Great halls for hosting events.. maybe washrooms should be built outside so people wouldn’t have to walk all the way back in to the theatre to use the washroom.

We popped into the NT building as it's impressive architecture we assumed the interior would also be impressive. It's really a mothballed theatre space and wasn't really open. I suspect security staff are allowing opportune tours which you pay for but get very little information or guide. We went into the auditorium ascending the stairs, the ground floor doors where locked. There are some amazing sculptures outside and within the building but little explanation of them. The theatre space is very tired and generally dusty it felt uncared for. There where posters for recent shows but am not convinced it open often which is a shame. This building could be a gem if African theatre was performed here or African choirs, music and dance rather than western high arts. There's clearly a lack of investment in staff and maintenance from the government. Never the less I was glad we looked in.

We spent the highlights of our visit to Ghana at the National Theatre. We saw a school performance during the day. That evening they had free outdoor community theatre where we saw a delightful play. Then on Sunday we experienced the National Symphony Orchestra 60th anniversary---we couldn't get enough. STANDING OVATION!!!

I'm trying to book for a show and there is no answer to my repeated attempts at calling them on the phone and their web-site doesn't open.

We happened to chance upon a performance of Alkebulan's Awakening - a performance of dancing with dances from different parts of Africa.
The performance was a wonderful visual spectacle, showing the experience of pre colonial Africa, the coming of colonial powers, slave trade, slavery n the US, post slavery abuse of black people in the US and then an African awakening. The dancing was energetic, subtle and moving with a combination of African and western music. It was 8 months in preparation and a tremendous experience.
But we stumbled on it totally by accident. The hotel knew nothing about it (and the hotel is across the road). The performance deserved to be publicised so much better.
The actual theatre is well appointed with comfortable seats. It is a little shabby in places but considerably better than many other buildings in Accra.
It is a little disconcerting to buy tickets from a man who simply walks up to you on the theatre steps with no ID or anything else to demonstrate that he is actually selling genuine tickets. He was. But this should be somewhat more professional.
The management needs to think more about how to give these good performances the publicity and theatre environment they deserve.

외적인 아키텍처 자체는 근사하지만 시설관리나 유지가 형편없습니다. 주차장에서 내려서 빙빙 돌아 입구를 찾아 한참 헤맸네요.

We lived in Accra for a year and a half. We noticed the unique architecture of the National Theater soon after we arrived and anticipated that there would be some sort of events we would enjoy. We were wrong. We stopped in and spoke with the people who scheduled events. There was virtually nothing going on, ever. As Accra continues to grow more cosmopolitan I anticipate someone will put the Theater to good use but that had not happened as of the time we left in November, 2015.

Was at the Nationa Theatre, Accra, Ghana for the TED Accra 2015 event. I took an opportunity to go view the national Fontomfrom drum on display at the edifice. So breathtaking and full of history. the history of Ghana's musicology and folklore.
