This bookstore is closing soon so it was cool to get to see it now, very tight walkway but I’m sure many people enjoy seeing such old books! Not what I was expecting but still nice

there is seriously many many many books. The owner is a nice guy, I think he was drunk when we arrived but it’s worth a visit

Amateur book collector and bored on vacation so dropped in to see what we could find on a rare rainy afternoon...it is an experience (and was closed in classic Spanish fashion without signage in the middle of the day so we waited 45 minutes for him to reopen), rows of books piled up with minimal organization. Crusty owner pointed us in the direction of the paperbacks but I couldn't find anything that fit what I wanted.
Biggest problem...after 5 minutes in the shop my airways started reacting to either mold, cat piss or just damp so we left.
Said "Thank you!" on the way out to be polite....he responded with "for what?"..."for letting us look around even though we didn't find anything" "snort".
kinda emblematic of the whole thing.

Ignore those that struggle with the disorganisation, rudeness, eccentricity. It’s one of the only shops left of its time and if you grew up on Black Books, Harry Potter, Discworld or Narnia you will absolutely love it. it has an ethereal quality I have never experienced in any other shop in my 20 years of travelling.
Yes it’s a disorganised maze. yes it’s a tobacco stained mess. yes the owner is eccentric and often rude, invariably shouting at passing students on their phone or smoking inside the shop. But... As an experience I recommend it to all. I hope to be back before it closes one day.

As an Antique dealers son (My Dad is the same age as Rodney)
I was full of amazement when i first walked down yet another beautiful Palma terrace only to stumble across Rodney (one day out of lock down by the way)
.......anyway to cut a long story short , Rodney is Marmite (if you do not know what Marmite is please Google it )
So with the English Bookshop if you do not like the taste then do not go in , but please do not waste your time writing nasty stuff about it for gods sake, i think their may be more important things to do (I have much more Important things to do , but i need tell you all how good this place really is )
Anyway i happen to like Marmite so i went in and I was suddenly in the library at Hogwarts ( If you do not know what Hogwarts is please google it ) ......
To be honest I do not want to say to much as i do not really want to publicise it, but if you are bothering to read this and you do go there and if you look hard beyond the dust but at the shelves you will find true treasures in hardback, signed first editions, every title possible, lost classics (can i stop now ) It is a dusty old masterpiece of a shop with a grumpy owner, but get to know him and he is as lovable and interesting as any of the random original art pieces he has hanging on his walls
so as Marmite Advertising says : Like it or Love it
Personally i loved it , will always visit and will never forget it

Doesn't seem to care about the state of his shop. A complete mess with books allowed to deteriorate.
Also extremely rude to customers.

I've been visiting Palma every year for the last 9 years and one highlight is always a trip to Fine Books and a chat with Rodney, whilst I rummage for hidden gems (check out the reviews under Fine Books as they are one and the same).
Contrary to a couple of the other reviews, I have always found Rodney to be very friendly and helpful, and an absolute gent, always happy to engage in conversation. I can only assume that previous reviewer caught him on an off day - and we can all suffer from those occasionally.
His knowledge of his stock - some 70,000 books! - is incredible (don't say awesome!). This is everything a 2nd hand bookshop should be - a veritable labyrinth of passages and stairs winding between 1000's of books, with lots of hidden corners and even a couple of underground cellars, covering every subject imaginable, both fiction and nonfiction. You never know what you might find. A modern incarnation of the Great Library of Alexandria! 😀
Yes, Rodney is a little eccentric, but that is exactly as it should be. He is the perfect custodian for the wealth of knowledge contained within. With the continuing march of 'progress' in this increasingly digital age, I always find a visit to Fine Books to be a very refreshing and therapeutic experience, and sadly one that is slowly disappearing. Long may he continue.

So much potential but a real shame to be greeted by such a horrible old cynic. Don't own a bookshop if you're not content to let people walk around and discover what's there. I love books and I recently completed an English Literature degree, but I certainly won't be buying any from a man who hates young people and - as everyone else has mentioned - greets anyone who enters with the phrase 'it isn't a bloody museum'. Such a sad individual who has no doubt lost a great deal of custom over the years.

I guess the owner is just a lonely cinic guy craving some attention. Nevertheless, go prepared! He has indeed a very sharp tongue, and you must know exactly what to say in order to get a positive reaction from him. He hates smartphones and the word "awesome", just saying. 3 minutes there were more than enough to make me turn away and go, embarassed.
The shop itself has very little walking space, due to piles and piles of books in disarranged collums with no apparently order. He seems, dough, to know where each book is.
Visit the hand made craft shop just next door instead of ;)

What was a quirky exciting bookshop that I could have spent hours and a lot of money in was sadly owned by an incredibly rude man. He pushed passed us muttering rude comments about us being in the way, only to turn round and come back immediately doing the same thing. 1 minute later as we had just found some books we would buy he reappeared and rudely pushed passed us once again only to immediately turn round again. We decided to leave as we were obviously not wanted there. On our way out he remarked that it 'wasnt an f*#@!*g museum'. Only if he hadn't been so rude he would have had three paying customers, only himself to blame there.
