Geschichte Irlands
may. de 2019
Anschliessend ein feines Guinness oder Smithwicks in den nahen Pubs, the Irish spirit of life.

Oddly appropriate

It is nice to find a historic sight that is not heavily marketed. This is just a stabiiized, ruined stone house, with some signage and paths. You can't get right up to the ruins, but probably just as well. Some people would want to steal a souvenir stone or such. Better you just take in the placid place to consider a great person's life. Even the memorial park is low-key. This is a free attraction that is every bit as educational and evocative as other Daniel O'Connell sites around Ireland.

Nice Memorial

I know that this is just a roadside park and was not expecting much, but I was delightfully surprised. I thought the ruins of the house across the river were very interesting, but the highlight was the garden walk. It is such a nice area to wander and reflect. There are placards with some information on his and Irish history. Other than the fact that we were there with a tour bus full of people, it was a peaceful place.

Really Interesting to see

I advise, if you can to not just take the tour buses where they slow down and you get a fast snap from far. Theres a car park and publica park with a lake dedicated to him, its scenic and you can see way better. The lake does mean you cant get in near the ruins, but close enough to see. People keep complaining how it is poor.. you do realise it was not built out of convience for people to look at years on and is a ruin after all! If you appreciate Irish History this, as well as the bust is very nice to see.

This site is right on the Ring of Kerry road and well marked just look for the sign on the left. We were doing the Ring "counter clockwise." There is a nice park just over the Carhan River bridge where you can park. There is a bust of O'Connell, and information boards and nice spots to sit along the river..It is a small park so it doesn't take much time to see the ruins of the house. There is a very interesting sculpture (St. Brendan the Navigator Monument) a little further and across the street from the park as well.

Drove atraight past to start with and hunted around as i didnt look twice at the ruins. Right next to the road, badly signposted. However, memorial garden is a nice spot to walk, sit and relax.

A sorry state

This should be earmarked for some upgrading work to reflect its importance as Daniels birthplace. The local council and business people should draw up an action plan to restore it. Indeed it would be a fantastic project for Fexco to throw some money at.
It could be a very informative visitors centre and provide some local employment as well.
