Really neat to walk around, lots of history. Some are so old, with just wooden crosses. The kids enjoyed reading all of the stones and the view of the river down below was amazing.

Very interesting old cemetery not far off the main road. Some of the headstones date back to the 1850's, surprisingly, many are still in very good shape, as is the cemetery itself. There is also a good view of the Kern River from here.

The is such a great Cemetery to walk thru. The dates on the headstones remind you of a time when Wofford Heights and Kernville were settled by people after the Gold in the mines around the valley. The locals have kept the Cemetery clean and free of weeds. Worth a stop if you are in the neighborhood.

I saw a sign pointing to this cemetery as a site of historic interest, so I checked it out. I enjoy cemeteries and this one was really cool. There are many old grave sites. I spent at least an hour looking at every one and taking many photographs.
I don't know much about the history of the area, but it was still quite interesting.
As mentioned by a previous reviewer, there is a great view of the Kern River at the far end of the cemetery. There is a bench under a tree at that end of the property, so one can sit there in the shade and listen to the sound of the river rushing by while contemplating mortality.
This cemetery is a must-see for Old West and California history buffs.
Tip: Wear a hat. While there is some shade here, it's not much, and the sun and elevation can wear you out quick. Drinking water is a good idea too.

This cemetery is a step back in time. You will see many plots covered with broken glass, that's not because of vandals its because the glass turns color in the sun. One has lots of purple glass, some have multicolored, but the best part is to see history. The men who served our country and were laid to rest with honors showing their love of country and with pride their families adorned their headstones with their service awards and dates of service. I feel patriotic and humbled whenever I visit, and a total sense of peace. The river running by can be viewed by sitting in a bench facing the river as you contemplate the changing of the seasons or just for some peace and quiet.

Being a History Buff, I know the stories behind many of the pioneers buried here, and love telling the stories to visitors. No, I don't work for the cemetery, but my wife and I do belong to six Historical Societies. Before visiting the cemetery, I'd suggest reading some of the nine Bob Powers books about this area (you can get them in local libraries, or buy copies at the Kernville Museum) --- and oh, by the way, Bob Powers is also buried here!

This is a historic cemetery back that was in operation back when the California Gold Rush was happening. The entire cemetery has a creepy vibe to it. If you want a thrill or just want to see something interesting, be sure to check it out.
