We will try to put a positive spin on this review. For the most part the site is the Grist Mill museum and of course the canal that runs through Metamora. The canal is unique to observe. The town is pretty much built up around it. To this day the Canal is what makes Metamora special and still alive and (somewhat) thriving.
The grist mill museum is run by the state. It might be a good demonstration to see the mill at work. Check for times that it is being operated. We were there when they were not running the mill. The admission fee was the same whether running or not. $5 for adults and $3 for kids. We questioned the value of the entry fee for the grist mill as we were done in less than 10 minutes. We just deemed it as a donation to the historical site.
We enjoyed our afternoon visit to Metamora. We were disappointed that the horse drawn canal boat had fallen into disrepair over the winter. They have plans to acquire a new canal boat in the future utilizing state funded grants.
This is a unique site and town full of historic value. Give it a try but you have to dig out the value as there is little at this time to demostrate its value. There how did we do on the positive spin?

I used to love going to Metamora, but the last time I visited it wasn't the same. Most of the stores were closed and the ones that were open had similar wares for sale. The canal boat wasn't running and the horses weren't there.
If you enjoy wandering in and out of little shops, you might have a good time. It's also a great place for photos.
I am hoping that more stores open up and it becomes a bustling little town again.

This quaint town was so much fun to walk through. I loved looking at the old buildings and seeing the history. The town is small, but they know how to celebrate! All the town folk are so very friendly!

We are walkers and readers so we had a good time. There is a canal boat. Loved petting the horses. The trail along the canal was nice.

Our family really enjoyed our visit to Metamora including the boatride on the canal. We went during the week, so we nearly had the town to ourselves. We love history and always have lots of questions. The guides were very informative. We stopped down the road and took a close look at the restored locks.

Metamora has what is probably the only active aquaduct in the world with historic canal boat rides, a grist mill and historic train rides. Live the bed and breakfasts in the charming town. State of indiana needs to recognize this beautiful part of its canal and train transportation more because metamora is a great place to visit!

We enjoyed the boat ride pulled bu draft horses on the canal. Our narrator was well versed & provided a great history of the canal.

The second Friday in December was the Holiday opening of not only the Historic site but the village of Metamora as well. Shops selling Christmas goods, restaurants and the historic Grist Mill Museum were ready for customers, however few people were there. The canal boat rides were closed, as there is construction work ongoing scheduled to be complete sometime in 2018. Check before you go to see if the canal is open.

We saw the sign for this historic site and decided to swing in off the main road. Saw a place charging $3 to park, continued on through this tiny, cute hamlet, yet did not find a place to park our small RV. The few places we could have fit were marked no parking.
So, we drove on...it looked like a nice town and an interesting site to visit, but we will never find out...
