With our tour group we had a chance to make rice paper and were entertained by one of the owners of rice paper production. He played several stringed Vietnamese instruments and along with his son, sang traditional songs. Fabulous! Also saw rice crackers being produced.

With an OAT group, we did get a chance to make rice paper that are used for spring rolls. And you do need a guide to get through all of the various alleys. There are very many rice paper forms drying all over the village.
Thoroughly enjoyed visiting the local market in Tho Ha. The merchant survey friendly. It's a little farther away from Hanoi, so they don't see as many foreigners.

This is a small village which has somehow made tourism a major business. Countless tour groups come here to see Mr. Viet's wife make rice paper and hear Mr. Viet play and sing. In spite of the fact that there are so many groups visiting here, it really seems authentic and real. We visited as part of Overseas Adventure Travels (OAT) tour group. Highly recommended.

We reached the village at around 11 O'clock and were disappointed to find out that the rice paper making activity is done early morning. So we couldn't see the process of making rice paper!
We only managed to see the drying stage of the process. Thousands of boards were spread through out the village, it was a nice sight.
I'd recommend to visit the village early morning so that you can see the complete process.
The drive time is approx 1 hour form Hanoi Old Quarter.

This little village is known for making rice paper. They have two ways of making ,buy machine and by hand.
This paper in turn is used for spring rolls .
Never have seen a town collectively work so hard at thier living.
The people in town were very friendly and warm.
Good for a half day.
There is a small ferry to take to get to the village.

We had a great day with the Tho Ha village and Do Temple. Our guide was great at showing us all around the village with temple, pagodas, school and also the local house where we could meet actual local person, enjoyed the local alcohol and had time learning to make the local rice paper.

We had an amazing day trip to Tho Ha village and a 0$ food tour in Hanoi as the promotion. This village is well-protected from the noisy town and only reachable by a ferry. The village is small and our guide showed us all corner of it: From the pagoda to temple and the local houses where they truly made the rice paper. The lunch in a local family and trying to make some product by ourselves brought a great fun to our kids. After the village trip, we also visited the wood-carving village of Dong Ky and it was also an experience to see all the things made by local craftman. Our free food tour in the evening was also very wonderful with many stops to try different local food of Hanoi. We strongly recommend the 2 activities of the Tho Ha rural village and Hanoi Free Food Tour.
