It's been 20 years since Mayor Daley destroyed Meigs field and they still haven't completed Northerly Island Park. Still chunks of broken up concrete everywhere. And hardly anybody uses this park. What a pointless and wasteful use of government power. Shame.

We went with family and unfortunately, we were separated because tifket mastwrndid not allow us to bjy ebough tickets during presale, that's another story. So we were within rows of each other. Every time qe tried to go near neach other and apeak we had a blonde amgry woman staring at us and following us. At one point she told me i couldn't stand nearnmy familie's seat as I said yes i could we payed for it. She then gave us dirty looks. The seats themselves are pretty basi hard folding chairs. There is no eleavtion so the views are not good. Most seata arent good. We were in 5th row and even our seats were just so so. There arenmany better venues with nicer security that won't stalk you.

We LOVED 12th street beach! Minimal crowds despite the airshow. Originally went to a beach further north but left immediately due to crowds and no swimming. Water was clean here, sand was soft. There are bathrooms available. The beach itself is small but cozy. DO NOT eat at the taco place. Charged us $10 each for 2 slices of quesadilla that didn't come with anything it said on the menu. The kid working the register didn't even know what they sold. I had to point out things to him on the menu and his response to almost everything was "uhh...we don't have that, I think". Other than that, great place. Parking is $25 flat rate for a full day.

Northerly Island is a 91-acre, man-made peninsula along Chicago's Lake Michigan lakefront. The site of Adler Planetarium, east of Soldier Field, Shedd Aquarium and Field Museum, it connects to the mainland through a narrow isthmus along Solidarity Drive, which is dominated by Neoclassical sculptures of Tadeusz Kosciuszko, Karel Havlicek Borovsky and Copernicus. With the demolition of Meigs Field, the busiest single runway airport in the United States that was in operation from 1948 to 2003, Northerly Island became a part of the Museum Campus and has been converted into parkland. In fact, Northerly Island is the only lakefront property to be built based on architect Daniel Burnham's 1909 Plan of Chicago. It forms the southern end of Monroe Harbor and the eastern boundary ofd Burnham Harbor. In 2015, a 40-acre park opened on the southern part of the island featuring a concrete trail for walking and bicycle riding, a lagoon and landscaped wildlife habitats for migratory birds and natural wildlife, including monarch butterflies and herons. To make the park as inviting to these animals as possible, over 11,000 shrubs and 400 trees were planted.

I live in Chicago and attended my first concert here last night. The venue and concert were great (Beck). It also helped that the weather was perfect. Thankfully, my ticket was given to me free, or I would have had to take a second job. $165 for the ticket; $15 for a can of Miller lite; $17 if you wanted a beer other than Miller or Bud Lite. $7 for a bottle of water. It is a bit of a pain to get to and from. We took the red line to Roosevelt and walked over. Nice walk but at least 20 minutes. My friend insisted on taking a pedicab back to the Roosevelt L stop which I refused to chip in on. I'd rather walk. But she said her treat. Whatever. It was $25 per person just to get back to the red line. $50 and he rode like a maniac running red lights weaving through traffic. Great venue, but I'm too old and cranky to pay these prices. HA!

Whether visiting the museum campus or the Hamilton exhibition. Park in the Adler Planetarium lot by 9:30am for the all-day early bird rate...$11.
It's hard to believe the "wilderness" area you are walking was an airport just a few years ago. The welcome center was the airport terminal. In fact , the entire peninsula is man-made. Tons of wildflowers, birds and a pond for fishing. Also an amphitheater and ( temporarily) the Hamilton exhibition.

Many know that the area used to be an airport and is now a park with a concert venue. But did you know that you can hike and bike and, oh my, camp!!! I just did a training at the park. It was beautiful to face the lake and feel as if you were transported to a remote area; then turn around and watch the sunset behind the skyline....serene.

A little hard to get to... most likely have to walk a mile and half from Michigan Avenue if you're seeing a concert, but totally worth it!

Northerly Island is a 91-acre, man-made peninsula along Chicago's Lake Michigan lakefront. It is the site of the Adler Planetarium and once was the site of Meigs Field Airport, which was demolished in 2003. It connects to the mainland through a narrow isthmus along Solidarity Drive that is dominated by Neoclassical sculptures of Kosciuszko, Havlicek and Copernicus. It is part of the Museum Campus and has been converted into parkland which was the original intention of architect Daniel Burnham's Plan of Chicago. Interestingly, Burnham died in 1912 and his plan never reached fruition. Instead, Northerly Island was the only lakefront structure to be built based on Burnham's plan that called for the creation of a five-island chain between Jackson Park and 12th Street. Northerly Island, which includes an outdoor concert venue, a 40-acre park, a concrete trail for walking and bicycle riding, a five-acre lagoon and a landscaped wildlife habitat, forms the southern end of Monroe Harbor and the eastern boundary of Burnham Harbor. The park is home to many of Illinois' natural wildlife, including migratory birds, monarch butterflies and herons, and has over 11,000 shrubs and 400 trees. To protect inhabitants of the natural preserve, dogs are not allowed in the park. The park offers a panoramic view of Lake Michigan, Navy Pier and Chicago's Skyline.
