Popped in for some pre- dinner cocktails . Unfortunately it is quite a small place in the cellar vaults with lots of nooks and crannies so we had to go upstairs. It was fine though we ordered our cocktails in the lounge and sat on a huge very comfy sofa. The cocktails were potent and after our meal we returned for more. The bar was still busy and no room to sit so we just sat in the lounge again. Had a fabulous Coffee Martini. Delicious

My husband spotted this online and took us for a surprise drink.
Aviation themed 1940's bar in the Abbey cellars below the Angel hotel. Really well done out, a cracking cocktail and lovely ambience. Just a very interesting place to go, a steady stream of people in and out, good service from the staff. Thank you!

Called in for a drink and came across this amazing bar downstairs. Network of old tunnels. Lovely cool place to sit. Extensive drinks menu and friendly barman on hand.

We've been here a number of times over the years and usually enjoyed it however last night was poor. Ordered and paid for four cocktails at the bar and was told they'd be brought to the table. After 25 mins of no drinks went to investigate, when we found someone they said that the guy who took our order had gone home but they'd be right over. Then someone came over took the order for the second time but they still didn't turn up for another 15 mins. Then when they did they were the most unimaginative, watery creations we've ever seen. Worst cocktail we've ever had ever in bury st ed's. At this point we'd taken 45 mins to get to this point and with the disorganisation being as it was couldn't see the point in complaining. It was all a real shame and a long way from where it used to be.

Visited to check out possible venue for a birthday party. Me and a friend ordered two drinks, then when the bar man told us how much I with a smile said I think you’ve only charged us for one drink, his reaction was “well why are you both holding bank cards then” he obviously thought we was paying separate, the bar man was aggressive and rude. I did speak to the manager who was very good and offered us a free drink (to which we refused). Please train your staff! The other bar man was very nice and friendly I must add.

The cocktail menu features some standards which may not enthuse those out for the exotic. The atmosphere however is top notch and from the leather wingbacks to the burlap covered couches, this place gives the feel of a back room decorated by post-war cargo pilots.

We have visited the Wingspan Bar on numerous occasions and it has always been a great experience with amazing cocktails which were quite unique and even though expensive you could justify spending the money. It has been a year since we visited and what a change, so very disappointed. We had to wait 15 mins to be served at the bar and then a further 35 mins for our drinks. We all ordered a different cocktail and again we couldn't belive what we were being served. Drab cocktails which tasted awful and looked and tasted like something you would buy from a cheap chain of pubs where you could buy one get one free! we did plan on returning to the bar for a post dinner cocktail, needless to say that didn't happen! As people who really enjoyed the experience on previous occasions we will definitely not be returning again.

Our cocktail are all made freshly as ordered so sometimes there can be a small waiting time on these. We have just relaunched our Cocktail menu so do come back and try the new menu.

Well we thought this was meant to be a classy place, we were fooled. Very expensive drinks, drunk people about using foul language and very slow service as short of staff. Not really classy at all. £8 a drink for that. Lovely atmosphere in the lounge area up top though.

We live here in Bury St Edmunds so some might say we are biased. We're suckers for the history our lovely town offers.
We'd heard about the wingspan and the thought of having a beer in the old cellars was enough to entice us.
This is not signposted and perhaps under promoted but we're not complaining. Had the place to ourselves on a Wednesday night
Opens at 6 and is worth a visit. Glass of wine and a beer, 8 quid. That's fair I say.
The decor is lovely and the atmosphere pleasant. The old cellars are a treat.
Definitely returning and recommend to visitors to this great town of ours.
Toilets are in the main first floor lounge, ask the friendly staff and you'll soon find them.
All round great place. Good work Angel Hotel!

My wife and I have been wanting to visit this place for a while now, as we have been recommended here by family. On Friday the 9th Feb we took the opportunity for my wife’s birthday to have a few pre dinner cocktails and drinks in their basement bar, which is an excellent use of space with plenty of character. As there are no taps for beer in the downstairs bar, we had to purchase our beer from the main bar.
My father in law drinks his beer, where he can, out of a handled glass. Upon requesting such a handled glass from the barman, he was promptly told “this is not a spit and saw dust establishment”. This was both insulting and rude as drinking from such a glass is a customers personal preference and not in any way an insult to the establishment.
We all enjoyed our visit to the Angel apart from this insult from that member of staff and sadly has put us off returning there.
