Make sure you have strong footwear as it's quite rocky and in the wet weather it's slippy.
It's obviously very hilly.
We found a pay as you park £1.00 per hour. There are no toilets at the car park.

My daughter and I took on this walk yesterday and what a walk! We did the loop walk which started with a steep climb (I must admit I started to wonder what I’d signed up too!) but then it took us up some lovely woodland walks, some further really steep climbs where we nearly gave up (tbh) but we kept going and when we reached the top the view was worth it,. We walked back down to the car park following the more popular path, encouraging youngsters on their way up to keep going xx aching today but so pleased we did it.

The Wreking in Shropshire has been on my to do list for a long, long time, passing close by on the old A5 and later the M54 I eventually today decided to go.
Packed a few refreshments, suitable clothes and shoes and took the dogs to what I expected to be a well sorted tourist attraction.
Well its nothing of the sort, the local borough council that ironically have Wrekin in their name have done nothing to produce any kind of pleasant experience to visiting the area.
Next to no car parking, the lanes are very poorly signed posted and the hedgerows are full of weeds, nettles and stingers that make walking past in some parts a challenge to not get scratched or stung.
There is ZERO facilties there, nothing, the signage for newcomers is pitiful and yes agreed that the views are spectacular from the top, breath taking in fact, but the lack of any involvement by the local tourist board / council is blantantly obvious, I guess as there is no entrance fee the powers to be are just not interested which is shame on them, so been there done it and never to return.

The Wrekin car park payment machines rely on the your mobile phone having reception, which they won't, so you can't pay for your ticket as they don't take cash. Park on the verges in a safe position off the road and the parking attendants will still give you a ticket.

Considering the size of the Wrekin, it's not that easy to find; there is little to no local signage, especially in the nearby town of Telford. The access footpath to the north face footpath is also not easy to see or find. It's steep and quite hard work to the top; for someone of average fitness with a couple of short rests, it will take around 40 minutes. When you arrive at the top, the views are stunning, but don't go on a windy or wet day; I think that would be a different experience.
PLEASE DON'T FOLLOW ANY POSTCODES SUGGESTED ON TRIP ADVISOR BY OTHER REVIEWS, AS IT IS NOT CLOSE TO THE WREKIN FOOTPATH and places you on the M54!!!
THE BEST WAY TO LOCATE THE NORTH FACE WALK, IS TO USE WHAT 3 WORDS, AND THEN SET IT TO NAVIGATE THROUGH WHICH EVER SAT NAV YOU USE.

The climb from the south side is steep but from the car park not too bad and the view from the top makes the climb worthwhile.

Tough walk up, if travelling up the south end, would recommend taking it slow. Very much worth it however, as the views are remarkable. Also lots of wildlife we saw 5 dear run across us when heading a field by the Wrekin.

This was the first time I had climbed the wrekin with my family and the first time since I was young. I did a bit of research and found out the Car park is just off the M54 at junction 7. When you park up there is a machine but it wants you to pay online. We used the machine and paid £4 for 12 hours as we didn’t know how long it would take. You could park in the road just before and I believe that would be free but we didn’t realise. Having parked, we set off. It is quite steep at times and thankfully it was dry as it was still a little slippy especially for young children. The cafe half way up has closed. It would of been great to stop there on the way up or down for a drink. It took about 90 minutes for us to reach the top with us stopping a few times and the views were spectacular. There was a nice sundial at the top showing you in which direction different places were. I do feel this area should be celebrated much more than it is. There was some information about it being used in Roman and Saxon times as a village community but that was it. Overall I would definitely go again but probably not in the winter with little ones.

Litter everywhere. Can hear the motorway. Ruined by Brummies and locals who have no respect for nature.

Are the people in the half way house the people that own the Wrekin/land my nan and Granddad have lived in Wellington all their lives they are both 80 they would love to go up the Wrekin just one more time. Sadly their health isn't very good as they can't walk if I was to offer money to the owner could they take my grandparents up to the top and back down again via car? We would be there obviously is this something I can arrange?

Do you need proper walking shoes for this walk and are there good paths?
Escrita el 12 de agosto de 2018
advise decent shoes, very defined path plus small paths to explore

My mum is 88 and has little sight. She hasn't been up wrekin for many years. She would love a revisit. I think that, taking our time, she could walk from half way up to the top.
Is there any time when vehicles are allowed access to give disabled visitors a helping hand?
Escrita el 23 de junio de 2018
Hi sorry we only went up the Wrekin once but the guy at the halfway house was super helpful..maybe you could try there first before taking mum up?..good luck! And I hope you get her up there 😀

are there any cows or sheep grazing on the wrekin? taking my dog up and shes never seen live stock before...
Escrita el 10 de enero de 2018
There shouldn't be - it's mostly woodland.
Depending on your access route, some of the footpaths cross fields where there's a slight chance of livestock, but it's mostly arable farming around the foot, and if you're just walking up any of the main routes you'll have no trouble.

Can you take the car half way up?
Escrita el 30 de noviembre de 2017
The man who lives half way up drives his car up there, however, there is a farm gate across the track at the bottom and I didn’t notice if it was locked or not

How long does it take to get to the top and is there paths to follow? :-)
Escrita el 23 de junio de 2017
path to the top is for vehicles going to tv mast so easy to follow and lots of other ways if you have a map. average time is 40 minutes. allow a bit more for stops.
