I love the visitor centre. The staff are very knowledgeable on what's on in the area and what's good to visit.

This Visitor Centre is a must-go at the start of a visit to Margaret River area. The volunteer staff are helpful and informative and there is a wealth of brochures and map information to collect on the area. Even if you have been to the area before things change from year to year. There is also a wide selection of tempting tourist goods for young and old. I was impressed by the high standard. The display of wildflowers in the window is particularly impressive. It is good to see the area thriving again after pandemic times.

So nice to have our visitors back after a challenging few years so thank you for your lovely comments.
You are correct, things change year to year but even season to season and I am always happy to lay down the challenge to any repeat visitors that there is always something new or interesting to check out. The next 6 months will be incredible for bushwalking, wildlife and wildflowers.
We also have a sister visitor centre in Busselton so hope we get to see you again soon.

The Visitor Centre is excellent and the staff most helpful. However, the town itself is really lacking. We were there last week for 4 nights and found it very hard to find somewhere to have a coffee after 1.30-2pm each day. Most cafes had closed for the day or about to close and had their kitchens closed. Even some restaurants at night were closing their kitchens early. We know that many had a shortage of staff, but most holiday makers, I'm sure would be happy to wait a little longer.
The town was packed with holiday makers and we thought businesses would be happy to stay open. Disappointed.

Thanks for the great feedback about our visitor centre team.
Yes most cafes are open early morning to about 2pm for lunch or coffee but there are a handful of places that will still serve after that time. We are very much a daylight orientated region so our definition of a late dinner or night out is a little different to the big smoke I'm afraid. It can take some getting used to.
My suggestion for next visit is to frequent the town centres in the morning (for cafes, galleries or retail therapy) and return of an evening for an apres drink or dinner. We find that most visitors are generally out and about exploring beautiful beaches, ancient caves or stunning vineyards and cellar doors of an afternoon. With all the fresh and salty sea air surrounding us on three sides, we are often tuckered out by 9pm 😴
You are correct though, like much of regional Australia we have continued to battle through staffing and shortages so many of our small family businesses cope by making sure they are open or servicing visitors at the times of highest demand. Thanks for your understanding and I hope the above tips help navigate our quirks for next visit.

Unfortunately, this post doesn't really have anything to do with the visitor centre although Im sure they works have suggested this waking tail if we had gone there.
We visited Margaret River and did a walk through the townsite. Margaret River townsite has an ample supply of restaurants, cafes, bars and pubs to frequent.
As we had our dog with us we were more interested in having a look around on this occasion. We stumbled across a walking trail (Alfred Bussell trail) on the outskirts of the town. Make sure you look up the signage before walking or you may make the same mistake as us and follow the road to a fire break track like we initially did. Eventually we found our way and enjoyed a pleasurable walk along a Brook.We visited and did a walk through the townsite. Glad you enjoyed the Alfred Bussel Trail that links our town centre to a hub of walk trails and mountain biking trails around the northern perimeter of the town centre. Some of them are parts of old railway lines used to freight incredible hardwoods to sailing ships back in the day.
We have lots of great walk guides and maps in the visitor centre, including dog friendly. The beautiful brook you mention is actually the Margaret River funnily enough.

More a shop than a visitor center. You get the information you are looking for with limited amount of smiles. It’s a pity because there are so many great places around !

Our accredited visitor centre in Margaret River is open 9am - 5pm, seven days a week. We only close on Christmas Day. But... it sounds like we let you down somehow on the day of your visit, so our apologies.
Other than our very popular and free regional touring maps and local region guides we also stock regional event programmes and 150+ local attraction brochures and interactive displays to help showcase all the incredible local experiences on offer. We also have an area of information for travels across other parts of the South West and W.A
We do feature a big range of seasonal gifts and souvenirs which a lot of visitors love to buy. We try where possible to source locally or Australian made/designed items and feature a lot of local artists/writers. Purchases contribute to supporting our free visitor information and part-proceeds of several ranges also go to local conservation projects or community groups.

If you have a car we really liked staying here a bit removed from it all but a 5 minute drive out to Surfer's Point and 10 minutes back to the main street in Margaret River. We loved being out in the quiet with beautiful wild flowers and even saw a kangaroo. With two couples you would each have a bedroom and that's the capacity of the B&B part (this woman converted her home to have two matching guest suites separate from her own home). She prepares a lovely breakfast as well! It's called "Bed n Breakfast from $190 a couple" on AirBnB.
