My husband and I visited the Center yesterday. Audrey and Nora are such friendly hostesses and loved sharing their culture and their personal stories with us.

This Center has so much potential! I sincerely wish them success.

Ladies, kudos for a job well done!

I visited the center on a quiet day so I could chat with Audrey about their work. From the moment I parked my car in Punta Gorda, I felt incredibly welcomed! I was greeted on the sidewalk and escorted to the center, where Audrey met me with a big hug and a very warm welcome. We spent the next few hours chatting about Garifuna history, her family and the diaspora, and the amazing work she and her sister Nora are doing in the community. While I was there, a women's group came to create artisan crafts to sell, kids came and went playing together indoors and out, and all the while I learned SO much about this island I called home for years. Knowing the general story of the Garifuna in Roatan is one thing - visiting and chatting with these passionate, interesting women is a whole other level. I recommend every visitor and local go to the center and spend time learning and contributing. Enjoy the community vibe and the cultural preservation they're working so hard to encourage. It's both fascinating and fun! Thank you, Audrey and Nora, for a wonderful visit!

Our organised tour brought us to here to experience local culture and to enjoy an authentic dance display. Lovely people who enjoy simple lives. Excellent show and great commentary in a traditional dwelling

Audrey, her family, and all her team did a great and accurate job in promoting Garifuna culture, a result of a mix between pre-Colombian indians and Africans.
This is a great initiative to preserve this strong and particular people and teach about the real Central American history.
Flamingo Cultural Center is excellent for tourists who want to enrich their experience in the island.

Audrey really spent time to answer my many questions regarding Garifuna history and culture, as well as sharing her family's story. A visit to Flamingo Cultural Center is a great way to learn about Roatan's unique history, as well as support the local community.

Call or e-mail ahead if you want to catch the dance performances, as these operate on the schedule of visiting cruise ships.

Delightful place

We were driving around the island and had heard to stop in to Punta Gorda for history about the Garifuna people.

The Flamingo Cultural Center was a great stop!

Audrey took time to talk with us and answer our questions and show us a video too.

Take the time to pop in!

I have made several trips to the Flamingo Cultural Center in order to experience the Garufina history and to understand the traditions of this amazing culture! Audrey and Nora do a great job explaining where the Garufina people originated, and how they came to be in Roatan and throughout Central America. They have a great knowledge of history and the basis of the language. Their Center is located in Punta Gorda, which was the first Garufina Village in Honduras and Central America. They have several different things that you can do, including experiencing the old style of fishing, walking tours, and dance demonstrations. Be sure and call ahead to arrange your experience, because the dancers must be arranged in advance. It is well worth the trip, as their dance and drumming demonstrations also come with explanations of what the different dances mean, and when they are used.

Make time during your Roatan visit to experience the Flamingo Cultural Center in Punta Gorda. My sister lives on the island and raved about the experience. I agree! Garifuna is a rich and living culture with a deep and sometimes difficult history. The presentation and energy given to educating about Garifuna is infectious. Contact them in advance about when there are dancers and drummers at the center. Thanks Audrey and Nora for a great day!

5 *, if you come to Roatan for a visit or live here, this very special history and culture dissertation and display is not to be missed. The Garufina people are from an ancient ancestry and listening to the stories, watching their dance which is a display of their connection to past loved ones and ancestry. It is amazing. You must go to the Flamingo Cultural Center to actually see and feel the connection! Then have an island meal at Wagundan restaurant just down the street!!!! Absolutely worth the day trip to Punta Gorda! Amazing folks and delicious meal!!! You will not be disappointed!!!!!
