This little cove is way down at the end of road. It is very small and very secluded. A good place to swim and sit in the sun. I did not have snorkel gear with me but I would think that it would be a good place to snorkel. If you have a kayak it would be a very good place to launch. The waves do not break on the beach on a calm day getting out into the ocean would be very easy.

Dixie Maru Beach is a mixed blessing. Yes, it is somewhat isolated and is supposedly a reasonably tranquil place where one can swim yet remain free of the ferocious currents that sweep the coast here, but beware of the sea mud! When I was there a few years ago, I found myself all alone (no others around) and decided to cross the mudflat that frequently fronts the beach. Since the mud was crusted and appeared cracked and dried, I continued across it in my flip-flops, aiming on taking a paddle around in the water just beyond. Big mistake! Not only did the crust break through but I found myself rapidly pulled down to mid-calf by the VERY tenacious mud under the crust! This is as close to what I would imagine quicksand to be like as you can come, since the harder I trued to extricate myself, the more mired I became. Finally, after losing my flip-flops to this sucking mass of sea-mud, I managed to get myself out, but there was a prolonged moment when I though I would be permanently stuck! It can be that sticky, believe me! After I walked back to my car, covered in that horrid muck, I noticed a local who had been on the far end of the beach all along, obviously having a great time watching this haole malihini sinking into the stuff. He simply watched and enjoyed his Bud Light. This was my first indication that 'Moloka'i nui a Hina' was not quite as friendly as the PR slogan would suggest ("Moloka'i, the Friendly Island!").

No, not the Blues god. The state of the sea at this beach and others in the vicinity is not appealing at all. Water is dark, feculent brown. Wear boots to cross the stream bed as you approach the beach. You’ll sink in mud to your ankles. But this is precisely why you’ll have this beach all to yourself. If you plan to hike to Kaupoa Beach from here, spare yourself a lot of scrambling. You’ll find a trailhead of sorts on the south side of this cove.

There are few drive-up snorkeling beaches on Molokai, but this is one. Snorkeling is mostly on the south/left side as murky water on north side. Not a snorkeler?, this beach is good for swimming and lying on the beach. Overall, only about 400ft wide beach. There are some filtered shady spots under the thorny trees, and a couple picnic tables. Overall, a beaut! To find it, you have to drive literally all the way to the end of the road on the southwest side of Molokai.

Lived on Molokai for nearly 5 years as snowbird resident. Beach was awesome for a few years but climate change or other factors cause high muddy and bacteria laden water to exit into bay. What is need is a holding or settlement area further up the drainage to contain the rare but heavy occasional deluge. It's Always about the money.
Settlement pond or lake was done further north to protect Papohaku Beach from the same result years ago.

If you are on the west end of Molokai you will likely drive to the end of the road to this beach. But we found it small and muddy. In winter the beach is rough not great for swimming or snorkeling. But you’ll need to get over the muddy gulch to get to the beach area. Try to find the path around to the right.

After I discovered this beach I have gone back several times. I have never seen more than 5 people there at any one time. The water is lovely. Saw some fish. Mostly enjoyed sitting in my beach chair and reading my book in the peaceful quiet. Yes, there are thorns...they are on many beaches. Once you get the area closer to the water, I did not step on any thorns. I have great flip flops and never have any trouble. By sunset, I was alone. It was a stunning view! Oh and there is a shower to rinse off.

There's a convenient parking area for this beach, but that's about it. From the parking lot, you have to walk through a muddy gulch to get to the beach. Hopefully it's dried up if you go, but when I went, I got mud all over my shoes. Once you get to the beach, it isn't impressive. Like others have posted, the water is brown (probably from the aforementioned muddy gulch) and uninviting. I had absolutely no desire to enter the water. Also, lots of thorns on the ground, so watch your step. With other nice beaches in the area (e.g., Make Horse Beach), I'd skip this one.

I was here thirteen years ago and found it lovely and peaceful. Went there today and found it muddy with red clay. The water was brown and unsafe to swim. Spoke to a conservationist who told me that recent deforestation has caused the beach water to be red since 2018. The runoff from farming is destroying this once lovely cove. It is sad to see how this serene beach is now an ecological mess.

Was disappointed all around in this beach. First off, huge thorns all over, so dangerous for all-no going barefoot.I had one that went almost completely though the sole of some pretty tough Columbia sandals. The water is red and murky and uninviting. I think there are other better places to enjoy the water.
