Amazing tour! You get to see the complete process. From the trees that are growing and tasting the white raw beans to making chocolate yourself the same way the Mayans did it so long ago. The owner is a good storyteller and the tour is great! The chocolate is sooo delicious! Try the dark one or one of the icecreams that they make!

What a great thing to do in Belize! The owners and staff were very inviting and made it a personal experience. The tortilla making and lunch prep was fun and the food was delicious. It really exceeded our expectations.

This was such an excellent tour! We were able to learn about and experience the chocolate-making experience from farm to making and eating chocolate ourselves. The folks that worked here were so warm and friendly. This was so much fun for me to video and take pictures, then take them back home to share with my 4th grade students.

The Che'il Chocolate tour was a highlight on our trip to Belize. They grow some of their cacao at a farm across the road, which is the start of the tour. Then you head back to the Maya Center to make chocolate using traditional Mayan methods.

We learned so much about cacao and its history in Belize. And we were amazed how delicious the pulp was!

My family had a very enjoyable time at the Chelil Chocolate Factory. We made the drive up from Placencia which only took about 25 minutes. Very easy to find off of Southern Highway. Julio was very hospitable and he spoke great English. Before leaving our hotel I called Julio to inquire about the tour and he was great to work with. This was a unique and memorable experience. We would recommend to others as a great way to experience local Mayan culture.

If you are headed through Maya Center, in Dangriga or even Hopkins, Maya Center Museum is a must stop, Julio and his family are gracious hosts who welcome all like family. They happily hosted my study abroad groups hear after year for meals, museum tours, and even chocolate demonstrations.
Julio is a charismatic host and was willing to accommodate dietary needs and our travel schedules. The museum is well-put-together and includes interactive portions, perfect for student groups (including tortilla making, cacao milling, and sugar cane crushing)
It has been a pleasure to keep in touch with Julio after many years and see how his business has grown.

We didn't do any tour with them, we simply wanted to go to the cocksbomb reserve. We passed by to say hello and get information. Although we mainly met really friendly people in Belice, those women couldn't care less about us (maybe because we didn't take their tour?). And on top of that they wanted to make us pay $20 US per person (one way) for a taxi to bring us at the reserve, which is only 6 miles away!! Their reason was that the road is in very bad conditions... We started walking and found some local guys who agreed to take us there for $10 (for the two of us), and we saw that the road was not bad at all (we've had much worse during our trip). We hitchhiked on our way back and were lucky enough (it was low season) to find someone after a few minutes only. Most locals are super nice. So just keep in mind that those ladies try to take advantage of tourists (much more than anyone else we've met in this country), and they are literally stealing from them. Such a pity, as they look like a nice little community at first.

Hi, I am Julio Saqui, the owner of Maya Center Mayan Museum and Che'il Mayan Chocolate. I must say i am sorry to read about your debacle about your trip to cockscomb. It must have been truly disappointing. Well, i must tell you that i do not offer any of the services you posted on here! That is very wrong of you to hold the Mayan Museum & Chocolate factory & chocolate making tour responsible! I believe in offering a TOP quality service and chocolate experience with our trained and friendly Staff and this would have not happened to you, if you had choose our services in the first place. You are hitting the wrong guy!! So if you having a fight in the street with someone else, then leave it out there. I don't offer tours or taxi service to cockscomb. I don't work for them! The right thing for you to do is apologize! Thanks Julio Saqui

We went on the chocolate tour and bought it directly from the museum. They run regularly so it’s easy to book on - don’t get from a resort/ tour as we paid a lot less than we were offered for the tour. We visited the farm, tried fresh cocoa beans, learnt about the trade and then went back to the museum. After, we learnt how to make chocolate step by step and made it as a group. It was fascinating! At the end, you get to try a bar of chocolate you have made. Very highly recommended!

We had a great time touring the cacao farm and learning about the growing process. Going back to the main location we learned how the cacao beans are dried, roasted and the ground to make chocolate. We also got to make some chocolate the ancient way with grinding stones. The chocolate here is delicious and has no wax or other weird additives.
Roberto, the nephew of the owner is very knowledgeable and gives a great tour.

We contacted Mr. Saqui to arrange everything before we got there, and everything went smoothly. When we got there, we were given the tour of of their cacao farm. There, we were taught all about the cacao and certain horticultural techniques they used to make cacao farming easier. We saw the cacao fruit and tasted the seeds (very good btw). After learning everything about the plant, we then went back to Che'il to make some chocolate bars of our own (notice I said chocolate and not candy bars)! We learned how to make it the traditional Mayan way!

Very good tour to do if you are in Placencia or Hopkins. For the price of admission, it was well worth it!

Also, you can arrange to have lunch after the tour. We chose the Belizean stew chicken and it was delicious!
