Floating Market on the Mekong. Not what I was expecting

Our group was picked up by bus by Ms. San’s Tours around 6am and headed to the pier which was maybe 3-5min drive away from our hotel. Then arrived at our boat for a 2 hour tour. The floating market is not what I was expecting. I was thinking it was going to be like Bangkok. It sure was not. You are not in a narrow canal but in the middle of a bay. It had a rural local feeling market. We seemed to be the only tourist boat out there.
We stopped at many boats. Got coffee’s for everyone (hot or iced) and pho. You have to try the Vietnamese (iced) Coffee. It was incredible. San made sure we got to see first hand how they worked out of their boats. They have a hook that they hooked onto our boat and make you whatever you are wanting to order or look at. The much large boats where selling local fruits and vegetables to smaller boats, some personal use and some fur businesses. Everything was so fresh! Lots of tossing around. Locals all seemed very friendly. If they were not right in the middle of something they would wave or give you a huge friendly Smile.

When I returned to the hotel and my spouse saw pictures he was jealous he didn’t come with us and that he missed out on this opportunity. So don’t you do the same.

As soon as you get into the market, your boat is swarmed by sellers selling fruits, drinks or cooked meals to you. They hook their boat onto yours and they get dragged along as your boat moves along. It was amazing experience. It is a wholesale market on boats with families having breakfast on top of their boats while others sell.

Alternative to cai rang floating market

I have been to both floating market Cai Rang and Chau Doc. I would say Chau Doc floating market is more rural. The one in Cai Rang Can Tho is too touristy which is good for foreigners but the thing is you dont get to experience the vietnam culture. This one is different more traditional and less pricy

ตลาดน้ำประจำเมือง Chau Doc ชุมชนยั่งยืนที่ชาวบ้านอาศัยอยู่ริมแม่น้ำ Bassic ซึ่งอยู่ติดกับชุมชนมุสลิมการเดินทางสามารถล่องเรือชาวบ้านไปเที่ยวชมตลาดน้ำ จากสวนสาธารณะใจกลางเมือง ตลาดน้ำแห่งนี้บรรยากาศจากคึกคักที่สุดในช่วงเช้าถึงสายๆ

Big boats with poles displaying their wares selling to smaller boats that go back to the village with their load of veggies to sell. People and boats and cabbages, sweet potatoes and so much more.

Tolles Erlebnis, am besten reist man ganz früh an, nimmt den Sonnenaufgang auf dem Mekong noch mit und schippert dann zum floating market. Dort findet man eine Ansammlung altertümlich wirkender Boote vor, die alles mögliche verkaufen (was angeboten wird, hängt an einer langen Stange am Bug des Bootes), zwischendrin wuselt ein kleines Böötchen und bietet eine leckere Pho an, alles zusammen ein riesen Erlebnis.
Kann man auch gut mit einem Besuch der Ufer-Pfahldörfer verbinden.

Ein wirklich einmaliger Platz!

Nach dem Frühstück auf der Hotelterrasse direkt am Fluss miete ich ein Boot und lasse mich zu einem der vielen Hausboote fahren. Wir legen an und ich betrete den Wohnraum. In der Mitte befindet sich eine Klappe und direkt darunter ein Netz voll mit Pangasius Flussbarschen. Sie werden durch die Klappe gefüttert und bei Bedarf mit einem Kescher abgefischt. ein Bootsführer fährt an einer schwimmenden Tankstelle vorbei in den Bassac-River hinein. Den „Kenh-Vinh-Te-Kanal“ überqueren Zigarettenschmuggler in einem Kahn. Ein weinig landeinwärts befindet sich die kambodschanische Grenze. An beiden Ufern reihen sich Häuser auf hohen Stelzen. Manche sind mit einen herabsenkbaren Fischernetz ausgestattet. Chau Doc ist ein wirklich einmaliger Platz! Auf meiner Reisewebsite toeightycountries.com finden Sie mehr über Chau Doc.
