There was so much to see and read about, that it enhanced our understanding of the culture of days gone by.

Although we'd been visiting Grand Lake for years, this was our first visit to the museum. The volunteer on duty told us many interesting facts about Grand Lake and the museum. Definitely worth a visit.

I always try to find the history in the places we stay and I was not disappointed with this museum. I highly recommend this walk back in history.

This museum was originally built in 1892 and operated as a hotel until 1946. It is the only remaining log hotel built in Grand Lake prior to the 1900s. It had a lot to see and the man who was working even gave us a personalized guided tour, which was the coolest. He told us lots of stories about the history of the area, and some of the things they had on display were so interesting. I loved the kitchen.

the original 'vacation tourist town' early hotel. Truly interesting, and a lesson in history not just of the town, but of the building style and the development of thing/ingenuity by design. There is more in this 'house' hotel than we imagined.

Great place to visit if you want to know about Grand Lake's history. At the moment we were there, there were no other visitors, so my husband and I got a private tour. The museum is a former hotel, the oldest one in town, and houses a collection of original furniture, kitchen ware, dolls and more. In the early 1900's, it was an upscale place to stay. We were able to see the whole house: parlor, kitchen, bedrooms and the dining room with beautiful cast iron furnace. Side fact: the actual geraniums in the museum are cuttings of the original ones, so they are more than 100 years old!
Special thanks to docent Gary who enriched our visit with witty stories about the hotel. He's a treasure when it comes to local history. We were enchanted. Don't miss him!
