Wandered around the area checking out the sights and the info plaques scattered around on both sides of the suspension bridge. Worth a wander at a relaxed pace

If you visit Launceston and don’t visit the gorge you are missing out. Due to a time constraint we did the shortest of the walks which only took about 25 minutes and is the least taxing.

We loved this walk - our first after arriving in Tassie. Convenient to town and a lovely few hours of interesting, well maintained and marked trails. We did the walk as a loop (out along the left and back along the right). Challenging at one point, at the steep start of the Snake Trail.

We were visiting Australian relatives in Launceston and they recommended the gorge and we weren’t disappointed.
On arrival from the car park the path round to the left and cross over the suspension bridge, stop in at the cafe for a coffee and scone. The peacocks are brilliant. Then continue on down alongside the river to the entrance into the gorge and the old iron bridge in Launceston, cross the bridge and then turn right following the path back into gorge working your way up the hill. It’s quite steep in parts but well worth the climb. You’ll eventually find yourself back at the entrance to the park. Finally, take a return journey on the old chair lift and cross over the gorge and back again, $20 adult return or $15 for OAPs.

Definitely a must see when visiting Launceston. Only a stones throw away from the city centre. A cheap few hours as the Gorge is free to access and walk all the trails. Lovely scenery and the chair lift is a bonus however is $20 return for adults but is an enjoyable ride.

Het is een mooie kloof met aan het begin een mooi wandel Park uit het begin van de 20e eeuw. Het park ademt nog echt de sfeer van die tijd. Je ziet zo de dames en heren een zondagse wandeling maken en wat drinken bij het café restaurant. Erg leuk en nog bijna helemaal in stijl gebleven stijl.

The Gorge is located at the lower section of the South Esk River. Great to see from the chairlift, even better by cruise from the Tamar to near the first basin with an accompanying knowledgeable commentary from the skipper. For all you walkers out there, there is a lovely walk along the Gorge on the King’s Bridge – Cataract Walk pathway from the entrance to the first basin and beyond. Very scenic and a must visit when in Launceston

The Cataract Gorge can be for the adventurer or those just wanting a stroll or a picnic. Although it's not very high, I didn't take the chairlift. There wasn't a queue in the middle of February, but I am "chicken" with little chairs up in the air. I stay on the park and enjoy my picnic
