As a local I frequent the zigzag. It is a superb place to run. The views are spectacular.
It is currently closed to vehicles from 8:30pm to 11:00am. This allows cyclists, runners and walkers to use the roadway in the morning, while allowing vehicles during the afternoon/evening. Note: the zigzag is one-way vehicle traffic from top to bottom.

The Zig Zag road is a great way to see Perth from the hills while enjoying a drive down the side of the Perth hills

The Zig Zag is a former railway line that zig zags down the Darling Ranges, giving a magnificent view of Perth. The Zig Zag runs through the Gooseberry Hill National Park. The council has closed the Zig Zag to motorised traffic because of anti-social behavior by some motorists. The council has not yet made a decision when, or if, to reopen the Zig Zag to cars, but the Zig Zag is open to pedestrians. Apart from the view, the Zig Zag hosts native birds and animals.

Horrible that it's closed.....
For the people sitting in their mansions on the hill, sorry you hated the hooners...so did everyone else that has the right to enjoy the view and walk amongst the tree's.
We have every right to experience that area. You did not purchase millions of aches,
I live in south perth but the river, i dont get to block millpoint road!
Make the roads more suitable with perhaps more frequent speed bumps to keep people going slow!
Qnd open it back up to the community.
Disgraceful.
Shouldn't be something kept from Australians.

Many thanks to the Shire of Kalamunda for extending the closure of the Zig Zag Scenic Drive for a further 6 months. I have given you 5 Stars for a brilliant decision.
As a family we have not slept this well as the hooning gave us so many terrible nights. Not to mention all the ugly black rubber on the road. I can't imagine the hoons are paying Kalamunda rates.
Thanks again and keep up the good work.

So sad that that City of Kalamunda has so little respect for disabled, aged and frail people, who rely on their vehicles to enjoy this beautiful place, by closing the drive to them. They must reopen the road during daylight hours, because almost all antisocial behaviour happens there at night.

The Zig Zag closure trial has been the best decision made by the local Kalamunda Shire. Now after 10 years of anti social behaviour, bush fires, and serious car accidents many people in our local community applaud the decision. The general public have an opportunity to enjoy the scenic area more safely and also without the danger of a car running you off the scenic trail. Those who still want to catch the view by car can do so via the scenic park areas at the top of the hill. We love it and certainly do not miss for one minute the Zig Zag misuse or our suburb being used as a local race track. Thank you Kalamunda Shire.

Came here as the road was supposed to close for 6 months. We really enjoyed the short drive and especially the lovely views of Perth. I believe the road is still open for walking and bicycling, just not for cars till the end of the year. You can find the Stathams Quarry here with its blue tree.
Have to come back to watch a sunset.

Is this road still closed? Coming from the states and would love to enjoy it. Also, if it’s open, is there a fee to drive? Thank you!

Hi there is the road open again yet? If not is there another way to get to the top so we can have a picnic dinner with a view? Thank you

Unfortunately still closed bu drive up Gooseberry Hill Road from Maida Vale and turn left at the top which will then take you to the top part of the Z-Z.

Just wondering about road conditions at night, is it still doable to drive up at night at 6pm?
Escrita el 20 de marzo de 2017
Definitely yes the road is bitumen all the way and the view at sunset is amazing. There are a few roos around at dusk but there is a 40 km speed limit, so take care.
