Belle maison (presbytère) convertie en centre d'interprétation et en centre de généalogie. Les expositions sont très intéressantes. Plusieurs infos pertinentes sur l'île et les familles fondatrices.
Panorama exceptionnel.

This was a nice, little family history museum. As descendants of some of the three hundred founding families, we were keenly interested in what this museum had to offer. Even without that connection, though, the museum offered valuable insight into what life would have been like for the men and women who came to the island from France in the 1600s. The price of admission is entirely reasonable, and the building itself is quite beautiful. Our teens were not as interested in the museum as we (the adults) were, but it’s not a huge place so they hardly had a chance to become impatient with us.
It was also one of the few places that was open in April, and we appreciated that as it was actually one of the main reasons we went out to Ile d’Orleans.

A day at la Maison de nos Aieux was a magical experience as I learned so much about my ancestors and the land they cultivated back to the 1600s. Became a member of the Foundation and plan to follow and support them in the future. I will return to this site any chance I get! The historic building and exhibits, church de Ste. Famille and cemetery are beautiful as are the picturesque grounds facing la Riviere St. Laurent. Seeing many ancestral names from within my own tree on the stunning outdoor sculpture was very moving and memorable. Special kudos to Lelia Dekker and Sabrina Gamache-Mercurio for their incredible assistance on this genealogy journey. The bookstore/gift shop is also sweet and had amazing books/resources for my research. Helpful website and online shopping are a plus! Je me souviens. Merci!!!!

Our visit here was my personal highlight to our trip! I arranged an appointment with Alec to assist me in confirming research I had done on my husband's family ancestry. Alec provided us with lots of information on our family tree as well as the island. It was a wonderful experience. Highly recommend if you are interested in learning more about Quebec history or the area!

The sign on the door stated that they were closed due to Halloween. This was especially disappointing to our friend who has many ancestors who were born on the island. However, the grounds were still nice to tour.

Found some family genealogy while there. Staff is friendly and helpful. The entire I'lle d'Orleans is a great place to visit. Shops, restaurants, jam tasting, fresh produce, chocolate shops. It's a fun place.

The english translations in this small museum were lacking and the description was misleading. You can expect a brief history of farming on the island along with a list of original settlers and information about the church.
I was hoping to learn more about how the settlers of the island lived and worked, but there was not much detail offered, even less in English.
Not a good use of our time.

We're sorry to read that you felt this way. For the lack of english translation, you probably mean at the second floor? If it's the case, just know that we have booklets with the translations available at the entrance. Also, if you can tell us what was misleading to you we would be curious to read it.
About the history of how the setlers were living on the island, it is done through the guided portion of the visit. If our guides were too busy to do it in english when you were at the model, we are sorry. It is really not often the case.

My friend and distant cousin Bob and I visited Quebec in September with definite plans to visit the Ile d' Orleans, the home of many of our ancestors. The island itself is a joy to drive around, although it was a bit wet and gray. The Maison De Nos Aieux has an immense amount of information about all of the early settlers who were granted land there. I entered the museum unprepared which was a mistake, but soon found one of the founding families Francois Gaulin and Marie Rocheron (Fille a Marier) who were my 8th great grandparents. I was also informed that there was a monument to Francois and Marie less than 100 meters from the museum. What a thrill. The Maison De Nos Aieux is a must-see for anyone interested in French Canadian history or genealogy. The grounds around the museum are stunning and deserve some quiet contemplation as well.

I was very fortunate on the day of my September visit to Maison de nos Aieux to meet Rachel, an extraordinarily knowledgeable guide, who was incredibly generous with her time in sharing a wealth of information about every aspect of the history and culture of the people of L'ile d'Orleans. Given her personal connection to the island's original families, and her excellent educational background in history and culture, she was the perfect guide who clearly loves to share her ancestral passion with visitors from around the globe.
As Rachel explained, many of those who come are pursuing their own family connections to the original settlers of the island, and she and other staff members provide personal assistance in accessing the wealth of documentation available for those quests. I quickly learned that although this unique place tells a fascinating story of ancestral heritage in its documents, pictures, and the very impressive topographical model of the island, it is not a museum in the usual sense, concerned only with preservation of artifacts. It is a very vital, living, welcoming space that invites people to have a true experience of "maison"........to "come home" to all that connects us to ancestors and family.
After such an extraordinary visit to the Maison, I walked down the lovely garden path to the St. Lawrence to see the memorial sculpture in such striking silhouette against the sky. With its listing at the base of all of the names of the original 300 families, it is the perfect artistic symbol to honor their lives and their multitude of descendants around the world.
As do most who first cross over the bridge, I fell in love with this incredibly special island and its people, and I believe that everyone's visit would be deeply enriched, as was mine, by an experience of the unique Maison de nos Aieux. Again, my sincere appreciation to Rachel for making my visit such a rich and memorable experience.

I knew quite a bit before I went, but they have a full genealogy room if there is any research you need to do. If possible go on a nice day, as the park is lovely!
