We sat quietly and watched for an hour and 45 minutes and at the last minute a family of elephants, complete with little babies, came to get a drink at the water hole. It was so exciting to see them interact with each other and we were very close to them. I enjoyed this very very much.

It must be a great experience watching elephants extremely close. Unfortunately there wheren`t any. Instead, we saw kudus pretty close, which was great as kudus normally tend to be quite shy. So we spent two hours and a half watching warthogs, a croc, guinea fowl ... . Would I still do it again? Yes, but only at the hight of the dry season when water is extremely scarce and the pool attracts more animals.

Spent a fascinating 3 or so hours with Charles in the hide.
He is extremely knowledgeable and charming.
In all my time in Africa I don't think I've ever been as close to elephants as we were that afternoon.
Well worth the money

A great place to watch wildlife at the waterhole, particulary birds - pied kingfisher hovering in front of the hide, yellow weavers at their nests, guinea fowl and Egyptian geese and many others from the Go-Away bird to the Long-tailed Paradise-Whydah. Impala, waterbuck and warthogs wandering about and crocs cruising. Our [armed] guide Clever was quietly informative; we were given a light breakfast. A quiet morning - but you never know what might happen [we saw elephants at the waterhole from the viewing gallery at the safari lodge another day]. Wear long sleeves and trousers and unscented mozzie-repellant.

This way of seeing wildlife has great potential. Unfortunately, the afternoon my friend and I were in the Hide, there was little activity at the waterhole. That's just how wildlife based activities go, you can't predict nature. I would recommend this activity because of the possibilities it offers.

So wonderful to be up close and personal with all the variety of animals visiting the water hole. A 10/10 experience with Charles, who is so knowledgeable and helpful.

As we stayed at the hotel we booked this in. 50 usd per person. We did the afternoon session from 4-6pm. It's an experience you have to try. You drive into an area in the watering hole where you then walk into a hut/shack with an open space where you sit & wait for any animals to come to the watering hole. You have to be very quiet at all times. The day before at that time I saw a family of elephants from our room at the watering hole which I was hoping we'd see on our hide but regrettably no elephants close up for us. We viewed greater kudu's, crocodiles, wart hogs, guinea fowl, vultures, marabou storks & different bird species. A very unique experience where you never know what your going to get/see.

We thought a couple of hours in a hide watching wildlife would be a nice complement to all the noise and drama of the Falls themselves, and booked ourselves an afternoon slot. Charles Brightman collected us from our hotel, collected another couple en route, and then took us into the bush in a jeep (though always in sight of the Victoria Falls Safari Lodge) - keeping an eye out as we went for a male elephant in musth which was known to be in the vicinity. The rifle, blankets and drinks cooler were all unpacked, and we walked with great care to the hide, where we settled ourselves very comfortably (and with great visibility). Charles explained what we might see and how best to enjoy our time there, and then provided helpful whispered commentary on the various creatures that appeared during the 2-ish hours we were there - which included herons, lapwings, crocodiles, baboons, doves, geese, elephants, kingfishers, impalas, hornbills, guinea fowls, and plovers. It was simultaneously restful and stimulating, and we very much enjoyed ourselves. Particularly the very close-up encounter with a curious elephant matriarch ('stay very still indeed'), and the elephant family who came to drink at the waterhole for a good long while. There were still elephants nearby when it was time to leave - this necessitated a very quiet and cautious departure, which all added to the experience. We left as the sun set, and were driven back to our hotel by Charles - with a bonus elephant sighting on the way.
