Gorgeous location and an excellent 10-minute introductory talk every half hour.
Lovely gardens to stroll around, including a kids' den and playground.
A lovely trip out: would suggest lunch at the Three Conies afterwards!

Interesting visit to Sulgrave Manor, Northamptonshire, the ancestral home of George Washington. Informative guides with additional information boards around the house and interesting exhibition detailing the life of George Washington. Simple cafe and shop. Well tended gardens. Satnav made it a little difficult to find - follow the signposts for Sulgrave! See website for opening times and ticket purchasing.

Sulgrave Manor is a charming & tranquil place which maintains such an admirable environment despite its obvious historical significance. The team are welcoming & friendly as well as informative and the balance between telling the full story of the house & a focus on George Washington is achieved very effectively.

This house is connected to George Washington (yes that US George Washington) and has very pleasant gardens, friendly employees and amazing cakes to enjoy outside or inside in a cool, little room set up with tables, a sofa and even some books for children.
To really get the most out of your visit make sure you join the free talk from the very knowledgable guide, before you walk around on your own. There are a number of activities for children in the house, and also in the room near the courtyard, where children (and adults) can dress up and measure their height against George Washington.
The gardens are lovely, and there are picnic tables, as well as lawned areas. I'd like to have gone back for the musical event they had planned, as it seemed like a perfect setting for such an event!
There is free parking on site, coffee and drinks available from the entrance/gift shop which will be brought to you if you are sitting in the 'tea room' or outside, once ordered.

I took the train to Banbury to visit Sulgrave Manor. You then need to take a taxi to the manor. Lawrence Washington, George's 5 times great grandfather, built this house in 1539. It was restored and opened to the public as a symbol of Anglo-American friendship in 1921. The Washington family coat of arms, displayed above the main entrance, inspired the first American flag. Two large rooms of the original house remain. You can see the Great Hall on the ground floor. Every hour on the hour, there is a 10-minute talk about the house. Upstairs is the Great Bedchamber. The bed covering is beautiful, but not original. In 1995, New Elizabethan Embroideries in the UK and USA created the modern bed hangings with symbols from both countries. It took ten years to complete.
Sulgrave Manor also had later additions, such as a kitchen from the late 1600s. The house is surrounded by lovely gardens. Usually the house and gardens open in April, but this year they opened a month earlier. In the old stables, they had an exhibition about George Washington. A bust of Washington stands in the garden that was created for the U.S. bicentennial. I spent several hours at Sulgrave. I wish the weather had been better, but it was a lovely day out.

This is a wonderful place to visit if you have any interest in George Washington. See the home of the beginning of the Washington family. The gardens, while small, are lovely and demonstrate an English garden. Every hour on the hour, there is a 10 minute introductory talk and then you are free to explore the house on your own. There are interactive children activities in each room, even dress up! There is ample parking and small gift shop that sells homemade sweets. The staff were so friendly and knowledgeable.

I’m sure American visitors must love Sulgrave, as it connects their first President to his roots. The manor building and small but attractive gardens are well cared for and full of information. There is also a visitor centre that tells Washington’s story, alongside some historical artefacts, remarkably including one of his frock coats. The furnishings in the rooms, restored to their appearance circa 16-1700, give a sense of the life in those times.
There seemed an obvious focus on younger visitors, with plenty of dressing up opportunities or activities. Personally I would have liked a bit more depth in places, perhaps on Washington the soldier and also the way the family made their wealth. Perhaps this would have come if I had attended the tour.
Friendly staff, plenty of parking.

This was a lovely place to.visit , The home of the Washington Family who produced George the 1st President of the Unites States. Unfortunately the House wasn't open on the day we visited, but we walked round the gardens which were beautiful.

We've visited Sulgrave a few times in the past but this is the first time since 2017. In the past a tour of the manor was with a guide but now it is free-flow. I prefer free-flow but saying that the guided tours in the past were quite good but because some of the rooms are small, free-flow is probably better. There is, however, a 10-15 minute talk at certain times that gives an overview of the property & its links with George Washington. If you don't know the history of the manor I would recommend the talk. The gardens have been revamped since our last visit & we were particularly impressed with the alpine garden & its accompanying glasshouse. This property has a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere, set if quiet countryside. The staff were helpful & pleasant so I recommend it.

Sulgrave Manor stands out for its very welcoming staff and volunteers, the excellent way in which information is presented in each room, and its lovely gardens. The whole place appears well cared for and the introductory talk in the Great Hall was interesting and put the Manor in context. You can take your time looking round and the volunteers are always ready and able to answer any questions. Very enjoyable visit.
