After my peaceful experience at Dal Lake, my journey to Sonmarg introduced me to the stunning Thajiwas Glacier. The contrast between the vibrant green valleys and the white, snow-covered glacier was absolutely breathtaking. Hiking up to the glacier, I was surrounded by untouched natural beauty, making the experience feel both adventurous and peaceful. Whether on the calm waters of Dal Lake or among the towering peaks of Thajiwas, Kashmir offers an unforgettable blend of tranquility and majesty."

Don't go to Thajiwas glacier
Rather I would say don't go to Kashmir at all , instead go to better scenic and accessible places like switzerland
The government of India has failed to provide easy access to places like Thajiwas glacier, baisaran valley and other places where only ponnies go which is risky and a way to loot tourists instead look at Switzerland where each mountain top can be reached by train or ropeway. The ponniwalas harras a lot and I completely discourage going to kashmir if you haven't been to Swiss then go there first, you won't need to visit Kashmir

Beautiful place with ice mountain, meadows and river. In summer one can enjoy the beauty of nature here. Around 3Km from the taxi stand. Always bargain with the pony owners.

Beautiful walk to the glacier, it is about 3-4 kms with a very moderate incline. The walking road goes though lot of meadows and streams and is really enjoyable. We had to cross the pony path at couple of places and we were so glad that we had not taken them as it was dusty, smelly and everyone there seemed to be in a hurry.

Amazing mesmerising views, it’s a beautiful walk, avoid the mule ride and walk all the way, the walk is pretty easy.

The place is very beautiful but becoming overcrowded day by day. The beauty of place ruined by travellers and it feels like the stools of ponies spreader all around. People trying to loot you like they charge humongous for ponies ride, sledge ride etc. I had Maggie there but when he asked me that the price is ₹100/plate I was surprised. You need to bargain here a lot. The only guilt I had after visiting this place is our unsustainable tourism to these places will ruin the beauty and ecosystem of these places.

My recent trip to Kashmir was marred by constant harassment from peddlers, hawkers, and brokers at every tourist spot. It was impossible to enjoy the serene beauty of Kashmir as these individuals constantly badgered us to buy their products or avail their services.
No matter where we went, whether it was a scenic viewpoint or a historical site, we were surrounded by people trying to sell us everything from trinkets to boat rides. Even when we politely declined, they were persistent and at times, even aggressive.
It's truly disheartening that such a beautiful destination is plagued by this issue. I would caution anyone planning a trip to Kashmir to be prepared for this constant annoyance, which greatly detracts from the overall experience.

Hello Travellers,
We plan to visit Sonmarg for a day on 1st Mar with 2 senior citizens, 2 kids, and 4 adults.
What are the best places to see considering elderly people - Can riding ponies be difficult for them and how long will it take to reach the glacier .
I assume no way for a taxi to reach the glacier , id walk feasible
Or should we plan for zero point and other opetion in a car

Yes they can do pony ride as long as they are able to travelling in an auto-rickshow on a bumpy road. Walk is not possible very slippery. Whole journey will take 1 hour.

I am plannig to visit Kashmir on 15 May 2021 with family. Is it worth visiting Zero point or is it OK to confine ourselves to Thejiwas Glacier? Can we find enough snow in Thejiwas Glacier during May?

Is it possible to come sonmarg in January or it will be closed?
Escrita el 13 de febrero de 2020
It depends on the weather conditions, otherwise it's possible to come sonamarg. As January is coldest month in this region & in this month lot off snow may fall which closes the road connectivity.
