Did not have any of the same bad experiences with our guided tour others have mentioned. Arrived 1:35pm, got tickets no problem on a Saturday recently - tour started on time for 50 minutes. Guide excellent!! Yes a little German before English but not as long as people have mentioned. Saw all 3 theatres, backstage (due to no rehearsals) and the famous Rock Riding School stage where filmed Sound of Music. History excellent, fantastic theatres, esp if Sound of Music fan. Highly recommend! Cheap price!

ザルツブルク音楽祭の主会場、祝祭劇場(Festspielhauser)に三つあるホールの一つです。今回、ここでオペラ・オイディプス王の初日公演を鑑賞することができました。伝統のある格式高いホールで豪華なラウンジも備わっていますが、客席は日本の一般的ホールと比べてもかなり窮屈、大柄な人が多いヨーロッパですが、意外な感じを受けました。

La Felsenreitschule . “Scuola d’equitazione della roccia” addossata alla parete rocciosa del Mönchsberg è una originale ed affascinante sala concerto.
Uno dei palcoscenici più belli del famoso festival di Salisburgo.

Felsenreitschule is a theatre and a venue of the Salzburg Festival. It was also used as a location in the film version of Sound of Music.
Wonderful stage, beautiful architecture - if time allows yous should see a performance there.

ザルツブルグ音楽祭の会場の一つ。フェルゼンライトシューレとは「岩の乗馬学校」という意味で、大司教の騎兵学校があったことに由来するのだそうです。メンヒスベルグの丘の崖を削って作った壁画を擁した壁が美しい。
ここでは映画「サウンド・オブ・ミュージック」でマリアとトラップ大佐の子どもたちが「ドレミの歌」を歌いながらこの前を行進する光景が撮影されました。

After not being able to stay for the tour when we were in Salzburg a few years ago I was very excited to go this time. They must know that most people are only going for the Sound of Music connection and I wish they had told me that the arches would not be on show as they had filled them in for an opera. There are a couple left open but I felt cheated that I didn't get to see it when that was the main reason to be there.
The rest of the tour is interesting but this broke my heart a little. They should let you know up front that it won't look the same or have something on the website.

The Sound of Music connection aside (features in the music festival scene where the baron sings 'Edelweiss' and the family sing 'So Long, Farewell') this place has a fascinating history. The riding school was built out of a quarry at the foot of the Monchsberg cliffs where rocks had previously been excavated to build the cathedral. The school was originally used for training, tournaments and animal hunts, before being later taken over by the imperial cavalry. The 96 arcades carved into the rock on three floors was originally used to seat the audience. When, in 1926 it became a venue for the Salzburg Festival, the auditorium was reversed, with the arcades now forming a backdrop to the stage. A huge 130 foot wide stage has been added with a retracting roof. We did contemplate a tour (the only way you can gain entry) but the arrangements weren’t very clear and we understood that the original rock arches aren’t always visible. We settled instead for a photostop of the Pferdeschwemme in front of the auditorium. This is one the most beautiful water features in Salzburg. The central marble horse sculpture stands in the centre of a large pool with ramps on either side to allow the horses to more easily enter their bath. The backdrop of the colourful horse frescoes and the sheer cliff is stunning.
