of course, but I will never support the killing of an endangered creature like a grizzly bear because of human intrusion.
You need to follow all the guidelines the park provides when hiking in Grizzly country. We had bear spray with us and were careful to make some noise on a regular basis, so I think we were pretty safe. Hiring a guide would probably add to your comfort as far as safety goes, so I guess that's something your group needs to decide.

I am flying in to Whitehorse but no rental cars are available to get me to Haines Junction and Kluane. Is there any bus transportation, even just to Haines Junction?
Escrita el 21 de julio de 2015
I'd ask to be placed on a cancellation list as I find it hard to believe that you weren't able to get something from Budget. If you want to go bigger and have something to camp in try Cannadream. I believe that Subaru also rents cars.
