Great little museum inside a working army barracks and housed in the old gaol. Welcomed by the lovely Brett & Steve, we really enjoyed our time at this museum and would highly recommend it.

Fastinating the history that stems back to 1800’s and amazing collections presented for preservation. Friendly, passionate and informative staff/volunteers. Absolute credit to all involved

We really loved our visit. It was an amazing collection. Jeffrey showed us around and provided so much information which made our visit very special. A must see for history enthusiasts.

We got to the gate half an hour before closing but Brett was very friendly and welcoming, and let us have a look around anyway. We really appreciated the hospitality and had a great chat with him about Anglesea Barracks and the history of the building the museum is in. The museum itself is worth the look as a lot of care has been put into the set up. My favourite was the cabinet of Trench art and souvenirs!!
Very glad we got the recommendation to have a wander around the grounds because the small memorial area was gorgeous and impactful. The sculpture is especially beautiful and we spent some time admiring it. Really great experience!!

We were the only ones here on a Friday morning so got a lot of attention from the excellent guide. This is the oldest occupied and working military barracks in Australia - the museum has a lot of uniforms etc. and memorabilia - well worth a visit.

historic site about 10 mins walk from downtown that dates back to convict times. friendly volunteer staff and the displays give good overivew of military history of tasmania and the free tour on tuesdays at 11 am is worth coming for

My husband has a real interest in militaria, so the army museum was on our to do list. We had problems trying to figure out how to get in but fortunately Steve was bringing the sign in so we went back in with him. He was very informative and obviously has a passion for the museum and military history. The displays were well set up and interesting even to someone who may not be a military buff! We were encouraged to look around the whole barracks and the historical buildings are quite stunning. This is a must stop for anyone who is interested in military history.

An interesting part of Australian history. My son & I really enjoyed looking around the area and enjoying a bit of a history lesson.
We viewed the old jail which is the museum and the various buildings and memorials on ground.

My brother and i enjoyed the museum and the barracks. Steve gave us a personal description of the history of barracks. Beautiful displays in the rooms. After we were allowed to walk around and take pics of the old buildings. Only thing they mentioned was to not look through the windows or take pics inside the buildings as it is a working military area. Highly recommend

What a little gem this museum is. We started with a quick tour of the grounds. Most buildings dated to 1859-1860 and were in very good condition. The museum itself is housed in the old Gaol, and contains quite a history of Tasmanian military activity. This should be a must visit for all.
