When visiting the Museum at Hartenbos ATKV you get a very good idea of how life was many years ago. There you also get flyers of what to do in Hartenbos.

Interesting artwork and history on the Groot Trek. Very nice museum. Rather make a booking when you plan on going. I went at around 11 am and had to wait 45 mins for it to open again after tea time?

We went to visit the museum twice but couldn’t go. According to google, the closing times are at 16:30pm. When you get there the guard says it only operates from 9am to 2pm??? Really? The beaches are closed... you try to make alternate plans to entertain the family, and then they don’t put in the effort to keep one of the main attractions open for longer!! So disappointed! Twice!!

As part of us exploring the town and its surroundings we visited this museum, if you`re Afrikaans speaking this will interest you, as an English person not. The buildings housed with many transport items of old such as horse carts and wagons and theres also many display of the Afrikaner history. This building is extremely cold do wear warm clothes when you visited.

This museum gave our visitors from Canada a good visual depiction of our country's pioneers. They were fascinated to see the similarity in tools and wagons. I particularly liked the acknowledgement of the brave pioneer women who "maintained a civilised standard of living in the wilderness due to their dedication, diligence and resourcefulness". The exhibits were good and practical depictions of life on the "trek".

Een met zorg gemaakte tentoonstelling over de Grote Trek van de Boeren in 1835 en later. Tien taferelen en een video met veel oude spullen maken de rondgang erg interessant. Onderbelicht blijft dat de Boeren wel weg MOESTEN omdat de slavernij door de Engelsen was afgeschaft, hetgeen de economische doodsteek voor de Boeren was. Ze stichtten uiteindelijk een nieuwe staat, waar alles weer op de oude voet verder ging. Althans een tijdje. De heroiek heeft dus ook een tragische keerzijde.

This is a small Museum devoted to the Great Trek.The entrance fee is minimal. There are old photographs and literature, or you can walk around in a shorter time. I enjoyed seeing the scenes of life of the early settlers. It made it more real with the life sized mannequins wearing the clothes of that day. It brought home to me what hardships they faced, the lack of comfort and the tupw of experiences they had to endure on their journey through rural South Africa. There is an example of a settler wagon and their basic household items they would have had in their ox wagons. What a brave God fearing nation our country comes from . Our forefathers were an amazing race of people

Dull and dreary with outdated dummies. Didn't impress. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone. Entrance was cheap so I guess you get what you pay for. Lots of books and articles to read if you have the time.

We have visited South Africa many times but coming to this museum gave us a really good insight into the true history of the country and how they really had to struggle to survive. This museum is so well put together and the staff on the desk very helpful and full of information. The exhibits where being maintained as we were having our visit but that was fine. The only criticism I would make even though I gave 5 stars, is that the signage to the museum is very poor.

Took my mom of 82 here... and wow... a trip down memory lane for her and a long history lesson for me ... she loved it!!! even got a bit tearful telling us the stories of grandfathers... how they had to live and survive... take your kids here... your parents... granny and grandpa... huge selection of memorabilia... entrance cost next to nothing... very interesting...
