Very disappointed that Backsberg has moved from the original estate and is just not the same anymore and will never be. We always made an effort when we visted the Cape to go to Backsberg wine estate as we loved the platters, wine and the great outdoor feeling of the gardens. It really had an relaxing feeling and was different to your other tight feeling estate. The new establishment has nothing special just a tight corporate urban atmosphere, nothing that I will make an effort to go back to again. I don't even think I will continue to buy Backsberg wines as I believe the grapes are not even coming from the original estate anymore. Really disappointing that this beautiful estate has come to an end!!

Early lunch on a Wednesday was quiet and peaceful. A wonderful setting with pleasant people. Ordered the charcuterie platter for 2 and a bottle of Sav Blanc. What excellent value for money. Will be back, often.

I usually take the Wine Tram tour locally but this time has booked a coach tour from Cape Town with City Sightseeing to check this option out as well.
The downside of that tour is, that you are allocated a route and cannot choose in which order to take it, but it turned out to be a good option nonetheless because I got to Backsberg around lunchtime, which meant that the wine and cheese tasting would be a nice way of substituting lunch. The young lady who served me was very pleasant and knowledgeable and took the time to have a conversation with me, which made the experience all the more pleasant. I had a fantastic time, sampling the delicious cheeses and wines.
Backsberg has been operating since 1916 and is certified carbon neutral which, in today's environmentally aware times, is a real plus. A walk around the estate is highly recommended, the gardens are lovely and provide nice photo opportunities.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and have ordered Backsberg wines since to savour at home and will certainly be back.

ケープタウンからのワイナリー訪問ツアーで訪れました。雰囲気のあるワインセラーを見学した後に試飲を楽しみました。チョコレートとのペアリングで数種類のワインをいただきました。どのワインも美味しかったです。

Sehr erlesene Weine und ein toller Brandy, Backsberg ist ein noch nicht so vermarktetes Weingut wie sein Bekannter Nachbar, hier herrscht Chaos...

We visited Backberg as the last wine farm in our tour - we were Tram tour.
The 4 farms visited before may have raised the standard too high because the service we received at Backsberg was really shocking. Sadly, we had stationed there to have late lunch and enjoy the afternoon.
The service was bad - upon complaining the lady who was serving us, Lelo is her name was just plain rude and really uninterested. Lelo told one of my friends that she was just tired to serve us, I don't know if she would have told this to out of SA guest or she felt she could say this to us cause we look like her.
I felt it was a teacheable moment for her and I called and spoke to her telling her this is not how to treat guest, hands on hips and I was also met with rolling eyes and a very cheaky young lady - I honeslty felt sorry for her and her future working life.
There was another younger lady - I didn't get her name who was also huffing and puffing when we asked to be served.
I had to get up and go to inside to get another bottle of MCC and a glass of wine.
It did appear they were short staffed and were spinning but this could have been communicated to us.
Thank you to Schaune (sp) who saved the day and apologised on their behalf and was really sorry.
I will not go back to Backsberg. It does leave me to ask though about staff morale and what is happening behind the scenes for the staff to be this rude.

It is the 3rd time that I go to Backsberg for their summer concerts.
Bottomless was very good, as always...
The pre-artist was very excellent as well. i'll follow her.
My only comment I would make is regarding the time of the show indicated on the ticket (3pm), while the show really started at 4pm...
We rushed to be there on time and at the end, we had to wait for an hour...

Questa è molto bella come edificio e giardino ed è particolarmente attrezzata per wine tasting.

Had a great wine tasting and a very tasty cheese platter. Lovely gardens and a place for the kids to play. We have been to a couple of birthday functions there which we can highly recommend with their Sunday buffet which has so much to choose from!

Backsberg is one of two vineyards near Paarl which offers kosher wine tasting. It has better opening hours than Zjandwik and we went on 30 December. It was bustling with tourists coming for tastings.
The wines came two by two. We had all five kosher wines, although the last was a kiddush wine disguised as a dessert grape. The staff were friendly, and we came away with a case of chardonnay. There were also gardens to explore afterwards.
Overall all kosher wines are good wines and we were grateful to backsberg for a lovely afternoon

As our picnic baskets are only for two guest we only provide two of each item on the picnic basket. It all depends on yourself if you would only like to order one basket to share.
We however do advise to order two baskets to comfortably serve the 3 guests as requested.
