If you’re looking to buy alpaca blankets or alpaca sweaters this is the place to go. This is authentic Ecuadorian sweaters and blankets. Everything is hand made and is excellent quality.

For those who love re tiles and admire the workmanship involved, this is the place to go in Otavalo. The demonstration on dye creation from insects, seeds and flowers; and how they color the wool from alpaca, then hand-spin it into yarn was incredible. Woven wall hangings and knitted sweaters and ponchos at good prices are great gifts to send home.

A treasure of a shop - don't miss it when visiting Otavalo!
jul. de 2018 • Familia
We visited this shop after having shopped at Otavalo - what a treat! The demonstration of traditional weaving and dying techniques was fantastic. The matriarch of the shop, Luzmila, spent over an hour with us, telling us about her family, the history of weaving in the town, and so much more. She is a warm and lovely person and the shop is chock full of beautiful items on sale. Don't miss this place! Ask a taxi to take you to Peguche and visit!!

Agree with all above - this is a wonderful place!

As many others have said, this is a great place to visit and buy. The demonstration was fascinating (if one is actually a weaver one might want more information, but for ordinary tourists like me it is terrific - especially the dyeing demonstration) and the shop is full of absolutely beautiful things of many different types and different price ranges. (I wish I had bought more.) There is also no pressure to buy, and one can browse and think about things. This was quite a contrast from the Otavalo market where the vendors are non-stop pressure and I couldn't spend any time browsing and deciding. This workshop, on the other hand, gives no pressure at all; as a result I was able to choose what I wanted and love what I bought. Definitely a must for anyone interested in Ecuadoran textiles/weaving etc.

Beautiful weaving and shop
may. de 2018 • Parejas
There is a live demonstration of the process of making yarn, dying it and weaving beautifully handcrafted items given by a mature woman who learned from her grandmother. You are allowed to take photos during the demo. The shop has lots of items for sale. These are high quality items and not some of the cheaper ones you find at other tourist locations so the prices may be a bit higher but I think they are worth it. Demo only takes about 15 minutes.

Better quality than Otovalo Market
feb. de 2017 • Parejas
We were taken here by our guide, Nancy after walking around the sensory overload of the Saturday market in Otovalo. She advised us that the quality of items in the market was mediocre and great for souvenirs, but if we wanted something of high quality this was the place to go...and it didn't disappoint!

The shop had everything you could want made in different materials and and mid to very high quality levels. The prices were quite higher than at the market, but still very good for the much higher quality of the items.

The best part was the demonstration of how these items were made. How they get the different colors of dye was very interesting...from one tiny bug pulled from a cactus, they were able to get red, orange, and purple colors just by squishing it (red) and adding lemon juice (orange) and baking soda (purple).

Highly recommend a visit if you want nice alpaca/llama/sheep wool items that will last!!!

A note about our guide:
We've never done the guide thing before, but our AirBnB was so cheap in Quito we gave it a try. We contacted Angel Rea (angelrea@yahoo.com) who is the lead of a group of 5 licensed guides. Nancy was our guide to Otovalo and she was wonderful ($125 for the Otovalo trip to include the market, this place, and Peguche waterfall). Very helpful and informative. If you decide to hire a guide, we would HIGHLY recommend contacting Angel!

Enjoyed watching the lady demonstrating spinning and weaving despite the fact I've seen it dozens of times. The shop area had some fascinating gifts, robes, scarves and stuff

Demonstration of carding wool, dying wool, weaving, etc along with gorgeous handicrafts for sale
jun. de 2016 • Familia
We went to El Gran Condor in Peguche before venturing to the Otavalo Market, expecting a higher quality. We were right! We observed a detailed demonstration of how wool is carded, dyed, spun into fibers and then woven on a backstrap loom. There are goods at all levels, including scarves and blankets made of acrylic, cotton, and alpaca. We saw ponchos in a pricey boutique in Quito for twice what we paid at El Gran Condor. Highly recommended.
