Despite this being the second closest National Trust property to us, this was our first visit. Although beautiful, I can't see us making a return (we regularly go to Canons Ashby or Charlecote Park, for instance).
As has been said, the stucco work is amazing. The great majority of the assistants were friendly and chatty, although one or two could do with lightening up a bit! Most of them were very informative and there were lots of sheets to read if you didn't want to shell out for a guide book.
I'm currently not as mobile as I was, so skipped the walk to the obelisk but we did go down past the rose garden (although we'd probably missed the first flush) and down to the cascade.
Having forgotten our bottle of water, we really did miss a café! but we were aware from the guide book so bad planning on our part.
As requested, I left my camera bag with the guides at the door and didn't use my camera phone: it is still a private home so there are signs saying no photography.

We visited the house during late August 23. I was minded to say that this isn’t your typical NT property but I don’t think there is a typical property! This is very different in so much as you are stepping into someone’s home, a family still live not only in the property but use the rooms open to the public. This is why there are only a few rooms to see but, goodness, how interesting they were. I was fascinated by the mixture of old and new and how the present occupant, who is I gather an interior designer, has put these aspects together. She lives here with her family and has created a wonderful family home amongst the wonderful treasures collected by their ancestors. The guides were clearly passionate about the house which always makes a difference.
I was itching to take pictures but it is not allowed because it is a family home, which is completely understandable.
The grounds were charming with a longish walk to the monument which was erected in 1751. The gardens are mostly laid to lawn but there is a beautifully fragrant rose garden too.
We did miss a cafe, perhaps an honesty tea and coffee station would be nice? There are plenty of places to sit, however, and the website is clear on this.
One tiny criticism is that there isn’t a family tree in the guide book which was a tad disappointing.
We had a lovely chat with the lady taking payments who I think maybe the same as the aforementioned interior designer. Wonderful.
I would definitely recommend a visit.

Beautiful hall in a stunning setting. I've only rated it as average as there isn't much to see.
Only a few rooms are open - 4 downstairs, the stairs themselves and a peek into a sort of bedroom come sitting room, so pretty limited - we were through in less than 30 minutes. You get the impression that it is opened by the family, but begrudgingly so and they will only show you the bare minimum because they have to probably for tax reasons. The room stewards were nice and dogs were welcome outside.
But it has a lovely feel - even 'homely' despite its grandeur. Visit on a summers day and you can literally see middle England. Visit nearby Burton Dassett Country Park for stunning views.

I had taken several wonderful long walks in the area so finally decided to pop into the Hall during their extremely limited hours. Signage was extremely poor getting there, no doubt part of the agreement with the Holbech family. Thus, the atmosphere of a house only begrudging open starts before you pull in the parking area. I’ve been a long time member of the NT and HHA, and Farnborough Hall combines the worst of both associations rather than their best. The NT can be welcoming, full of information placing a building in a historical context, and photos are usually encouraged. And tea shops there are often wonderful. The NT can also be institutional and the rooms lacking the the sense someone lives there. Private homes can be quirky and you feel the hustle of a family trying to make a go of things ( For example, at Kentwell Hall, the wry commentary boards on renovating the house are very entertaining.) They can also be chilly and off-putting-usually no photos. But the tea shops can be wonderful. Sadly, despite a few family photos scattered around, Farnborough Hall doesn’t feel like a family home. The grounds are the most limited I have experienced in over a hundred properties. Some of volunteer staff gave off a rather officious air. Few rooms are open. No tea shop. Admire the hand molded plaster work. (But Claydon, not too far away across the border, has some really wild plaster that will knock your socks off.) Spend an hour there if you are in the area, but it is not worth it if you aren’t in the area, and not an NT member.

We joined the National Trust six months ago and have used our membership locally and in Devon and Cornwall on holiday this year. Hidcote, Charlcote, Upton locally and Greenway, Coleton Fishacre, Killerton, Knightshays, Castle Drogo amongst many more on holiday. We trip advisor researched Farnborough Hall. Some were good reviews, some were not so good. May I redress the not so positive ones? Some say that they don’t review well as it isn’t open very much. I say, plan ahead! Some say only a few rooms are open. True, but the rooms that are, are very well worth the effort of exploring. The plaster work is exquisite. The Holbech family still live there. This should be respected. Their family history, linked to Vice Admiral Nelson’s family is unique.
The experts in every room are passionate about this home and a home is what it is. A home that I have driven past and not visited for years and for far too long. The gardens are beautifully maintained and there is a lot of maintenance to do! Walk up the manicured grassy path flanked by laurel hedges, holly trees, sweet chestnut, holly and fragrant linden trees, wild lilies growing beneath, past the two follies to the obelisk. A path well worth taking.

An interesting building with lovely extensive grounds. Lovely views from top of hill. Easy walk up slight incline. Perfect to walk the dog. House ok but nothing of note. The family still live there and I was shown around by one of them. Think she might have been a headmistress! No tea rooms but the village hall usually do teas which are very good. Much cheaper than NT

We loved our visit here at the weekend. My husband and I came with our baby and were made to feel so welcome. It was lovely weather so we enjoyed a walk up to the monument and a great time in the house. So grateful to the Farnborough Hall team who looked after our son so we could make the most of the houses too. We'll be back!

Farnborough Hall is open on Wednesday and Saturday afternoons with the National Trust.
Clearly this property is still a private home, but I guess they are funding the property with this agreement with the National Trust.
As a member, its ok to go and visit, but if I was a normal member of the public I would feel ripped off to pay £6.10 to see 3 rooms and a staircase. Yep thats all you see. 3 downstairs rooms, which clearly have current occupiers private items in and a staircase that you cannot go into any rooms off of.
Garden nothing special. If in the area and a member ok, but do not make a special trip you will be disappointed. Much better NT properties to see.

The family still live there and don't want strangers walking around their property. About 80% is private, cant take pictures, many rules to follow and only 3 rooms to see. Visitors are just an annoyance to the family but they need our money because of death duties so have to let us in. Only open 2 afternoons a week and was asked to leave the room as we were literally 90 seconds early! Don't give them the satisfaction.

We are sorry to hear about your disappointment after your recent visit to Farnborough Hall but a few points must be clarified in your review.
The gardens are open to the public as well as half of the house - the parts that are private are the offices, kitchen and bedrooms etc that are not of particular interest to see.
All of the historical and unique rooms are open as per the opening times for most of the year starting in the spring and closing for the winter months - the time when the gardens and house look their best. Due to the nature of some of the items that are on show in the house, photography is not permitted.
The guides are extremely knowledgable on all of the rooms and on the gardens so we are sorry if you had a bad experience but invite you to return to see this wonderful property again soon.

Travelled 100 miles to have access to 3 rooms and no photos allowed! Very disappointed, perhaps if the family don’t truly want visitors to see their home and its history, then perhaps close the doors.

The grounds open at 2:00 but it is possible to walk around the lake by the overflow carpark before. Good grass area for a picnic lunch too!

Are the gardens and terraces wheelchair friendly?
Escrita el 1 de septiembre de 2016
The paths are quite good, but I think they would be very hard going for a wheelchair and some of the paths are quite steep in places and there are steps to negotiate. I hope this has been of help to you..
