The fine work of a hundred years old craftsmanship stands quite abandonded on the small square near the River of Life. Some years ago the Mayor of KL gave here a speech visualizing the upcoming ecological changes for this central area. They weren't quite realized and the neighborhood has further deteriorated.

Not particularly attractive, but if you are walking from Merdeka Square and Masid Jamek toward Central Market, it'a worth a visit. Central Market used to be here long time ago.

The Medan Pasar is what used to be the old market square until it was moved to the nearby central market. Nowadays, the square still preserves vestiges of the old market by the concentration of banks surrounding the square. The square is okay for historical reasons and the middle of the square has the Old Market Square Clock Tower landmark of the city. Otherwise there’s not much to see around the square and the shops aren’t all that interesting either. You’ll likely pass the square at some point because of its proximity to Chinatown, Merdeka Square, Masjid Jamek etc and all the attractions around it.

We passed through Medan Pasar on a Saturday afternoon, the area was very ordinary and uninteresting, the previous day we discovered a wodnerful street food market in the street behind, Jalan Benteng, a much better attraction.
What a very pleasant discovery to chance upon, the Jalan Benteng Food Street. We had just finished visiting the Kuala Lumpur City Gallery and Merdeka Square Park and in need of some lunch and a shady spot from the midday heat. The narrow street, mainly for pedestrians, was lined with stalls selling a fabulous range of street food and cold drinks. First we walked down the street taking note of the many different types of foods on offer before settling on satay sticks (RM 0.8 to 1.20 each), a mixed selection of samosas (5 for RM4), a cup of sliced fresh fruit (RM2) and fresh lime drinks, unfortunately overly sweet needing much water dilution. We found a space to sit in the shade overlooking the Klang River and Masjid Jamek Mosque. The market was incredibly busy with workers, that was a great sign for us. The market is located a short distance away from Masjid Jamek Train Station. We returned the following day, a Saturday, but there was no market, possibly this is just a weekday market but well worth discovering.

Я сюда поаал когда начался дождь, блиде к вечеру здесь собирается молодежь, помоему даже неформальная, а днем люди без опредленного места джительства спят на лавочках)) Вообще место напомнило московский арбат, пешеходная зона!

Areal terbuka berpenanda menara jam ini sepertinya adalah titik temu para pekerja migran di Malaysia. Kelompok mereka (sesuai asal masing-masing) banyak berkeliaran disini. Terdengar dari aneka logat dan bahasa yang bersliweran di telinga. Ditepiannya berjejer bangunan kuno yang kini ditempati berbagai toko yang didominasi melayani jasa/kebutuhan para pekerja migran tersebut. Terlihat dari aksara asing yang mendominasi.
Secara umum tempat ini tidak seberapa menarik. Apalagi arealnya tidak begitu besar.

Les bâtiments à deux étages, les rues pleines de commerces, un monde fou dans les rues, voilà l'exemple de ce que l'on retouve dans beaucoup de quartiers. Cette rue piétonne dans une de ses parties en est l'exemple.

A walk in this vicinity allows you to view some wonderful heritage buildings that clearly show a determination to be upkept. Signage on the nearby bridge that crosses the Klang River, provides considerable detail for many of the surrounding buildings.

It is a short pedestrian walk linking the 2 attractions. There is a clock at the center. Signage in chinese character is peeling off. There are stores, money changers, restaurants, etc at both sides of this attraction.
